Saw a few questions again about pricing for Rift (specifically about the under $10/mo) and found this thread which gives some pretty good info vs other games.
RIFT Founder's Pricing vs [Insert Competitor Here]
Enjoy!
Comments
Founder pricing is only good till 03/14/11. They also don't refund any of the subscription. If you change your subscription after 03/14/11 it goes to normal price.
Edit : "*Your payment method will be charged (on a recurring basis at your selected subscription rate) until you cancel your subscription. If you choose to cancel or change your subscription plan, the Founder’s Subscription plan will no longer be available."
It's a nice ploy to get people to put down money up front. It's really a bad bet, no one knows what there is over 30 or if there is even 3 or 6 months worth of content.
I learned my lesson with the pre-order.
Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.
I'd prefer the thread remain on topic but..
I don't think it's debatable that it is a marketing ploy as it is temporary and people are betting on an unknown quantity.
The thread that was linked also made it seem as if it were something that could be compared to other MMOs. To be able to compare it other MMOs you would have to compare it to their marketing ploy such as lifetime subscriptions and the like.
Founder pricing is temporary, we don't know what the real pricing is going to be.
Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.

I bet you can sell your pre-order. I'd try that and bet someone will take you up on it.
Anyway, a little more clarity around this Founder Pricing so it's not perceived as a half-truth, though it just might be a copy-writing thing. So It "isn't" only good until March 15th, but will only be made available to "new accounts" through March 15th.
After March 15th, any player that purchased a "Founder" subscription packet price of 3-months or 6-months, which are the discounted rates, will 'continue' to receive that same discounted rate on a recurring basis and 'not' incurr a higher monthly subscription rate as long as the player does not cancel.
Still a good and very reasonable deal.
Of course it's a short term deal to get people interested in the price, then take it away. Did you get the front seat in class usually or the back seat?
How do you think advertising works? How do you think ANY company gets people interested in their product?
He's just stating the obvious? You're even worse.. you must be Captain Obvious' sidekick if you don't know what this is.
"TO MICHAEL!"
Agreed, it is a very good deal. But you cant compare these prices, one is only good for a select group of people used for advertisement so that people buy the game at launch, and the others are permanent rates.

I have a question. Do you think that this game will have a lifetime membership option? I know that other games have had it but I don't know when exactly how much it usually is or if companies still do it. ( I have a friend who did that for LotRO)
I used to TL;DR, but then I took a bullet point to the footnote.
You have completely missed the point. It is a good deal, but it is comparing a deal vs permanent. So these comparisons mean nothing.
It would be just as informing as having the founders price next to the RIFT permanent price. Actually this might give even more information.

Ohh...I see waht your saying about comparing. Yea, I get it...it is a promotional price that is "long-term" and "absolute" for those that pre-order, for the life of their account, assuming they dont cancel. And those that dont pre-order are not afforded the "best value". I get it.
Edit: But a nice thing about this price anyway is that even if you dont take the 3-6months special pricing, you have 2-weeks to decide whether you want to upgrade to it after launch, and still snag it if you see yourself playing for 3-months.
lol, for some reason, after reading these posts, i'm reminded of this:

Even if someone didn't get the 'deal', those prices are still in line with every other MMO so that's not the issue.
What is the point is that it's simply a thread to compare prices with other MMOs... like it's labeled.
You and your buddy pointing out obvious things which aren't really perceptive (as it clearly labeled) don't earn you any points really.
You'd look just as smart as you would if you pointed out that everyone reading this thread was breathing oxygen.

You obviously have been missing posts and comments where people have been saying "Is this game F2P?" "How much is the monthly fee vs WoW?" "Do they have lifetime pricing?"
Clearly, your effort to turn the thread into "Rift isn't giving you anything more than anyone else is" has failed, because that was never the issue of the thread.
This issue is Rift pricing vs other MMOs, not "Rift 'special deal' pricing vs other mmos."
"TO MICHAEL!"
I am not trying to get any bonus points from this thread, you made the thread title "Rift monthly pricing vs other MMOs.. real numbers."
So I expected real true numbers, and this thread did not deliver those. These rates mean nothing in comparison to other MMOs, after this deal runs out they will be the same as every other MMO, nothing news worthy here.

