PVP shooter games are only really fun if there are a fair number of players. 32v 32 is kind of approaching that.. which is probably why its more fun than Global Agenda, though even so.. small squad based pvp .. tends to be boring at best.. ideally i'd want to see games of this sort with 100+ teams sizes.. at least that would make it a bit more interesting.
A buddy of mine just picked this up and wants me to buy it. Looks like they stopped the trial and I haven't heard whether this game is doing well and worth the purchase or not. To those playing, or no longer playing, is the game worth the purchase?
Not worth the money, I tried the game myself for about 3 weeks and ended up having major problems with it. First problem is nerfings. They made all the mobs hard to kill. Every time you get shot by a mob it is a 1shot kill if trying to do missions solo. In group the 1shot kill is not there.
PVP is a joke everyone cheats and was quite suprised that the devs and even the CSR folks actually supported the cheating.
Talent tree is only 13 points, they did this to make every player weak.
Learning curve is very steep.
I would not recommend this game to a casual pve player or even a causal pvp player. But if you are a type of player that is hard core and likes to play on a gankfest server and love to cheat and use ingame exploits then this game is just right for you.
You've been sniped to death by skilled players who can shoot airborne targets, that's why you're mad. The rest of your post doesn't deserve any comments, we're probably not playing the same game, you probably have downloaded/installed another program instead of GA.
As someone else mentioned in another thread, this game is fun until about 30ish. Then it's all grind and not nearly as fun. I did have a blast in beta and early release though. The recent changes in gear have made it much less fun IMO. I haven't had the urge to play in a month.
I've run into that myself. I have a level 50 assault, a level 18 recon and a level 10 robo. Once you reach a certain point, the grind really starts to get bad. Not to mention that there are only three raid maps. In most games, raiding and such gets much better gear. But in GA even "epic" gear isn't that much better than basic. Once you've reached a certain point, there is little reason to continue. Its too bad, as it could be a much better game.
The grind was mainly a result from patch 1.3, which was intended to do 2 things (this is essentially a dev quote):
Make it easier for people to get better gear.
Make it harder to get the best gear.

There is limited difference between gear so that, as a shooter, the game is still balanced. The difference is certainly still noticeable, just without being huge - which is a good thing. If you don't find the weapons to be that much better, or worth the time, why would the grind be worrysome? It's apparently not keeping you from much.
If you do want to get more without playing too much: buy a booster, it's what they're there for - earn more through extra time spent or real money, you can choose. Though, boosters won't get you anything you couldn't get otherwise, so it's infintely better than supposedly free-to-play games that are, in reality, pay-to-win.

