I made my first "How to get PvP ready in 1-2months" on 12-16-2009. A lot has changed since then, such as what being effective means, what things level what, etc. I'm redoing this because of all the changes and all the bull shit on the forums.
Now, unlike the first time I did the guide, I'm going to go more in depth. The reason I didn't go in depth the first time is because I felt that people should discover the game for themselves. Now, I think most people can't be bothered doing it. I'm also not going to tell you a time frame, because its to dependent on your in game activity, luck, and skill level.
The guide is split into three parts.

thanks man. i played a lot in 2009 and even have my own guides for clan and everyone on a wiki. but your guide is even helping me. i plan to link it in my clan to help out new players. thanks again
Thanks for taking the time to put a guide together. The game gets short changed by a lot of ignorance.
Make a difference!
Really excellent guide! This is going to help me immensely. Thanks!
Nice! Hope you can keep it up to date

Yikes! They are pretty harsh over there at ForumFall.

I'm going to flat-out say not to follow the advice in this guide in the manner they are portayed.
for my own reasons i've run a new character without any funds up since just before hellfreeze. i dont have much time to play it, so it's still pretty low, but i can tell flat out..
this guide is absolutly NOT a good way to do things.

Oh well, you tried anyway xpiher.
Kinda ironic that you've gotten more support here at mmorpg.com than on DarkFall's own forum.
The guide is more or less correct. I have to love peole who say "I ddoesn't work" then don't give specifics.
I just don't agree with the statemtn about using r20 wepaons. I tell my newbs to use what works. I guive them as many r40s as they are willing to use. this makes farming for gold so much easier.
I said as long as it doesn't get locked because of being inactive, not due to flames. The comment you posted was before I changed the guide a little bit.
Its an efficiency guide. Using r40s it not what a newbie should be doing to get the most gain he can at lower levels.

xphire is more or less officially shunned by the darkfall community for his constant onslaught of bullcrap. you're well advised to take his "newbie"-guide with a grain of salt, but then again 90% of you that will burn out from the massive grind before completing his "guide" so it's probably a non-issue for most.
LOL. This is very true. I think he is posting on MMORPG because he gets shat on by so many people in Forumfall.
From a noobies perspective, the most important thing to realise about Darkfall is that if you do not have at least 4 hours to play per night, do not know how to macro, or hate grinding, then Darkfall is not for you.
I rarely have the time to play for 4 hours in a day and refuse to macro in any game. I have been happily playing Darkfall since October of '09. But thanks for letting me know that the game aint for me.
Keep up the fine work boys.
"Mr. Rothstein, your people never will understand... the way it works out here. You're all just our guests. But you act like you're at home. Let me tell you something, partner. You ain't home. But that's where we're gonna send you if it harelips the governor." - Pat Webb
My comment was directed at new players to the game. Hence the phrase "From a noobie's perspective". Learn2read, LOL. Veteran players already have maxed out characters.
I can read just fine, son. It was way more difficult for noobs when I started playing, you should know this. If you do not, it's been awhile since you last played, huh.

hokay........ what's that got to do with my comment that new players of Darkfall in 2010 have a massive grind ahead of them?
Point is, you do not have to play 4 hours a night and macro your way up to enjoy Darkfall. I know, because I never played that way. That's it, where's the confusion, lol.

New players in any mmo have a massive grind ahead of them, unfortunately that's part and parcel of this sadly uninspiring genre of games.
As far as the OP being shunned on the DF forums, that's actually something to be proud of seeing as how it's easily the most narcissistic collection of self-important e-douches on the internet.
Awesome game though, love it.
There's a reason many of us don't post on the official forums. It's a fucking a cesspool, plain and simple.
Xpiher is a real trooper for hanging in there though, to be frank.

Look another person that doesn't know what hes talking about. I posted the guide on here because SOME NEW PLAYERS use these forum to find out about the game.

I would love to agree with you on this, however in the case of xphire they're actually right.
So he's here posting a newbie guide to entice and help new players. You're all posting for no reason other than to slate the guy.... mmmm... let me see who does one listen to?

For all those who disagree with the guide would love to hear what they think is so wrong with it. If there is better info out there I would like to know.
As far as new players have to macro goes, I think the day I start macroing is the day I cancel my sub. I think that darkfall was never designed for players to max everything. If you do max everything you got nothing left to do but go gank people who are at a lesser skill level. I would rather enjoy my 2-3 hours a night and earn it honest than waste my time thinking of how to min/max my character when I am unable to play. Will I ever beat hardcore macroers in PvP? Probably not, but if being the best is that important to them then that is ok with me. One day I won't lose all my fights and that is good enough for me.
Instead of "newbie to vet" maybe rename it "newbie to newbie ganker", because I don't think you'll be killing many vets after it. Still a good guide to getting started in this noobie's opinion. Keep up the good work Xpiher and to anyone who wants to bash on the good please write me a better guide.
Good guide but I dont think I have the patience to do all the title quests. I did the STR and WIS one and that was boring as hell.
Also, it is a shame that everyone has to be a mage in this game. Adventurine really screwed up on that one, imo.

And I, as a DF newbie, thank you for it. Funny that the people criticising you dont have any better ideas to give as suggestions. They basically just say your guide sucks without giving any valid reasons as to why or offer any additional hints for new players.
Fact is, I have been playing the game, semi-casually, for 3 weeks and I got only 10k in the bank and my stats are only 25-30 and I havent yet qualified for any mastery skills. So this game seems to be a huge grind. Nothing wrong with that, but it should be something that new players should be aware of.
My gaming blog
Even playing casually 25-h0 is very low for 2 weeks.
Did you join NEW? Do you have a clan you are playing with?
A support group when starting out is very important. Servicable gear at low levels is important (this is an investment from your clan). Also grouping should help you progress much faster. I can generally get someone from 1-50 in 1-2 hours (depending on spawn). Once you get 75 melee skill the game opens up and becomes much easier and faster to progress. I have new trial players who have maybe 3-4 days playtime who have 40ish WC, 30 SC, and 50 melee skill. Much is about being efficinet and having a support network.
If you need help feel free to PM your in game name and I will see if I can help you. I won't be around until after christmas though.
