Over 50 awards already?

whilanwhilan Member UncommonPosts: 3,472

Looking across the pages somehow ToR manage to rack up almost 60 awards before the games release.  Kinda surprising as the game isn't released yet

http://www.swtor.com/awards

Some of them are kinda weird like the smelliest t-shirt award but most of them are normal awards.

Note: I apologize in advance if this was said anywhere before and this isn't meant as anything more then just something interesting to look at that relates to ToR.

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.

300 000 000$ for development? some of that money went to award givers xD just kidding. we will see if the game deserves all that when its released.

take away everything that comes from being "best at e3" and you don't really get much...and it doesn't have best of any convention other than e3, like gamescom, or PAX...it lost to guild wars 2...wasn't even close.

in short, its the bioware effect.  don't take it as more than that

I used to TL;DR, but then I took a bullet point to the footnote.

    Nice cheap shot.

It's good its won awards but in general awards mean very little. I mean, every movie that wins the big awards are normally pretty awful.

  • whilanwhilan Member UncommonPosts: 3,472

Doesn't stop them from having over 50 awards. I'm merely putting more info out there while most of it is from E3. that doesn't invalidate that it might indeed be a good game.   E3 is just as good as any other show.

Not sure what your trying to achieve by injecting GW2 (seems to happen alot) into a ToR thread, this has nothing to do with ToR.

Kinda of darned if you darned if you don't situation you put there.

If the game wins a lot of awards then it's not indication as awards mean little.

If it wins no awards then that means the game is bad because it didn't even do well enough to score any awards.

I guess they gotta mean something as people wouldn't try so hard to get em.

That's just silly. How can it get a "best pc game / mmorpg / whatever" award when it ain't even finished?

It's clear that they simply told certain websites "give us an award, or you won't get beta keys, interviews or other information from us regarding the game".

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

This game will probably be a huge success since they are trying to go the WoW route and dumb everything down so much  that the helmet wearing downs syndrome kid with an IQ of 60 can play it.

It's clear huh? well you can always email a mod here as they seem to have gotten 2 from mmorpg.com as well, Go figure.

Whichever the case you've got quite a conspiricy theory there.  Say whichever you want, but places like machimedia don't just give out awards.

It is also possible they have a version of the game we aren't seeing or haven't been shown yet that makes them feel that way.

It's Bioware.  They get awards, based on their fantastic track-record of single-player, story-driven, rich environmental games, for just being, well, Bioware.  :)

The big unknown is whether that rich history of success and accomplishment carry-over to a multiplayer-online game that carries an additional $15/month.

Don't take the rest of this post the wrong way, I'm going to give ToR a shot...

But Brokeback Mtn. won something like 8 Academy awards, and I'm definitely not buying that...

Awards don't always translate into I would call quality entertainment.

I have to agree this is silly. I understand  best at E3, best cinematic etc awards but on what basis is it getting best rpg and best MMO awards? if i am not wrong one has to actually play the end product before handing out awards like candies.

Who could have thought that WOW could bring super power like USA to its knees?

Im picking on WoW btw because its the beast that made all of this possible

At first I thought it was about the entire Tor series but then I saw the best mmorpg. It reminds me the nobel prize Obama got right after he become a president.

If they are getting "best mmo" awards at a trade show like E3 then it makes perfect sense, because most games shown at E3 are not finished and the point is to show them off to people in the industry... therefore out of mmos and rpg games shown there it received for many people the "best mmo" award.

I understand that sometimes awards are given out to people who don't deserve them based on their reputation (Obama comes to mind as does Johnny Depp who has denounced his own awards before)... but I doubt such is the case here just because it's BioWare or just because it's Star Wars.  Force Unleashed 2, nobody was cutting it any slack.

Of course "The best XXX" rewards are actually "The best XXX of the show" rewards...

But heck, this is pretty much to advertise and attract people.

Awards for best playable demo is fine before launch but besides that the whole thing reminds me of Obamas Nobel peace price... Hopes but nothing proven.

2011 will be a great year and I am looking forward to see which games that wins, but the competition havn't started yet so it is kinda pathetic that they share out so many awards already. And they were happy to share out some on the first cinematic trailers, which have very little to do with the game.

Lets give out awards for 2011 games in a year from now instead, then they actually deserves the prices after showing what they are made of.

Its just EA/Bioware pulling their strings... Like most awards theses days, its part of the PR/publicity machine.

Well you should fit right in.

50 awards so far is cool. If they hit any shows before launch in 11, it will tell a clearer story.

Awards dont matter to me.....buying this game regradless.

Awards should only given out to finished products.

Any and all rewards given to a game prior to release, SWTOR included, is based around nothing more than an award for how well the developer and publisher's are hyping the game.

Just take a look at last year's results... APB and Global Agenda were creating a huge amount of buzz... yet they pretty much flopped at release.

I have to agree with you exwin.  I will say though, that since they get to see a much bigger part of the game than I do at these conventions and since those awards are based on that game play, I feel pretty comfortable with these awards.

Still, I remain cautiously optimistic and definitley hopeful for this game.

agreed, this thread wasn't so much about whether the game will be good or not as it was a hey thats neat or hey thats a good sign type of thing.

Ok cmon now guys. Guild Wars 2 won a big award at Gamescomm. And it wasn't finished either. Where were all these conspiracy theories then? The awards were giving for at the current state. Idk if Tor will be huge, do good but not great, or tank at release. But Bioware has been smashing hurdles and doubts since their beginnings. The complete verdict on which is best will not be known till the upcoming mmorpgs releases.

I find the number of awards a bit amazing, but then again, this is clearly one of the biggest newsmakers in the genre in a long time so its to be expected that its drawing lots of attention.

And I assume people who vote for the awards like what they see, that's all that matters and perhaps we'll be getting a new, fun MMORPG to play next year.

    Or it could suck.

    We'll see.

They are E3 awards, not awards for released games, sheesh. ALL the awards at E3 are for games that aren't released yet. They just judge based on what they can see.