This is full of completely innacurate comments, so I'll go through them for anyone else reading:
Mobs are not hard to kill, I don't think they've had a change in health any time recently either. No mobs can 1 shot you. Solo PvE is supposed to be more challenging than team PvE, so don't go into it expecting to win - practice. Even so, most decent players can win solo after practice, without much of a challenge.
There's less cheating in GA than most other shooters, due to centrally managed servers, datamining, spectating players, lifetime bans etc. HiRez hates hacking (hence lifetime bans without a second chance), and even caused assistedaiming.com to give up support for GA because hackers were caught and every update to their software probably quickly stopped functioning.
Skill points are capped at 13 because the 7th skill in each tree is the most powerful, so you can't get 2 of the top skills and be completely over-powered. I fail to see how preventing OP, s*** balance, is the same as making people weak. Most players seem to be able to kill people just fine...
The learning curve varies between classes: the shallowest curve is for the Robo, with lots of autoaiming weapons it also has the lowest skill cap. With stickytargetting and wave healing the Medic's skill curve is only a tiny bit less shallow, but because healing is vital to keeping the team going, the skill cap is noticeably higher. Assaults skill cap is similar to the Medic, but as they do more aiming their skill curve is probably average - not particularly steep or shallow. Recons have both the highest skill curve and the highest skill cap, essentially because of sniping. Playing as Recon, at first you are likely to do better as any other class due to more skill needed to be similarly effective, however, you also have the ability to pass the skill cap of every other class, and outperform them by a decent margin if you become top tier.
PvP is limited to 10v10, so it's very hard to find any evidence of a gankfest in that, especially compared to a lot of MMOs. Again, cheaters and exploiters are routinely caught, with less in GA than in most other shooters - though none are perfect.
As for casual / hardcore / PvE / PvP, just play the trial and see whether you like it. Of those the most lacking is probably hardcore PvE, though the upcomming paid for expansion will add the most difficult PvE mode yet, an offensive raid. If PvP oriented, be warned, you start off PvEing - just get past that, it doesn't take long to get to level 10, then PvP!
I am a causal player and I lack the twitchy reflexes needed to be really great at shooter games. I put in about 70 hours into the game so for me it was a great deal, even at $39.
The first 17 levels are open world and really pretty easy. There are some challenging bits (especially the last open world guy you have to kill) but it's a matter of persistence and trying different things that will get that particular quest finished.
You can start getting missions for instances and PvP matches at level 10. I didn't actually start until after I got out of the open world, so around level 17 or so I started queuing for the PvP and PvE missions then.
The 4 man PvE missions are OK. They are pretty straight forward...follow the path to the end, kill the guy at the end. The different tiers increase in difficulty though, so from about level 24 to 30 I couldn't complete any of the PvE missions. I don't know if it was just the people I was with or if it was me (healer). I did a lot of PvP missions. :-)
The 10 man PvP missions are actually really good. I did a lot of those from level 24 to level 30. In fact, I leveled almost exclusively from 24 to 30 in PvP. The only time I got angry at getting shot when I was sure a human could not have made the shots was when I got hit by turrets...which are computer controlled so no surprise there.
At level 30 I joined an Agency and did some AvA missions which are essentially expanded PvP missions. The difference is your Agency gets to own space on a persistent map and you earn points for gear and materials for more advanced crafted items such as rocket launchers, robot suits and nukes. This was right around the 70 hour mark for me and I started playing other stuff so either the Agency I was in disbanded or I got booted for not logging in for an extended period of time.
I still log in periodically and play some PvP missions and maybe craft a few things to level my crafting. I'm looking forward to the expansion, which I expect I'll purchase.
Right now, GA is on sale so it's worth whatever they're asking for it. If you like PvP shooters combined with some RPG leveling, character development and gear. It is definitely weighted towards the shooter side, which was just fine to me.
*edit* If you play the trial, make sure you take the quest at level 10 to do a PvP or PvE mission from the mission console. Those two mission types are the bulk of what you'll be doing. The open world quests stop at around level 17 and there won't be more open world quests until the expansion comes out.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

I've had a booster since they became available. My assaults current gear is just about as good as it gets. In fact, I've been token capped for quite some time. Nothing to purchase now that just about everything is OC. New raid maps would be nice, but I doubt we will see any, any time soon. As for the "balance" issue, thats what one expects in this type of game, so its no surprise.

So you've got pretty much everything for one character? And 2 others that are less geared out?
Sorry, I don't understand your point about the grind being bad. If you're saying it's too high, you have one character that's very well geared out and you still have tokens left over to spend on others. And if you're saying it's too low, you havn't finished the other classes - or not when you made your previous post, at least. Also, you purchased a booster to get tokens at a faster rate.
You may well have everything OC, but my point still stands that it's harder to get the absolute best loot and gain that advantage over other players than it used to be. Before, you didn't even have random device drops with their own stats and it was as simple as buying or crafting 7 epic weapon implants, and 7 epic armor implants - grind over, MMO players bored. As it is now, there's a compromise between expected MMO grind, and the shooter players that are adament that there should be as little grind as possible.
Keeping balance when combining the MMO and shooter genres is very difficult, so I find it pleasantly surprising that balance is pretty much fair in GA - with constant minor adjustments of course.
An offensive raid will be in the first paid for expansion early next year, along with another open zone and more themed weapons to go with it.

Well, assault is really the only class I have any real interest in, so thats my focus. The others are more in the nature of experiments to see what the class is like. I have almost 84 hours played at this point(mainly assault), so I'm rather familiar with the aspects of the game that interest me. At this point, I drop in once in a while to raid or some such. Other than that I've moved on to other games. Perpetuum and WoW at this point. If the next expansion adds more PvE, then I'll give it a try.
Cool. Well, yeah, people that play more characters will get more out of GA, of course. Also, the boosters are useful for those that don't want to spend as long, particularly when multiple characters are involved. So, for leveling one character it's probably unneeded. Depends on whether you'd get bored on the gameplay or the lack of rewards first.
what you get for the price is simply unmatched as far as im concerned. i don't play it every day religiously like i did in beta and at launch but it is absolutely worth picking up. the devs are awesome, and the most important fact is the gameplay is just downright fun to play. like REALLY fun to play. it gets repetetive after a while like any game, but maxing out all 4 classes is more fun gametime than any other game on the planet for 25 bucks
var fctb_tool=null; function FCTB_Init_2e1c6ca53586481594c680352a0e94b1(t) { fctb_tool=t; start(fctb_tool); } . i still pick it up and dominate for a few hours a week and can see myself doing so for many months to come.
uber black and red temple of nod gaming case 4 fuckin gigs of random access memory ge force chopper sick balls over 9000 vid card bra holy shit im bragging about my computer to play mmo's processor!
Eyefinity is a very niche product, so personally I wouldn't expect all games to support such massive resolutions (the monitor itself will work, not that it'll look pretty), especially those games where the field of view gives an advantage in gameplay - so the makers may well be inclined to lock FoV at current mainstream. I can certainly see where that's a big disappointment, but hopefully people take that into consideration before purchasing non-mainstream products that are then going to be used with average products.
My monitor's resolution is 1920x1080, so my character's feet are cut off rather than changing my FoV. It doesn't bother me, though I know Eyefinity would be immensely worse. Couldn't there be an option to temporarily switch to one monitor, so you didn't have to disconnect it all just to revert to the most common setup for whatever reason...

