Thrilled, pre- loaded on Steam. Took Tuesday and Wednesday off work, even. I know, I know, launch days are mostly wasted, in terms of game- time, but I'm willing to take the chance for this one.
I have a feeling with a company as big as SOE, that it will actually go pretty smooth. This compared to some of the smaller companies or inexperienced ones releasing MMOs lately. So my hopes are up.

I find this to be the biggest boneheaded move by SOE. They are launching the servers at 10am EST, Tuesday morning. Most retail stores don't open til then. This means that anyone that wants to jump into the game immediately is going to ditch their retail preorder for a digital download. I would imagine there are going to be loads of people that will do this, myself included. I already know of several. Those sticking with their retail copy will be looking at getting into the game possibly several hours after those that purchased the digital download.
To further add to SOE's blunder is the fact that none of those offering the digital download, are offering a Collector's Edition version of the game. So, those of us, including myself that had preordered a Collector's Edition from a retail store will be giving that up for a copy of the game that costs half the price! You do the math. Not a wise move by a company looking to make money along with happy customers.
I cannot fathom for the life of me why MMO companies seem to continue to make brainless decisions like this. Who are the morons pulling the strings when it comes to making these decisions, geesh! I need to apply for a job at one of these companies. I should be able to move up the corporate ladder in no time!

I guess it bothers you but not me. I am getting it for PS3 so the early people will have fun on their PC versions.

Yeah it does kinda suck...but some of us have work anyway so it's all the same for the most part. I wonder if we will have to download a huge patch on top of the client that's being shipped.

Anyone who can play the moment the game is comming out and will be getting a physical copy should call their game stop and explain the situation and ask if they already have the game instock or will be getting it today.
I remember buying Guild wars:EOTN the day before the game went live from Gamestop

Way ahead of you. I called my local Gamestop over the weekend and spoke with the manager who imformed me that he could be fired if he were to sell the game any earlier then Tuesday morning. That is when I proceeded to cancel my preorder of the Collector's Edition from them and purchase + preinstall a digital copy through Steam.

MrcdesOwnr,
I must apologize for my earlier post. What I SHOULD have said is: "You are absolutely right. This is a really stupid move by SOE (in addition to the Jan 4th beta 'lie')". After reading this, I actually ended up preordering from D2D mostly because I got the $15 off from putting 'wootdc' at the promo code screen. So pay $15 more and be unable to play at launchtime, but have to download patches? I don't think so. I think I'm passed needing all the shiny boxes for my collection.

So...That means those who ordered it through the post will get to miss the server crashing, authentication going down, station.com account section going tits-up, login queues...shame.
There is NO miracle patch.
95% of what you see in beta won't change by launch.
Hope is not a stategy. ______________________________ "This kind of topic is like one of those little cartoon boxes held up by a stick on a string, with a piece of meat under it. In other words, bait."

Oh nooooo not a few hours later with the retail version!! What a terrible business move. Give me a break, the majority of consumers don't care because they have lives and other tasks to tend too such as jobs.
On a more relevant note - preordered the PS3 version here in the UK. Hopefully have it on Thursday.

Funny that. I know the majority of my guild and friends that are playing this game are taking the day off from work. I'm guessing your job doesn't entail making financial decisions for medium to large corporations looking to make a profit.
In addition, you might want to know that the SOE authentication/account server is already currently locked up with those that are too busy with a life and jobs to be bothered, lol.
Release days can go so bad that I never even think about taking a day off for them now.
I agree. I did this 2 times and had 2 epic failures in my MMO history dating back to UO.

Yes, youre probably right.
The folks who log in after us first-ers might have a better time. I myself actually cancelled my many months old Gamestop preorder. I went with Steam, i liked the trinket they give you better than D2D's. Too bad for my debitcard that Steam didnt have a discount.
Anyone that preordered at Target having issues? Target delayed my order until March 17th and calling the customer service line helps nothing. They show that they only sell the Collectors's Edition and the PS3 version now. Said it was due to unavailbility, which is odd since there are literally thousands of copies in stores all over town right now. So basically I got rooked out of my pre-order items because Target screwed up and I am highly doubtful that SOE will be any help. Not known for their outstanding customer service ya know?
Guess I'll pick up a box somewhere today so I can at least play.
Played: Asheron's Call(still the best fantasy MMO!), EQ1, EQ2, Vanguard, DAoC, Horizons, City of Heroes/Villians, WoW (crap), LOTORO, D&D Online, Eve, Anarchy Online, and still playing SWG daily.

Thanks!
Argh!!! going to cancel my SOE buy right now!!!
