What Makes An MMoRpG GooD? WHICH ONE IS THE BEST OF ALL TIME?

image Hmmm, mmos dont really differ much from each other in my opinion. You just go around killing stuff mashing things and getting higher in levels and playing with friends. I cansee why its fun and so many ppl playit. But why is WoW so much greater and games like Everquest II sucking in ratings. I think guild wars is ok but not ok cause it is just an multiplayer online go around blasting stuff instead of an mmo wth quests and stuff. IONO put down ure opinion.image

WHICH ONE IS THE BEST SO I CAN PUT ALL MY TIME INTO IT AND BUY IT AND PLAY IT ALL DAY ALL NIGHT LONG FOREVER TILL MY EYES BLOW OUT!image

Why isn't FF XI in your poll? It's getting higher ratings in the site feedback (and has a higher subscriber base) then several of the ones you put in.

I see nothing good whatsoever coming from this thread.

Please No flaming/trolling/or putting down people who likes different mmorpgs or this thread will have to be locked

    Many thanks

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

Shadowbane and Ultima Online are my two favorites so far...  Niether of which are on the list.  My reasoning revolves largely on the PvP elements.

What greater tribute to free will than the power to question the highest of authority? What greater display of loyalty than blind faith? What greater gift than free will? What greater love than loyalty?

I have played my fair share of MMO's and with a doubt my favorites are, and in this order.

    1. World of Warcraft
    2. Dark Age of Camelot
    3. City of Hereos.

I love games that are fun, have a good player base, and allow me to PVP when I want to. City is the only game that misses out on point three and thats because I think the sheer amount of fun I had in that game negates the lack of PVP.

The original Everquest up to velious expansion was by far, for me, the best MMORPG I have ever played and will continue to use it as a tool to compare with the new games out there.

    Original Neverwinter Nights on AOL.

How can you not include the first graphical MMORPG?

Whatever makes an MMORPG good doesn't exist in any of those games. Funny how all of those are either recent or mainstream.

It all depends, in my opinion, there is no best.
If you like to play a superhero, play City of heroes.
If you like to play a fantasy style world with warcraft 3 elements, play World of warcraft.
If you wouldt like to play a game with most of the dialogues spoken by the npc's, with realtime graphics and not cartoonic like World of warcraft, play Everquest 2.
If you wouldt like to play in space, play Eve Online.
If you wouldt like to PVP alot, play Lineage 2 or Shadowbane.
If you wouldt like to play the best, and dont mind the graphics, play Everquest, Ultima Online, ...
If you wouldt like to play in a star wars universe that's skill based and not level based (at least it was before cu) play Star Wars Galaxies.
If you wouldt like to play a 2D game with nice graphics, play Ragnarok Online.
If you wouldt like to play a First Person Shooter (fps) Online, play Planetside, Neocron, Neocron 2
Asheron's call 2 is also one of the possibilities.
If you wouldt like to test a mmorpg for a year to see the look and feel better, play Anarchy Online.
If you wouldt like to buy a mmorpg (technically isn't a mmorpg) and never pay a monthly price, play Guild Wars.
Those are the best in my opinion... There are others but i'm not that familiar.

Please if i have forgot some, dont start shouting at me, just add them in another reply mmkay? :D

To be honest this poll is redundant, without Everquest and Ultima Online, it is not a reliable poll image

  • OnyxBMWOnyxBMW Member Posts: 207

This poll is moot. EQ1 isn't listed (complete crap but is one of the fore-runners of the MMO genre) AC1 isn't listed (kicks the crap out of EQ1) UO isn't listed (also crap but free servers were good or so I've heard) etc etc.

Without the fore-runners in the MMO market no "best" can truly be determined...besides, its all just a matter of opinion in the end and all this discussion ever turns up is a bunch of kids whining back and forth claiming theirs is best when it just ends up being personal taste.

"I think guild wars is ok but not ok cause it is just an multiplayer online go around blasting stuff instead of an mmo wth quests and stuff. "

Have you even played it? the entirety of levelling up and gaining skills is basically centred around questing.. and they're elaborately scriped quests, as they can be since the world is instanced for you. There has been no point at which I did not have at least 2 quests on the go...

Fair enough if you don't ilke it, but it sounds like you're venturing an opinion without full knowledge.
