There's been a lot of news lately about that -other- super hero MMO but that doesn't mean that big things aren't happening at Paragon Studios and with the team behind City of Heroes. MMORPG.com Industry Relations Manager Garrett Fuller recently had the opportunity to check in with CoH Producer Nate Birkholz to find out what's new with City of Heroes. Check it out and then be sure to comment below!
Do you find the Superhero genre limiting? In terms of setting, characters, good vs. evil?
The superhero genre is remarkably broad. It incorporates science fiction, horror, fantasy, history, military, action, adventure… Even a little romance and a healthy dose of sex. We’ve told stories about alien invasions, secret societies, unrequited love, magical talismans, Orwellian dystopias, and scientific hubris. We’ve let players become paragons of truth and justice, infamous miscreants, as well as epitomes of fallen virtue or unlikely redemption. We have drawn lines in black and white and filled between those lines in endless shades of gray. So I’d say we haven’t found the limits yet.

Would have loved to get more specific information. However, things come when they come. This has been my favorite MMO and will likely remain so for some time. I think it has one of he best toolsets and community if you actually like to Role Play in your MMO. Thanks for the interview, even if it was more of a flavor piece.
After seven years and still no polearms/spears. I mean come on. Its been requested since day one.
On Polearms, from http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showpost.php?p=3432355&postcount=3
FYI, staffs/polearms would be about the most time consuming thing that we could make at this point. There are no weapon modes/stances that would be appropriate for it, so it would require a whole battalion of core animations, movement, hit reactions, variations of ninja run, flight, etc etc. More, it would require unique sets of IK driven animations for female and huge models. There's no way we could utilize skeletal re-targeting for them.
I'm hard pressed to think of anything that would take more time to do...unless we did staffs as part of a new Mastermind primary along octopus henchmen who ride around on winged horses.

I'm starting to notice these questions are more generic around the industry, wish you guys would come up with more unique questions. Still good interview but not all that informative.
That wasn't terribly enlightening. I feel like I read a long advertisement.
The dude who said that got fired.

Dude showed up at work one day and the boss told him to clean out his desk. Personally I think he got fired since his two favorite words are can't and won't.
Either way he is an ex employee, people should let his old quotes go, kinda like what NCsoft did to him.
OMG how many times are they going to do the same interview.
I was thinking the same thing. Personally I love this game, but the same tired old interviews are killing me. Now if they actually let something good slip instead of the same old "wait and see" crap, then I would be impressed. Unfortunately, the game seems to be going the same "wait and see" direction, without a whole lot of delivered material. Maybe that is just my perception, but there it is.
