Mousewheel Bug from 2007 workaround for 2011

GoromhirGoromhir Member UncommonPosts: 463

If your Mousewheel suddenly stops working while playing then you are a victim of a bug from 2007 which is still present in 2010 and probaly 2011 because Turbine seems to not care about this bug. The Lord of the Rings Forum has a few threads about this bug since 2007 until december 2010 and the bug is still present.

So once every few hours your Mouse Wheel doesnt Zoom in or out anymore ?? No worries, no need to install new drivers for your mouse, no need to re-install your system. Its the broken game itself not your computer or your mouse.

Here is the Workaround !!

>>>> EXIT GAME and relog , hope that it wont happen again anytime soon <<<<<

isnt that a great fix ? you only have to Quit the game and relog then you just need some luck and you maybe play a few hours with a working Mouse Wheel. Awesome :)

/sarcasm off

Yep yep sadly thats how Turbine is fixing bugs, 3 years and no fix for this still.... i think bugs that force players to comepletly reload a game should be 1st Priority... Turbine seems to do anything else but the stuff that should be 1st Prio....

Sadly that bug isn't even probably from them. Its happened to me multiple times in several programs and the same fix seems to work for all of them. Alt-tab to another program that uses the mouse wheel and the alt-tab back. Its happened several time to me in LoTRO and the same fix helped. I Alt-tabbed to Firefox loaded up a page and scrolled up and down then alt-tabbed back and I could use my Mousewheel again.

How often have you run into this though?

I have, twice in 600 hours I've played LOTRO.

OTOH, I crash randomly on average once every 3 hours.  And by that I mean completely randomly. Sometimes I can play for 5 hours straight without a problem, sometimes I crash immediately upon logging in and once in a while 15 minutes a part.

Which is actually an improvement. When I first started playing, every time I did an instance it would lock up. A hard lock. Only on my desktop, on my laptop it worked fine. That is fixed, but now both have the random crashing.

R.I.P. City of Heroes and my 17 characters there

So is it a bug from 2007 or something that just started I'm getting confused. Because if its the former why are you just suddenly getting this problem now? I have no problem saying that it could be something in the program, it could very easily be something that is interfering with the mouse drivers or the HID service. Thing is if you haven't bug report it because more and likely it has somethign to do with your specific computer setup and its interaction with LoTRO.

Also I didn't say its caused by another program running I said try to switch to another program and see if that clears it up in LoTRO. When I had this problem it came down to something in the OS that got cleared when I reinstalled. I'm not saying thats what you'll have to do but first see if you can figure out if LoTRO is no longer accepting input from the mousewheel or if the computer has stopped providing that information. Since I've not been able to recreate the bug once, I can't help you. And if its something that is specfic to your system config or a small section of system configs, Turbine may not be able to recreate it either.

Which means you need to do some investigative tests to see if you can pinpoint where the mousewheel is dying. Is it stopping at the program or the OS. If its the program after you alt-tab to your Browser it should function just fine and when you alt-tab back it will no longer work. If its getting stopped at the OS then when you Alt-tab it still won't work. doing this will also determine if you can have an easier workaround by just alt-tabbing between programs.

I think this forum would be great if there was a new thread started for every bug found in any MMO. Keep up the good work OP!

    If WoW = The Beatles
    and WAR = Led Zeppelin
    Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

thank you ! its a pleasure to inform everyone about Turbines wonderful quality assurance...

since the official forums are ignored by Turbine and everything there is for the dog this kind of board is perfect to spread some good information to new customers. so they know with what kind of company they have to deal in future.

Lotro went F2P because  many many players left , no wonder with that kind of terrible customer support and game support.

Turbine doesnt care about Customers or their opinion, they just care about themselfes. instead of fixing bugs like this, they add more content with more bugs.

A stupid annoying Bug from 2007 not fixed in 2011 is

    worth talking about !!

LOTRO went F2p because they realized the pricing model will make them more players and shit-loads more cash. Nothing more. So f@cking sick of all the jack-wagons who think it was because it was failing. That may have been true for DDO...but LOTRO never had any lack of players in my experience. At the least..there were always plenty of people online when I played before F2P...and even more..much more..now. Grouping, when needed, was never an issue. Before I get the old" Proof please" or "post link" bullshit ...I'll just say "You first".

As far as the mouse scroll "bug". Guess it's just bad luck. I've been playing the game since it started..off and on...hundreds of hours...and I have never experienced the "bug". Maybe the game just doesn't like you. Does the game have bugs..yes..plenty at times. Though, imo, Turbine has been pretty good at fixing them.
