Hello, I am looking for a new MMORPG to play, i played World of Warcraft since 2007 and im kind of bored with it even with the release of Cataclysm.

I have been looking at the MMORPG.com's game list and a few games have caught my eye and i've been doing some research on these games and its really hard to choose.

The following games are

Guild Wars 2

Aion

Tera

Blade & Soul

As you can see im interested in the fantasy genre, i dont mind if its free to play or pay to play and the system requirments dont bother me becauses i have a Alienware laptop.

You guys can reccomend other games to me if you like, please reply with pros and cons and reasons why.

Thankyou.

Shouldn't be too tough of a choice considering Aion is the only one of those titles that's currently released.

So so, it is a bit grindy. Looks great however.

Maybe you should get Rift instead? it is not that unlike Wow but with more modern graphics and it will release the first of march (or so they said in a mail to me). I think it is a better choice than AION.

agree with advice: Aion is grindy boring, Rift looks way better for now, GW2 could be better but nobody knows when it gonna be release.

try before buy, even if it's a game to avoid bad surprises.
Worst surprises for me: Aion, GW2

Try getting into Rift beta :)

i have been in the same boat as u for the past few months, looking for a new game to hold my interrest. i went through a lot of free trials and beta tests so  maybe my advice will help you a little.

Aion was visually beautiful. i found it a lot of fun, but it is a grind and gets more grindy as u move on in levels. i got frustrated and gave it up at level 42.  i did go back and try it after they released the new patch and found it was improved, but i couldnt get back into it.  except for the grind, i loved it.

Lord of The Rings is free to play and worth trying, but i ultimately found it to be WoW lite. i tries to give u a more epic feeling then WoW, but i found it too simpistic for my taste. but "free" equals " worth a try"....

DCUO is a fun console type action game. i played in the beta, i enjoyed it but ultimately i had just as much fun playing Star Wars the force unleashed 2 and didnt have to pay any subscription...

Age of Conan allows u to play up to level 20 for free. I found it to be a little like guild wars 1 mixed with Mortal Combat. lots of blood and "death blows" with an aggressive combat style, but otherwise a standard quest based mmo.  i found the opening area to be a little dry and vanilla, but people tell me it gets much better when u progress to the next area. same as above, it's free to try, so u have nothing to lose..

Guild wars 1 offers a free trial but felt extremely dated.. city of heros has a fee trial, but dcuo is far superior,  several other older games offer free trials too, but all i tried i didnt even make it through the free trial period..

i hope some of this is helpfull...  i know i am trying hard to get into something while i wait for ToR  and Guild Wars 2 to come out.

Aion is way better than Rift in my opinion.. the unique fantasy settings gives it a soul... Rift is void of a real personality from what I have seen so far.

I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

I don't think any game out is going to measure up to Tera, Blade & Soul, or Guild Wars2. That being said I think it's quite a wait for all three.

If you can get into DC Universe Online's beta, check that out. It is more of an action oriented MMO.

Aion is currently out and you can probably get it pretty cheap,(when there are sales)

Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.

well if GW 2 will look like all others GW games, no.

GW is not looking like WoW at all, you don't need to grind you gear, well you had to finish game, get reputations (eye of the north) and /or heroes to use, as well as find Elite skills (looted from bosses). GW is mission based game, means you advance from area to area through dungeon kind missions you do with others.

Fun is some class (monk, assassin) abilities to solo farm boss / bosses, but not sure if it still be same at GW 2.

Great is fast leveling, as before max lvl 20 it was just tutorial, then npc crafted your armor & go forward to all fun stuff. Grind is your choice only if you farm stuff for sell, if you don't, game is fast and keep you excited (except original GW, 1st game from all 3 + expansion).

PvP is lot of fun & you can just buy Factions & PvP pack to unlock your game without need to get through PvE.

Best of the best at GW - no sub, it really FREE, all you may need to buy is cosmetic or extra storage / char slots but it way cheaper then sub at WoW.

try before buy, even if it's a game to avoid bad surprises.

Which one is better overall tho?, regardless of release date?

My decision comes down to Guild Wars 2 or Rift.

If your sole intent is engame, I'd choose Rift as its engame at least looks like they have a solid plan in place.

I say out of these try first LOTR if you like PvE heavy games since now it has gone freemium what do you have to lose!

Personally I still love and play Aion, I understand why people QQ so much about the grind but found that I was able to max out relatively quickly. Besides it has been vastly improved by patches and they have cut down the grind noticeably in my opinion. It has a lot of pro's that the legions have an amazing community feeling, seiging, pvp, and PvE are all good. Though you wont be able to take part in any really good PvPvE Abyss stuff until you reach 25 at all, then realistically 45 to do stuff.

And while the grinding is reduced you will always be expected to work for things. WoW gamers struggle with this concept but there we are!

You do need to pick you server carefully since they are in different situations: the best two english ones are perento (asmo controlled and most populated in the EU) and telemachus (mine) which is elyos dominated and quite populace.

I still think until the release of GW2/Blade and Soul/TERA it has a good future.
