I wanted to open a discussion and get other viewpoints in here.. Was watching a friend beta TERA today. Is it just me or does TERA look, feel and play like Aion 2.0?
@OP: How'd you watch your friend beta TERA when the beta has been over since the 22nd here? Smelling some bullshit there.
Anyway, Combat isnt even remotely slightly like Aion. The graphics are also significantly better than Aion's, although the art style is similar.
But why does that matter? Can anyone here objectively and non-biasedly explain why Aion was a bad game? Its very clear that it was a bad game, but I'd like the haters to explain what made it so. Because it sure wasnt the look/feel/combat. It was the grind and the mechanics. So why does this game 'looking like Aion' (which was the most beautiful game out at the time), automatically make it bad? Expecially when the rest of the game (the mechanics) is different.
Half the people working on TERA are former NCsoft employees it is not a stretch at all to say they will be very similar.
They were former NCsoft employees before Aion was in production. The comparison to Lineage2 is much more warranted than Aion.

They do have some people from NCsoft, and Arenanet, Bioware, Microsoft, Wiz of the coast, and so on. That is how it works, people move around from project to project. Arenanets publisher is NCsoft so does that make GW2 similar to Aion? of course not....
To the OP,
Tera plays nothing like aion, If you had played aion or really watched your friend play tera you would have figured that out. Tera plays like an action game and aion does not.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
They look similar yes but how can a point and click game play like an action combat (aiming) game? All korean games look the same. I for one love the graphics and look of the game. Yeah the girls wearing almost nothing and the little animal like humanoids running around are annoying but I'll feel that much better kicking their ass. Curious why people who have no plans to play a game because it looks like another are even bothering to post about it? Yeah Aion sucked but a few of us are really hoping Tera wont be another Aion.
There was a article a couple months back stating that the Asia client of the game has less quests and more grind... thats the beta youre playing. The North America game client will have more quests and more xp gain thus less grinding.
I hope its not Aion 2.0 or I won't play, I could care less about grind in games. What "korean mmos" usually lack are depth.
I have been seeing alot of western games lately that lack depth. Hopefully Tera will have alot more depth than what Rift has to offer.

really? today? you sure? lol
The open beta is closed, it is since 22... haters gona hate.
Anyway Tera is like any other MMO in the market, just with better grapichs and better combat system, just that, you will level doing useless task, you will have battlegrounds, scenarios, warfronts or whatever you wanna call them and you will have instanced and open dungeons to crawl, atleast figthing group content is very fun because some nasty movements the mobs do.
And talking about depth... yeah sure AoC, WAR and the newcoming Rift have tons of depth lol, the last released game with some depth in it was Vanguard and the game unfortunately was lacking in more important parts than depth.

That is my prediction. Everyone keeps saying ohhhhh En Masse will make sure it is westernized!!!!
Not gonna happen.
Do you even know what westernize means? All it incompasses is translating the language, giving the game relevance to our country and fitting the western gameplay style. Its not just making the game ezmode for Americans.

you still don't quite grasp the concept do you. It's not the amount of skills you use.

Level 23, and he used a total of 3 moves to kill those mobs, whoopey doo
This all new super duper combat system doesn't quite do it for me.
Can't fault the graphics though.
So? My 80 shaman in WoW used 3 moves to kill mobs too. Flame Shock, Lava Burst, Lightning Bolt x infinity. At 23, it was just better to use Lightning Bolt over and over and over.
Doesnt mean its the full extent of its abilities, nor is that the extent of the Berserker's abilities.

Thought the same thing.

The only thing I've liked so far is the character creation.
The only way I could compare Aion and TERA is that they're both Eastern MMORPGS.
Half the people working on TERA are former NCsoft employees it is not a stretch at all to say they will be very similar.
This again?
TERA being westernized is debatable
Graphicly, TERA is better assuming you have the hardware to crank it up to the max.
Aion plays more like WoW or any other "point and click" combat system. As far as I can tell, the only game that plays anything like TERA is Vindictus.
But remember, no all Korean games are alike. If so, then it's safe to assume all North-American games are like WoW. Or all Eurpean MMOs are like AoC.

Wish I could beta test it, but they are nowhere near that milestone for their western market yet.
Massive insult to TERA by the OP...
Well, feels as in artistic direction maybe. Plays though most probably not.
TERA = The Exiled Realm of Arborea
Aion 2.0 released last year.
Technicly its more like Lineage 3

another aion noooooooooooooo!!!!
if thats the case.... rip tera

Exactly, it's that the player matters in this game and not the character...Goggy just doesn't get it and probably never will.

Its probably because the original coding for tera was the linage 3 code.
Which is why it might feel and resemble aion or lineage.
