When I saw the headline i thought it was gonna say they left. It's utter shite, i'm sorry I bought it, soon as my subs are out i'm off back to Conan. Cata is stale and irritating.

People hate on the game because to those who dislike the style of the game, it is ruining the industry, everyone trying to copying the "winning" formula has decapitated progress. So for those who don't like it its not just a matter of not playing it, we also have to dodge around most every other developer trying to make another version of it.

Then you have fanboy trolls in every OTHER game spewing all over general chat how that game is trash because wow doesn't do it like *blahblah*.

THEN in said other game, half the time a newbie asks a question the answer is something to the effect of: " oh, well you know how the pedo spec priest does it?" And the newbie is "huh?"

No not at all i know wow is't the be all and end all in the mmo market.  I agree it sucks when your trying out a new game either in release or beta and all you see is this game sucks because it isn't wow, or all you can find on the internet is comparisons to wow and how the game can't stack up because it isn't a perfect wow clone.  i don't want wow clones, when i want to play wow i'll play wow.  But I guess dealing with haters (from both sides) is just something we'll have to deal with regardless of wich game or games are your favorite.  But wouldn't be nice if you could go to a message board or log into your favorite game without it becoming rawr your game sucks mine is better pissing match.

I do see the point there, the game industry is for better or worse a copy cat industry.  I really just don't like seeing people spewing hate at each other over wich game they think is best.  i enjoy the boards were good conversations are held and the strength and weakness of games are discussed.

Spoken like someone who hasn't actually played it.

I know, it really upsets people because its so successful..  guarantee 99 percent of the haters are in denial,  have to admit its funny though, the lengths they go to, to try and put some negative spin on this,  have to give them 10/10 for imagination.. and 0/10 for Reality...  WoW is failing.... hehe.. Dream on image

It's successful.. Doesn't mean we all have to like it... The New England Patriots could win the Super Bowl.. Yet again.. And I will still hate them.. image

About the only thing i know about baseball is that in the UK women play it.. its called rounders!! but.. joking aside, the nearest thing to it in the UK is probably football, and yes, the fans will love or hate particular teams despite whether they win, lose or draw. actually thats not a bad comparison, as it does seem that way with MMO's too, all games have their 'die hard' fans, One of the things i find a little surprising is that given the sheer volume of WoW players, that the number of posters claiming WoW is evil etc,  (and yes im exaggerating.. but not by much!) seems to be inversely proportional to the games success..  at a guess i'd say that WoW players are mostly playing the game, and not playing the forums.... now maybe that should be a 'truer' measure of a games success, the number of players 'playing the forums' being proportional, if in a negative fashion, to the number of players actually playing the games...image

If my comperhension is correct it means 3.3 was sold the day of, and another 4.7 was sold the following month.. doesnt that come out to 8million..

For someone who has played Asheron's Call on DIAL UP (if you didn't play AC1 (or were not even born yet), then your negative comments/flamebait are hereby ignored), then was out of the MMO realm for along time before returning the year after WOTLK was released, WoW is quite nice. The eye candy redesign of the old world is very cool and the way the quest mechanics are run are pretty sweet with bread crumb quests, or quests that don't require you to run back and forth across a huge continent by having the start and reward occur in a pop up window. That's pretty slick. Oh, and don't forget the massive amounts of phasing that pulls you along the new content.

I guess my complaint, if you want to call it that is I am a very casual player that was able to get to the level cap by Christmas; however, (and it's a big however) just because I am level capped, there is still value to continuing with the quest lines to get the story content and, yes, the gear grind. It is good that the available gear is known and I can plan my upgrade path. I do enjoy getting cool trinkets of shiny gear along the way. It's always good, when you pop a new, shiny item on yourself and look over it's stats in comparison with whatever you just replaced. More damage, higher chance to crit, higher chance to hit? It's a keeper item, otherwise, sell, sell, sell.

Uldum is currently where I am hanging out and couldn't find the next piece in the quest chain for "Dr. Jones" where you pick over a dead scout's body. He's a tiny goblin and the quest marker is nearly the same color as the background. I could see him on the map, but couldn't find him in the chamber until I looked DOWN. BUT he opens up a whole chain that I wanted to complete to get another shiny trinket. That's OK that's why I play. I want to see what came out of the minds of the developers in the story that they are trying to tell. 15Gigs of content is pretty massive to get through, I don't know if I will get to raiding at all or not. We'll see, maybe I'll go and start in the new PVP areas.

