I gave up on WoW shortly after BC, but the changes, especially to group play have me interested. I do not have WotLK (which I know cata requires). My question is, what content from cata is available to everyone, and what is specific to people that bought the box? My highest toon is only level 35ish, and on PvP. I'd want to reroll on a PvE rp server anyway, so I won't be hitting high level content for quite awhile.
Since I wouldn't be getting to high-level content for awhile, what would I miss if I didn't buy Cata right away?
Thanks,
-Xerek

Races and Professions for sure, not to mention the higher level areas. Just looking at immediate though ...
Since you wouldn't have WOTLK or Cata, you wouldn't be able to play the Worgen or Goblin Classes, nor would you be able to use the archeology secondary profession, or the inscription primary profession.
I'm not too sure if you can use glyphs without the expansion, or if it just stops you from taking up the profession though.
Best Beta Tester EVER!
Its not free.
People seem to forget about a monthly fee.

without any real effort you could reach max level in a week. playing maybe 3-5 hours a day. and end up in all purps too. thats how lame this game is.
Kick to the Face.
My guess of things NOT FREE:
New races in the character creation screen and their starting location.
Zones from 80 to 85.
New professions (Archeology...)
What is FREE:
All the zones from 1 to 80 except Guilneas, Kezan and Lost Isles.
Class changes
Class-Race combos
Question makes no sense at all. It's a paid expansion for a game with a monthly fee.
This, plus you wouldn't be able to play a death knight.
There are tons of new flight paths, those that fly over the new zones might not work for you, they didn't in the pre-cata patch so I'm thinking they may not for someone who doesn't have the cata expansion.
You couldn't play in Northrend, the wotlk zone.
I agree you might not be able to use glyphs, which come from the inscription profession which came with wotlk.
It makes sense, above posters have already proven you wrong. Some people need to read 2-3 times before getting it. My guess is you skimmed over it once and wanted to troll bad enough to not care what was really being said.
You wouldn't be missing much, since you are just leveling, all the level 1-60 changes are available to everyone, not just cata buyers.
Stuff you can't do without Cata:
1. Archaeology
2. Level in 80-85 zones.
3. Do 80-85 Dungeons and Raids.
4. Fly in Azeroth.
5. Play a Worgen or Goblin.
The only thing you truly would miss out on is Archaeology and playing a Worgen or Goblin, as all the other stuff wouldn't be available to a low level character any way.
Stuff you can't do for level 1-60 content without Wotlk:
1. Inscription Profession.
2. Make a Deathknight.

Yes, but there are some very casual players out there who only purchase an expansion pack when they need it. And there are those getting a second account but not willing to add every expansion packs to it. You can play WoW without any expansion pack TBH, which gives you:
All the zones from 1-60 excluding the starting zones for Goblin, Worgen, Blood Elf, Dranei.
All the dungeons within those zones.
Prior to Cataclysm, it also gave access to the lvl 60 raids.
All the professions except Jewelcrafting, Inscription, and Archaeology.
I would dissagree with the above poster. The question is pretty clear. it seems you are trying to figure out if you can/should just resub and play in the revised WoW vanilla areas, or if you need to purchase cata and all the xpacs right now so that you can play.
I cant give this information, as I do not play the game any longer it would seem to me though that you can just resub and log in to see if you like the new leveling experience. Since its aparently changed for all new characters not just the new races you should be fine I would guess.
Thanks again,

Thanks for asking this question. I've never played WoW past the trial, but I'm thinking about giving it another shot. I can't play hardcore anymore (no more Eve), and I'm sick of LoTRO, so this game sounds perfect now.
My plan is to purchase the bundle for 20 bucks on amazon, and give it a shot. I'll get cata later.
Sound like a good plan?
You can still use glyphs but can't make them yourself.
