The month of December has come and gone, taking 2010 with it. Some say good riddance, some look back fondly, but no matter how you slice it, that puppy’s behind us and we’re all moving forward to 2011. For the team here at MMORPG.com, we’ve just got one tiny loose thread to tie up before we officially start the new year: We have to announce the winners of the 2010 MMORPG.com Reader’s Choice Awards! Today we feature the 2010 Game of the Year.
This year, our categories were: Game of the Year, New Game of the Year, Most Innovative, Most Improved, Best F2P, Favorite Company, Biggest News Story, Most Anticipated, and the newest, and most dubious, addition to our prizes, Biggest Disappointment.

Not a very impressive feat considering how dry of a year 2010 was, but nonetheless, congratulations to CCP yet again.
"Mr. Rothstein, your people never will understand... the way it works out here. You're all just our guests. But you act like you're at home. Let me tell you something, partner. You ain't home. But that's where we're gonna send you if it harelips the governor." - Pat Webb
Well considering they fixed the huge fleet battle lag that plauged them earlier in the year and added more things to try it's no wonder they got it.
Its the only game out there that is a truly enjoyable experience
Well done Eve.
Wow that just shows how pathetic online gameig was in 2010.
Since every game on the MMORPG site was available, who won the award had nothing to do with the dearth of new abd failed games of 2010.
WOW and its legion of several million subscribers was avilable. All of the F2P titles were available. I think the win says more about how good and complete a game EVE is and how well it sits in its niche rather than how weak 2010 was for new games.
Gaming since Avalon Hill was making board games.
Played SWG, EVE, Fallen Earth, LOTRO, Rift, Vanguard, WoW, SWTOR, TSW, Tera
Tried Aoc, Aion, EQII, RoM, Vindictus, Darkfail, DDO, GW, PotBS
Umm, it was a poll, on the internet.
'Nuff said.
Gratz to the playerbase mobilizers!
Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.
Well done to EVE and CCP.
Must say well done to Football Superstars also a game that not too disimilar to the winner has started slow and steady but seen great gradual growth.
Oh I forgot to ask Badger how many accounts did you create to get SWG 4%
I'm only joking
Well as has been said, it was hardly an impressive year but well done CCP - ovbiously a company heading in the right direction.
Wow....the spreadsheet with screensaver game won...
Congrats CCP. Your game is garbage but good job impressing the loudest voices here.
Um it about online gaming. so yeah, internet survey does make sense dont it? Personally I play a couple of games, (yes, EVE being one) and I agree that 2010 was a bad year for new games, but personally I dont think was a bad one for games that already existed and they way they improved.
One man's garbage is another man's prize.
oh woot 3 sandbox mmo in the top ten. Niiiiice. Congrats to CCP!
EVE is one of the most successful mmorpgs in the west. It's also the best game that many of us have had the pleasure of enjoying within the genre.
Sorry the game somehow burned you in the wrong way, but if you care about this genre, you wouldn't be labelling great games as "garbage". You don't have to like it to appreciate or respect it.

Playing: Rift, LotRO
Waiting on: GW2, BP

I don't even play Eve and I voted for it. LOL
This is hilarious.
Counting down to the :rageposts: from the likes of Zorndorf, Choukdfghkjhg & co. Those will easily be the best part of these awards.
For the record: no way did EVE deserve GoTY this year. Or I dunno, maybe it did. If so the rest of the MMO industry should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves. EVE is still a fine game in its way, and it still does a hell of a lot of things much better than its competitors, but it's not really better than it was this time last year. And it still does a hell of a lot of things much worse than it's competitors too. The last two expansions have not increased the fun and enjoyment of the players in any significant way; the list of things it does better has not increased; the list of things it does worse has not decreased.
Oh wait, I forgot: it's about to get the best character creator.
CCP tell us that this is because they've been working on their "Corification" project as well as the cross-game Carbon thing - lots of "behind the scenes" stuff that will bear the fruits of :awesome: in due time. Maybe that's true. Save the awards till then.
Give me liberty or give me lasers
The fact that EvE won this title, again, on this site is unsurprising. I guess with EvE's gameplay, the playerbase has plenty of time to come vote!
Only teasing...
Sort of.
"I don't even play Eve and I voted for it. LOL"
There's some insight right there into how much meaning should be attached to this award.
Um... how did Star Wars Galaxies end up in fifth place? Is there resurgence in this title? I was under the impression that the game has been slowly dying ever since the NGE surprise switcheroo years ago. I thought it was down in population to the point where it's expected to be cancelled.
I'm really curious to hear from those that know more about it than I. Where is this love coming from, and should I direct my attention back to this title again?
How dare you suggest that an open-vote internet poll might be in any way less than completely meaningful.
Go to your room and think about what you just did, young lady.
Give me liberty or give me lasers
Heh, you all should realize EVE players fuel their spaceships with internet whiners tears.
Eve is a solid title for strategy but as far as action goes you may as well be trying to sell Madden 2050 to an mmo player.
The whole poll is a fluke as obviously the people that still play and love WoW (I bet there's a few) don't seem to read or vote here when I've long considered mmorpg.com a haven somewhat for WoW haters. I bet if you googled and dug really deep you could probably find some other site dedicated to WoW.. maybe even 2. Everyone here knows if Blizzard didn't have the policy of only linking sites they're affiliated with in their launcher or main site that WoW would absolutely crush this poll.
If Blizzard HAD motivated their player base to do such a thing this thread would be full of all you saying it was BS cheating on Blizzard's part for doing so.
TLDR: Blizzard doesn't care about mmorpg.com cause they're busy counting their money and coding the same quests they fed you in 2004 all over again and telling the sheep it's new content.
I only see Rift as being likely to make me cancel my WoW, STO, and Eve accounts. It's pretty sad I'm playing STO while I wait for another Rift beta weekend instead of playing Cataclysm's "new content".