MMO's in general support Eyefinity to a large degree, I have played/tested so many and Global Agenda is one of the scant few that don't support it. My problem is that they refuse to support it because they see it as cheating, which is bullshit. It's all hardware, no different than having hardware like more RAM, better graphics card, or faster internet connection than others; all of which give advantages Eyefinity adds a periphial vision element much like real life periphial vision. For them to consider a form of cheating turns me off of the game and the company. I doubt I'm missing out on much anyhow, plenty of other MMO's to choose from that work with the technology.

GA is an FPS. I don't know many other MMO that are FPS, except planetside.

Actually it is a more of a TPS than an FPS. And I am sorry, but that still doesn't hold much weight with me, the notion that because the game is a competitve shooter that this makes Eyefinity cheating. Games like the Call of Duty franchise are similar competitive mutliplayer shooter games with a much larger player base and those games have no problem with Eyefinity and don't treat it as cheating, so I don't see why the developers of Global Agenda should.
Ultimately though this has little to do with the actual gameplay and whether it is good or not, it is just my personal dislike of one of the views of the developers. I played the game a litle bit (on one screen.../sigh hehe) and I didn't think it was altogether that bad of a game, but their attitude towards hardware that more people are making use of turned me off of the game.

Responses like what the dude said about GA being an FPS are completely irrelvant to Eyefinity support issues. But, of course, the general MMO player sucks at FPS games and that would explain why.
After reading the thread through I'm not sure what to make it however I was gifted a copy on steam and so its installing.
If the trailer shows me what I thought I saw then I think I will like the game and be a welcome distraction from WoW while waiting for friends to come online.
@ posters before DRandom, why the hell do you talk about MMO ? Again, this is an FPS, if an MMO considers something cheating or not doesn't have nothing to do with GA. Why do you take MMO as an example ? Are they supposed to be a reference ? They are not. End of the story. You can discuss your eyeinfinity thing if you want, but please keep MMO out of the picture.
GA is a great little FPS with some minor MMO features tacked on. To me it's the FPS version of GW, well worth the initial cost, but very few people find it enjoyable enough to pay a monthly sub.

It has a strong RPG component making it a little more enjoyable to non FPSers.
So I got my account working finally after an email to Hi Rez and I'd give the game a solid 7/10.
Some of it feels clunky to use like selecting weapons and such and the quest interface could use a redesign. Otherwise the game feels decent and solid and not had any issues with it. Some slight lag but I've found changing zones helps that alot.

If you approach this game like any other MMO (as in: Grinding gear), then you're gonna get bored really fast.
However, if you approach this game like a shooter with progression and map-based conquest, it's suddenly a whole different game.
My 2 cents anyway.
I found the game boring as a shooter and boring as a quasi-mmo and everytime I try to get back into it its still just blah. Frontlines:Fuel of War's 32vs32 multiplayer with air/land vehicles is filling my shooter itch atm.

I would give this game a try if the devs weren't biased against Eyefinity setups.
what you get for the price is simply unmatched as far as im concerned. i don't play it every day religiously like i did in beta and at launch but it is absolutely worth picking up. the devs are awesome, and the most important fact is the gameplay is just downright fun to play. like REALLY fun to play. it gets repetetive after a while like any game, but maxing out all 4 classes is more fun gametime than any other game on the planet for 25 bucks

. i still pick it up and dominate for a few hours a week and can see myself doing so for many months to come.

A definite GO!
buy it! play it! LOVE IT!
