no it isn't an underwater game or anything of the sort...
Its indeed turn-based strategy game but its in 3D, with fairly new TBS (Tactical Battle System, i believe). I havent played this game in a long time but i got two chars 115ish so I know some of the game. (The max level at that time were 130).
You control more than one char in a battle up to 9. You choose your char class at start and then when you gain levels you can hire more mercenaries into your group. The game system might seem abit too slow for some people but you need to make your strategy on attacking enemies/players very carefully and planning your moves before you have a turn.
There is alot mercenraies graded as D, C, B and A. A being the best (statwise, not necessarily good for your team depending on your strategies and team line-up) , B-grade being second best and so on. D-grade mercs can be bought from a npc but C and higher grade mercenaries needs a quest to be done. There is basically melee chars (including tankers and damage dealers), ranged chars ( archers and gunners) and magic type ( healers, buffers, damage dealers)
Leveling in Atlantica Online is peace of cake until level 95 after that the exp curve increases exponentially. For example from 94 to 95 you needed like 3 mil exp to level but from 95 to 96 you needed 15mil (numbers arent accurate but it gives the right perspective to exp curve). And what comes to lvl 100+ training, it is hard alot harder monsters, bosses and quests. There is not that many quests after level 110+ (although by the time I havent been playing, almost 2 years, they might have added a few higher level dungeons and quests), mostly its just doin the repeatable quests for minimal exp (at higher levels).
What comes to Item Mall, it makes the game imbalanced. Although the item mall items are widely accessible in the game by other players, still the Item Mall users have all the best gear thus getting the edge on pvp. At higher level you need an item mall item to increase your survivability, its not necessary but makes your leveling a whole lot easier.
And my final point, this game is all about pvp, pve part is jsut meaningless quest grind and exp grind, since the pve monsters doesnt provide that much of a strategic challenge. Atleast not as much as people in pvp. Pvp situtation is fun when you try to predict what your opponent does next and counter it and make your own strategy against it but in pve you know what the mosnters are goin to do. They either buff themselves or attack you with a skill, not alot variety.
I would give this game 8/10, to be generous. It got 8 just because its a game involving strategy, turn-base elemetn and it is 3D game. All in all I would advice you to look it up if you like games which requires some sense of strategy, like turn-based games and it has to be 3D game. There is no game better than Atlantica with these criterias.
Hope this helped you to make up your mind :P And I know its wall of text.
