How well do you think Cata will sell? :)

As title says:
Do you think it will beat out BC and Wotlk opening day sales, or do worst?
-I think it would do about the same as Wotlk.
Do you think subscription numbers will have a noticeable change, either up or down, or stay about the same?
-I think it would stay the same.
Other thoughts on the subject?

I know for a fact most of my friends that quit wow, are coming back for cataclysm. So I'm pretty sure the subs will rise again, it will do pretty well because it will have the older users who quit during WOTLK coming back, plus the current subscribers, plus maybe a good portion of people who might have quit further back than WOTLK, who want to come and try it again.
I think it will sell great!!!

The subs will SKYROCKET!!! Look at all the shitty games that came out, people need somewhere to go, so better a established game like wow.
I predict wow will have 15million by the end of December.

There are more subscribers now then there was at the launch of Wotlk
A higher percentage of players are at lvl cap now.
WOTLK sold 2.8M copies on the first day. I think 3M is about right for this one.
Opening day sales hmmm not so sure it will out do the previous xpacs myself . To me it seams offer limited content on top of the revamp . I'm back in the game but I'm not rushing out to buy it . Rather leveling one of the old races with a class I've not yet played . I'm now at level 36 the content I've experianced is very similar to what I've seen before . New mobs , new features but ultimatly not really an expansion more of a mega patch . I'm hanging fire because I'm not convinced yet . I've joked with friends who have been calling the Cata WoW 2 that it feels more like WoW 1.3 to me . Unless theres hidden content that I'm not aware of I think if a lot of people by it thinking it'll offer a return to Vanilla or something fundamentally different they'll be very disapointed . A lot rides of Cata . I think box sales may be down on previous xpacs for day one . But depends if they include download sales . Gonna log back in now and see if I can spot my first worgan and /howl at him .

Wow (no pun intended) Blizz probably sold more then 5xs that, imagine the electronic and gaming stores right now...I was going to go get my sister a Nintendo DSi mario 25th anniversary edition today or tomarrow because it will have a sale, but now I'm thinking....avoid anywhere that sells wow for the next 3 days.

It would made Blizzard shitboat load more money for sure. 11 million subscriber x $40 bucks = 440 million bucks!
It will sell more than previous two expansions...no brainer there.

I'd be very surprised if it didn't set new records again. As for population... can it get much bigger? I'm sure there will be a spike in population during the first month or two, but I don't think it will continue that way.
Ok just thought I would have a look at the number of high -full-locked servers in the EU . Theres 25 thus far which compares to 40 + at around this time of the Liche King after release and I don't think there was a download opion back then ? . So even with that opion and 3 + hours in its not the same . Also suprisingly theres 18 low server populations .Around Liche king I think there were less that 5 if I recall . Most were high . Hard to tell at this time of night here but it was more in the early hours of the last Xpac . It'll be interesting to see what it'll be at peak . Hows it doing in NA and elsewhere ?
I assumed this was troll bait when i read it, but it seems to be rational answers thus far. Doesnt require too much guessing to say subs will increase and it will outsell the prior expansions. I only played the game for a little over a month myself, but its like asking if the next Harry potter or Lord of the rings movie will have a bigger opening than the last....its kinda a given.
I think it's going to sell just fine.
But after about 2 months of playing we're going to watch those subs plummet.
It hasn't happened for 6 years so I don't think this is going to be accurate.

Once the content is eaten up people bail. It's happened every expansion.

Is that why the 12million sub announcement came 3 months before Cata (Aka end of Wrath Exp)?

Well., I can confirm one thing. For the first time in over 4 years, I spent the money and upgraded from vanilla to Cata and am back in the WOW world, so there's an increase by one.
Can't believe I'm here, but should be fun for a bit.

Disgustingly well. Probably a vast majority will automatically buy it and perhaps many will not even stay subbed for very long but the number of sales this expansion makes will probably strip the other expansions.

Situation EU servers on 03:45 PM Friday: 103 servers on full or locked (all languages combined). For the ENglish ones, it's 52 atm.
Never seen this before. And the weekend isn't even started yet.
I would avoid to level in the +80 regions after 05.00 PM.
As for the above poster who says that this happens with all new MMO's. Not in these numbers dude. Not even with previous expansions. It had to happen, we all knew it.
All I know is this, where I work we had a large number of WotLK when it launched and they sold out fast. Cataclysm we had a large number of and... well 2 copies have sold so far lol. Nice big display of them and it's still full XD.
But it will probably sell well overall. Who knows. I think most people are interested more in various beta's atm rather than any games currently out.
I am sure it will do well. I can for sure say that it won't be getting 4 copies outta my family and friends.

Except if you pre-ordered you got the game fully installed and ready to go the minute it went on sale at a retail store.
I think that was a brilliant business move, cut out the retail profits.

I'm sure it will sell well, but strangely after three days there hasn't been an announcement about sales figures, or something along the lines of it smashing records as you might expect. Also some retailers have lowered the price over here. (Amazon.co.uk by about £2.00 and Dixons/Curry were selling for £22.96). Significant? Maybe not.
The real test will be 3-6 months time in terms of subs numbers.