Overall, I think it was worth the price of the expansion. Would I pay again? Sure. Would I like to see some kind of pay as you go by the hour subscription? YES.

The game is based on paying your dues and researching specs and gear to be effect in the end game. I have been paying my dues for a couple years getting to that last level of 80 and now have basically rocketed to 85 in a few days, but 85 isn't the real cap not is it? My damage has doubled since reaching 85 and I am still in pretty garbage gear. Not bad, not bad at all.

Your comperhension was incorrect. 3.3 in 24 hours, 4.7 TOTAL after a month.

Back to my original rant: As if I wasn't irritated enough at wow, they also have Bobby Kotick. You'd think he alone would be enough to shrink their sub numbers.

You are awesome sir. An actual REAL AC1 player. I still play WoW, am enjoying it but... WoW does not compare to AC in terms of gear grinding and grinding. It will not and cannot ever compare. I've spent 1000's of hours in a 7 man fellowship/party just to get that 1 piece of armor that had the best stats. All these kids crying about these new games don't even know what we went through. It's good times though. AC is still the best MMO out there. Always will be.

And the PvP is extremely different in AC than WoW too. Looting your enemies body after killing him? Find that awesome high AL suit he's wearing and want it? Kill him, take it from him.

Omg ppl get over that game already, you are worse than cults.. "Blizz is gona do another game, its gona be awesome!" You know what? It "wont". Its just old game which you were used to play. They just waited long enough so you played it so much you are bored by it, you dont play it for few monts/years so they do "new" game, same as previous and they just improve graphic + few things. So nothing new, just the old thing. But appereantly it works. ;)

I'm just waiting what will be project Titan, Diablo or Starcraft online. Or WoW 2! Yea I know, they said it wont, but if they are doing "new" thing I'm realy wondering how great it will be cause they havent done anything new pretty long time.

Played: Lineage 2,Guild Wars 1 and 2, Age of Conan, Ragnarok Online, LOTRO, World of Warcraft, League of Legends, EvE online
Tried: KAL Online, Face of Mankind, ROSE online
    Playing: CS:GO

It's not a "game" it's an expansion, so.....no. But I respect your opinion. There are assorted views on Cataclysm.

The statistics that I would find most interesting are:

    1. How many players hit 85 in the first week?

    2. How many players that BOUGHT Cataclysm have now already left the game due to disappointment or boredom? (I am one.)

Of course we will never see THESE statistics.

Why, thank you, Herri. My son misses the PVP in AC as well. He spent a lot of time killing for gear. The death mechanics in AC made sure that you didn't just go into an area and try to faceroll everything in your path. There was a real consequence to death, unlike WoW; however, I like the fact that if I die in some god forsaken corner of Aseroth, I won't loose my gear, or get gang banged by the death stat penalty that DOESN'T drop after 20 minutes. No mounts kind of sucked, too, but since I played UA, the speed bonuses were pretty fantastic when you had to run to the far reaches of Auberean to get that shiny trinket or visit the bunny of death!!

AC a cult? Why of course, just like Ultima Online which still lives on in private servers everywhere.

Unless you have the Blizzard books then no and retail stores don't give that kind of information to the public. It is all about keeping the mmo genre afloat and nobody who works in the industry wants to tear those numbers down because people would think the sky is falling for the mmo genre, so nobody calls them out on their numbers. Though in all honesty you do not have to go that far, you can simply tell by the lack of people on your server. Common sense rules all! :)

The sky will fall when they start decommissioning servers and migrating accounts, but that can probably be done by creation of virtual servers so the process would be transparent.

    Seriously though, both apply.

Almost half of the people "playing WoW" live in China where it is not released yet. Meaning about 80% or more that owned WotLK in any other part of the world had upgraded their accounts.

Unfortunately was one of the ones who pre-ordered this and after 3 weeks was absolutely bored with it. Basically slapped a new coat of paint on it but there isn't anything really new content wise.

Funny to me they havent showed actve subs count yet because alot of people have quit because of how hard the game is now their selling point was anyone could pick up and play it and now they can't we lost baout 30 members in are guild that were casual players that raided sometimes but did 5-,mans and bgs but the heroics take to long now and are to hard.

  • Aison2Aison2 Member CommonPosts: 624

many unsubscribed again, i  /quit last week and a quick glimpse at guildrooster showed ~20 lvl81-85 who did likewise, it was fun but im done already, endgame is same as wotlk, pvp beeing partly worse. Only grand thing where the new zones and heroics.