Okay, what's 'not real' about the numbers in the thread?
I'm pretty sure you and your buddy never even clicked the link, because it's pretty evident what the normal pricing is gonne be if you R E A D the thread and what the special pricing is.
At least to anyone who has English as a first language.
"TO MICHAEL!"
But, until this deal runs out, these real numbers are smaller than the majority of other MMO's real numbers. That's the point of this post, no less, no more. Stop trying to twist it around into a negative.
I actually have not been following Rift at all, so I have not heard the questions about is it F2P or do they have life time pricing. I have no motive here to destroy the game, I just thought that the thread was aimed to be miss leading.
"This issue is Rift pricing vs other MMOs, not "Rift 'special deal' pricing vs other mmos."" - Dont understand, how is this at all about Rift pricing vs other MMOs and not about Rift special deal pricing vs other mmos.

I am not trying to twist it around, sorry if it sounds that way, I honestly have nothing against or for this game.
In computer science you learn to find the efficiencies of algorithms by looking at the worst case scenario. So I am looking at this price situation as the average user that will be buying this game after the dust has settled.

Let's see here: $15/month, $15/month, $15/month, $15/month... do I see a pattern here?
If it's comparing longer term subscriptions, than I've got a recurring subscription to Champions Online that is $30 per 3 months, which comes to $10/month on average for a 3 month term. That was a temporary offer, but it was available far after launch, so people had some idea of whether they liked the game.
Also, if comparing to WoW, you have to consider all the free days that Blizzard gives because their servers don't work. Well, that and that their servers don't work, which I guess more than compensates for the free days.
You only have so many posts to make about a game before people will label you a 'troll'. The more you post negatively, the more people actually look at what you're complaining about.
You are choosing to whine about 'special pricing' when anyone who wanted to could clearly click the link and get all the info they needed (no "efficiencies of algorithms" or Economics minors needed). But you wanted to forum PvP to belabor a pretty obvious issue (as you yourself admitted it was).
I think I'll pass so you can have a go at someone else because this is something pretty stupid to keep responding to someone who says..
"I actually have not been following Rift at all, so I have not heard the questions about is it F2P or do they have life time pricing", but is commenting anyways on obviousl things.
Anyways, if someone else who hasn't seen pricing does a /sea, they probably will get what they are looking for pretty quickly if they read that link so..
Happy days!
"TO MICHAEL!"
LOL! An innocent thread like this can't even get by without a flame war erupting. On the second post no less!
Awesome. Just awesome. BTW- it's called founder pricing for a reason. a discount for those who jump in at the beginning and subscribe with Rift for the long haul. Don't like it? Don't buy the 6 months. That simple. It's not a ploy or some type of scheme. They're actually delivering on what they are selling. 6 months sub to play Rift for 10 bucks.
Sounds like a great deal to me. Why? Because I know what I'm getting and I love that I'm getting it for 10 bucks a month.
Bring on Beta 5...
The trolls are losing their minds that this game is actually good. The more irrational they become, the funnier it gets.
Heck even massively has a GLOWING review of the game after Beta 4. Imagine the reviewer of the article played the game for more than an hour too!
Lol, you are a very angry person. I am not speaking poorly of your game at all, I am sure it will be a very good game and everyone that plays it will have a blast. I am just trying to say you were attempting to mislead people, just as Quizzical has pointed out a post or two ago. Compare special prices to other special prices, or permanent to permanent.
EDIT: or say hey, this is a special price vs a permanent price. If you do not, that is attempted to misinform people.

I wasn't misled by the OP. I completely understood his point. Anyone else feel misled? Lied to? Heart torn from their chest by this blatant lie!? Do we need to get Johnny Cochran in here?
Be that as it may....
I'm not the one here who needs to go to college and have to be taught "efficiencies of algorithms" in order to simply figure out "this price situation as the average user that will be buying this game after the dust has settled."
Or in layman's terms: how much a sub is going to cost someone overall.
If I'm angry, that's makes you pretty dense to have to do all that just to comprehend a montly sub fee under 20 bucks.
But enough of what we think of each other.. how about you actually run along and read up on the game (since you said you didn't follow it) and apply a algorithm or hypothesis to see if you'll like it.
"TO MICHAEL!"
Actually I was misled at first. I looked at the link, saw the remarkable prices and was very impressed how they compared to other games. I saw that it was called Founder's Price, but it doesn't explain anywhere what that exactly means. Once I read the first reply to this thread, then I was finally informed what these numbers meant. But Popinjay just went on to bash on the guy for informing people like me that are just starting to do research now.

Good try on attempting to belittle my education. It has gotten me an internship with NASA and IBM, and interviews for a job after I graduate this may with Microsoft, JP Morgans, and IBM. But I will allow you to get back to your average life with most likely a run of the mill communications or business management degree, or maybe none at all.
Good day sir.
