Just because one party makes it easy to commit a crime, does not mean committing the crime is acceptable. It's still a crime. Would you kill someone because they won't fight back?
If the ineffective security team are the true villains, then why punish the innocent users? To truly be lauded as a hero, the hacker would have to cause harm to the villainous company, while giving benefits to the users. Rather, this hacker has compromised the security and safety of innocent people, using that act as leverage for getting his way.
The hacker is being selfish, in every sense of the word. There is no heroism in blackmail, extortion, and harming innocent people.
Has the hacker used someone's information to buy himself a BMX bike yet?
I don't think he's after a BMX bike... he's upset with the service of a company, and he is using intimidation to force the company to operate the way he wants. With or without monetary gain, he has used intimidation to get what he wants. At the risk of compromising innocent people's personal security, no less.
Just like Robin of Loxley you could say. If such myths are to be considered. Would you say?
Robin Hood is a heroic outlaw in English folklore. A highly skilled archer and swordsman, he is known for "robbing from the rich and giving to the poor," assisted by a group of fellow outlaws known as his "Merry Men." - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robin_Hood
How has the hacker - in any way - given to the poor? He hasn't. In fact, he stole from the poor and is using what he stole as a bargaining chip for his own demands.
Using his temporary position of power to achieve his own goals, he more closely represents a tyrant.
So in his demands you surmised that he wishes for better customer service for just himself?

yes that's exactly what I'm saying.
Despite your lunacy the King is simply trying to make a point, Robin Hood hurt people. He actually harmed people. This guy hasn't yet as far as anyone knowns. (Really there's a question to be asked of the whole story.) Demonizing him so quickly is just as parse as praising his actions prematurely.
The King declares you all mad, but what does that make of he who sits at the head of the table?

Let's put it this way, he purports to be helping the player base by stealing their information in order to force the game company to accede to his demands which are to treat the playerbase better, better customer service, etc. If they don't capitulate he will release the information of the people he is helping.

Even if it is all true, I still do not care if my account there is at risk. He can have it and everything on it for all I care, because you see the smart thing to do would have been quit long ago instead of hoping for change in a greedy f2p company, it was plain to see they were only getting worse as time went on.
To think holding the entire community hostage would matter to such a company shows how delusional this person really is, they havn't cared for their customers in the past and I don't see it changing due to some threats that only affect their customers and not them, robinhood my ass, if this person is for real he's basically stealing from the poor to give to the poor, now that makes sense..

Is it something like: "serve me better or I'll destroy other players"? or "if I'll remain alone player of this game, will you be able to provide me personalized support"? Sounds funny to me.
Why not changing all by blackmailing about destroying game? or game running company?
Beside I can understand hacker's frustration as for my 20 mails to support, I've received like 7 auto answers & nothing else.
Some of f2p game have not even right to exist IMO, I'm for block them, forbid them at USA; European markets, but I'm far from idea that publish client's base will help to sort it out, beside it very offencive for other players.
try before buy, even if it's a game to avoid bad surprises. Worst surprises for me: Aion, GW2
They've pretty much proved that Robin Hood was maybe an exagerated story then an actual person at best...
But yeah, somehow it doesn't bother me. His intentions weren't insanely evil and he could have done a lot worse then threaten them for the bad customer support and lazyness.
Gold spammers every 4 inches that are NEVER removed anyone?
I didn't hate the game, but the minor things including customer support and their negligence really helped add up.
Everyone says this guy is a criminal. Of course he is, but...
Temting someone to steal is not ok to say the least. I've written some addons for RoM at the time I was playing that crap. I've seen a couple of holes there that can be used to capture account data, but I didn't take advantage of it.
And yeah, my account got hacked and I lost about 180 milion gold that way, but I couldn't care less. I left the game some time ago for a couple of reasons:
I know, even support, if you even want to call it that way, like Frogster is giving to it's paying customers is not criminal, but it should be.
I know that bugs, even if there are so many as in RoM, are not criminal, but they should be in some cases.
Frogster and their Fanboys always use the excuse that RoM is a free game. What they all do not see is that if there were no paying customers, there would be no RoM. And a customer that pays the same amount of real money in half a year that's worth five years of playing WoW, doesn't want to hear that it's free. He want's support, and not these arrogant and incompetent answers (if any at all) they get from Frogster.
Frogster scams it's customers to the extreme sometimes. RoM players should remember the scam with the old and the new "bind lifter". If that's not a scam it's at least deliberate fraud.
The worst of it: They KNEW for a long time that RoM has lots of security holes. Someone even stole their whole account database. What did they do? Did they warn the users about the risk? I know it would have cost reputation, but letting the users know so that they can change their password would at least had given them a little trust that Frogster is at least honest, but they're so far from honest as Earth from the sun.
And I hope they knew, because if they're even so incompetent that they didn't even take notice of that...
What they have now is a disaster.
However, I understand this hacker somehow. This is kind of a desperate action.
But I guess that my consequence I took of my RoM/Frogster experience is better...
I'd NEVER touch anything from this company ever again. I tell all of my friends and collegues that want to hear it about my experience with Frogster. And I tell it even twice to everyone that doesn't want to hear it.

