MMORPG.com Community Manager Mike Bitton recently had the opportunity to sit down with Trion Worlds CCO Scott Hartsman to talk about the company's inaugural title, Rift. Check out our exclusive interview and then let us know what you think!
The first beta event featured the Defiant faction, while the second focused on the Guardian faction. What will the focus of the next event be? When is the next event scheduled for?
Remember when I said that one of our recurring themes is that we really really do like to put our money where our mouth is and actually listen to what people are saying? One of the biggest pieces of feedback through beta one and beta two was, “I want to play more. Please please please do an event between Christmas and New Year’s, because we’re all off school, work, or whatever.” Despite the fact that it’s going to cause a whole lot of people to have to work, it’s exactly what we’re doing. And so, we’re doing a remix event of 1-20 Silverwood and Freemarch, only this time with more events, more zone wide events, as well as zone boss events, as well as the expanded Soul System to let people really dive into playing with all kinds of incredibly cool combinations.

They listen to player feedback and then implement major changes to the game based on that feedback in a week or 2... future looks v promising for this game
On a side note, should have asked if a remix of freemarch/silverwood is being run next will there be pvp as both factions will be playing at the same time. I know beta 3 is meant to be the one pvp will be tested ect, but I dunno, it just seems the way he worded it didn't sound like this was going to be beta 3, but more like a beta 2.5 to keep people happy till 3. Could be me totally misreading it though
The beta three stuff has been announced (check the news) and players will be able to log in as either faction.
Go Guardians!
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The beta polish was very impressive, it's definitely one of the talking points. I'd hazard it was the smoothest, most professionally done betas.
I'm really hoping that we will be able to play the Warfronts in beta 3 aswell as open world PVP.
My only concern really is that so far in 3 betas we are only seeing levels 1-20, ie no more than a few days gameplay for most people. I hope they are going to beta the rest of the levels as well, as it would be sheer folly for players and previewers alike to try and form an opinion based on just the initial part of the game.
To me, it feels thus far like Warhammer Online Version 2 with a dash of Tabula Rasa, but it needs so much more if it is really going to take off.
As a centrepiece the rifts sound great and play well, but how will Trion get round WAR's problem with PQ's of having insufficient players in most areas once the initial rush through the game has been completed and newbies enter an empty area?
Performance-wise, I take my hat off to Trion, they have done an amazing job with the servers and and the whole professionalism of the project is outstanding.
Content and gameplay are, however, what make or break a game and we haven't seen enough of either yet to know how Rift will work out.
And i feel bad for all the guys in your company that saw their holidays go down the toilet
ok this bit is so true i was shouting in chat for the GM'sto stop spawning so many and now i realise it was the games system doing it...wow really impressive
"this is the game doing this, this isn’t a Game Master sitting there spawning stuff, this is the game. And so they were shouting things in global chat, like, “GM! Wait! We’re still in an instance!” and so people were really wanting to come outside and see what the world change was all about."
the above reminds me of fae we went in and came out to the map full of invasions....it was great
