Let's say, there is a strong MMORPG developer, who can create the best MMORPG of all times.
Let's say, this developer will tell us: "We can make game using any known non-MMO game's universe".
Let's say, this developer will ask us: "Wich non-MMO games' universes will you choose for us to make the perfect MMO?".
Yes, this is a game and its rules are simple:
So, my list is:
Comments
1. Donkey Kong 64 (perfect setting and world)
2. Star Raiders (those who have played it 30 years ago will know what I am talking about)
3. Clue (solving murder cases in an MMORPG setting) (edited the last one).
1. Starcraft
2. Diablo
3. Unreal Tournament
1. Planescape: Torment
2. Starcraft
3. Legend of Zelda
This sucks that I have to narrow it down to 3. So I'm just gonna list all the RPGs I've loved growing up that are deep enough and big enough WORLD wise to make a decent MMORPG.
Zork!, Alpha Centauri, Pools of Radiance (technically this means a Forgotten Realms MMO, but PoR was my first foray into this IP), Arcanum, Wizardry, Bard's Tale, Dragon Warrior(the US versions 1-4 not the modern kiddyized versions past 4), Elder Scrolls, Borderlands, Legend of Dragoon, Secret of Mana, Faxanadu, Willow, Sins of a Solar Empire, Wing Commander.
I'll stop there but I'm sure I'm missing a few, played so many games over the years, hard to remember them all.
1) Diablo
2) The Elder Scrolls
3) Borderlands
"Censorship is never over for those who have experienced it. It is a brand on the imagination that affects the individual who has suffered it, forever." - Noam Chomsky
1. Freelancer (To be a superior version of Earth & Beyond)
2. Mass Effect Franchise
3. KOTOR (But that's actually happening (YAY!)
TwitchTV: iNeoki
1) Wizardry
2) Bards Tale
3) Might and Magic
the 3 greatest RPG series of all times
Freelancer
The Elder Scrolls
Zelda
1. Starcraft
2. Mass Effect
3. Left 4 Dead
Starcraft wins first to me because of the capability for multifaction warfare out the door. Even if you're restricted to playing terran, you still have clans within that rebel against dominion or otherwise, so you'd have no excuse for at least a three way conflict.
Mass Effect because, well, it's a well developed sci-fi universe with a good balance between the more traditional gun toting and the more mystic energy field flinging. Multiple potential humanoid races and factions and an overall pretty appealing aesthetic design makes for a desirable title conversion.
Left 4 Dead lacks the same depth of universe or lore that ME and SC have, but this one is more about the idea and the implementation. Left 4 Dead proved it's game play well, and extending that to a more free-form open world format just sounds like it'd be fun.

"The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge." - Daniel J. Boorstin
1) Borderlands
2)Golden Sun
3)Dragon Quest (Afraid Squenix might do another FFXIV with this)
1) Dragon Age Origins;
2) Lords of Magic (old 1998 game with various races and entities under opposing factions of life, death, order, chaos, air, earth, fire, water);
3) Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri
1: Arcanum Of Steamworks And magick Obscura
2: Call of Cthulhu
3: Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines
1.Star Ocean - if the combat is done similar to the rpgs, and have multiple planets and races. I think I could have very long term fun playing it.
2.Record of Lodoss War - sure it's a fantasy, but it was still the main reason I even started watching anime. The right to the MMO were bought recently, so, may see it in 5? years.
3.Disgaea - The silliness and randomness would make for an entertaining MMO.
Woulda added World of darkness, but WoD is being made. Unfortunately, with just vampires though. So I'd love to see some werewolf, mage, and changeling action added to WoD.
1.Might and Magic
2.The Elders Scrolls
3.Diablo

Awesome choice of Alpha Centauri. LOVED that game and the factions alone would have tons of possibilities with PVP and classes. This NEEDS to get made nowa!