Yeah, Robin Hood first appeared in a song in middle 14th century, it could of course have some base in a real person but take a randomn song about someone today, there is a lot larger chance it is about a fictional character.
But, yes I agree. RoM and other F2P games should get rid of goldspammers. I can't see why they just don't add gold to their official shop instead, they sell most other importnat things and that would kill off goldselling for good, no one would buy gold from a suspicious person when you can buy it from the gamestore instead.

Quite old, but never the less true: Fool me once, shame on you! Fool me twice, shame on me!
Agree at 100%, me too, I keep telling / posting truth about RoM and Frogster everywhere I can. Hope one day they will be forbidden in USA / European market, as well as some other scams game companies.

While i cannot blame Frogster 100% for the bugs and poorly implemented patches, Alot of it was Runewakers fault. What i can blame them for is how ridiculous the cash shop was, and how they treated their customers for the longest time. They could have done more of an effort to coordinate with the community and really pressure the developer to fix major issues that have been around since beta. Don't even get me started with Castle Siege.
Really, i cant say i agree with someone commiting a criminal act in order to get the communities voice heard, but i cant say i feel sorry for frogster that this happened. The only way to deal with a greedy company that doesn't care about their community is to hit them where it hurts, their wallet. When they realize that they aren't making their quotas. They'll have to do 1 of 2 things, Either Fix the game and make the playerbase happy again, or shut down. I know there are some people who enjoy the game, and maybe i am taking a narrow-minded view as a "hardcore" player and some casual players do not care about reaching end-game and how royally fucked up that content is right now. Trust me, i would love to be able to play RoM again without cringing at the lackluster and buggy game-play that chapter 3 brought. I'll watch the game for the release of chapter 4, i cant say that i expect them to turn around.

You can blame Frogster for the poor quality too. Frogster is the publisher, Runewaker developed the game. This means that Frogster earns the money and a good part of it goes to Runewaker. Frogster is in a position to hold back the money for Runewaker if the quality of what they deliver is inadequate. You know, the best way to put preasure on someone is by holding back money Since it doesn't seem to anyone that Frogster puts this preasure on Runewaker, the quality of the game will stay poor and customers get angry. In fact, from what I've seen in the past, Frogster couldn't care less, as long as there are enough lemmings out there still investing their hard earned money into the game.
As I pointed out in my original post... I also cannot agree with whe way how the hacker did it. On the other hand, I cannot think of a pulbisher that deserved it more than Frogster.
The problem here is that too many people just look at the advertisings. If more people would look to pages like this one, they'd be warned.
At least I learned one thing from RoM: Looking for alternatives, I bumped into Shaiya. But before I even downloaded the client, I looked around in the forum. Guess what? I didn't download it
Not that the quality is as poor as RoM, but it's still bad. And the item shop is about as expensive as RoM's

So I ended up with Rift...
*starts slow clap*
Good, RoM has terrible to no customer service. Although, this won't do anything to change it. It's just nice to see all the RoM fanboys cry over this.
Also, can they even sue him or whatever if Frogster is located in another country?
