Few questions about CoH

Is the game open or instanced world? Like in guild wars, have to be grouped with other players to actually see them outside of cities.
Does CoH have RP or RP-PVP servers?
Does the game have a decent player base? Or is trade and the other channels basically dead 24/7?

It's heavily, although not exclusively instanced.
The unofficial CoH RP server is Virtue. It flucutates with Freedom for the top server population. Freedom is the unofficial PvP server now -- the pvp'ers used to use the test server (copying their toons over from respective servers), but duing dec 2009-jan 2010 there were free server transfers and so they migrated from all over to Freedom since it is, again, one of the top 2 populated servers.
The game has a thriving playerbase. There really isn't a a trade channel, the consignment house is used, except for the multi-billion inf enhancements, which people then just advertise on the ofrums or in broadcast, typically.
Give the game a go -- there is a free trial that will let you access the game up to level 14. There are some restrictions on the trial account, but it will give you a good feel for the game and the community.
