    LOL!!!

Well for now I'd rather go with Rift polished animations than let's say TOR walking and running ones. Also strangely in TOR the characters have bigger and more spiky shoulder pads than in RIFT. Combat in TOR looks interesting but not that much so awesome. And at least in RIFT the clothes textures don't feel like plastic models. They are even better than AoC ones.

Combat isn't that bad, granted it took me to lvl 15 - mainly because I was running around like a madman attacking every rift invasion, tear, attack, etc. to understand my mage class...

building up energy overall to unleash stronger attacks, building up electrical damage so that the frost/water damage did extra damage - once I got into the combat and quite possibly awsome game design I was flying higher than any kite you kids have flown!

Take some time to actually play the game instead of jumping foaming at the mouth, ranting and raving like pestillent brats to MMO forums, trust me, the game is fun, polished, and quite possibly going to be the best MMO on the market, I mean seriously what MMO has everyone thinking a whole new era of gameplay is going to arrive?

GW2? Yeah it looks good, but has anyone played it yet? Not majorly, ergo it will be ANOTHER dissapointment waiting along the road (seriously every class can heal and rezz - bad times) - SWTOR? Noone has played this majorly either - surprise, ergo it shall follow the same paths of quest linearity and combat generic methods.

Nowadays we have to expect that methods, ideas, stories, etc. are going to be refiltered and redone - get over it, it's been done for decades and getting the cream of the crop is better than sitting waiting for a mythological beast to come and change the world. ;)

Myself, I'm enjoying the beta a lot, and my new comp hasn't arrived so I'm playing it in low-render (i.e. looks like crap) mode. It feels like they took the best ideas from a few games and brought them together. It's a bit of let down from their marketing about how everything was going to be new and unique and different, but it's also a lot of fun. I haven't seen this many class customization options since pre-NGE SWG. You can't mix and match between the classes, but you can customize your classes in a ton of different ways. The PvP is fun and the combat system is easy to grasp, in part because yes it has been done before. At the same time, it's nice to have a combat system that is intuitive and the game plays very smoothly and I've only noticed one bug so far in my first beta run. I'm looking forward to playing this game for awhile.

I personally am having a great time in beta I like how you can mix and match classes to your style of game  play. meeting another chr identical to you should be near impossible.

Can't wait to check this game out.

It looks like WAR + WoW in a lot of ways.  Again, that's just from the video that I've watched so far (which hasn't been a lot) and from what others are saying.

    Again, I can't wait.

Of all the games at PAX , Tor was by far the most uninspiring when it came to combat IMO.  I'm not joking it was that bad but then again it was an early build.

Its simply not fun. What a shame.

This was my complaint as well, even though theres alot of positives about the game, the powers seem the same, if they could fix that.....

If you don't care about the most optimal build this might be the case, but most likely about the whole player base will use 1-2 builds for any given arch type.

Still enjoying it tonight with a different class and playing the good faction. I still haven't done an instance yet but I have done a few black garden PvP instances. The game has a lot of potential. It could use some more polish, particularly in the animations and a little more variety in the character creation, but so far in this beta there is nothing that cannot be improved in time.

Some games I've tried had obvious things that I just could not get past- games where they have too many spread out starter areas (WAR), or games that were made for controllers rather than keyboard and mouse (FFXI) but so far in Rift I've seen no core mechanic type items that they cannot improve in patches or add into expansions, depending on what the devs focus on. As we saw with the Cataclysm expansion classes can be changed so if too many souls that play too similarly (or are too similar), it's not something that cannot be fixed.

This game hasn't even been released yet, bear that in mind. It has a lot of potential.

It completely depends on how classes and abilities are changed once classes are rebalanced (it always, always happens in MMOs and even sooner in those with PvP)- if Trion puts certain necessary buffs and debuffs far enough down the soul trees then I can see 1-2 builds plus a 3rd PvP build (at least) for each soul.

For me I'm torn, I really love Rift so far being in the beta which sucks because I'm planning on playing SWTOR. Rift is probably the must enjoyment I've had out of a fantasy themed mmorpg since vangaurd and it even reminds me some of VG minus all the bugs. Rift really is the best of other mmorpgs combined.

Poor combat? please.. you might as well say to don't like mmorpgs to begin with.

I have have spent plenty of time playing rift. Leveled a marksman/assassin/riftstalker till lvl 20. You can't blame me for not having fun with Rift's combat.I just didn't like it.You might love it but some others don't.That's why a lot of people are getting excited of gw2 and tera combat system. You on the other hand might not like the tera combat system, but i had a blast for one week in its korean beta.

I'm another person that is disappointed in Rift. It's not terrible, it just feels bland.   Graphics are mediocre, and I don't find the multiple talent tree system to be like I'd hoped, feeling inferior to GW secondary profession system imo.  The rifts are interesting because they're new but I don't know how long that will last. The game keeps you busy at least, but it just doesn't excel at being fun.

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.

Just got done with beta5 and i must say Rift is looking to be the new Power House. Trion has a real gem here and can't wait till launch!!!!

Combat at lvl30 is very fluid and smooth if anyone has a problem with it still needs to go back to there twitch based game.

Best MMORPG to have come out in a very long time, can't wait for launch !!!!

I feel the combat is par for the course... But I am enjoying the HELL out of this game, and so far, the only "bug" I have found is a conflict with the game and my video card which makes the game freeze up while my card stops working. Have not been able to find a solution to this problem, but I am sure it is because I am running an older card.

That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!

Play with your settings a little like turn off shadows etc, might help out a bit if you have a lower end card. I have a 250gts and the game runs so smooth on high settings and 2xAA, i get about 40-45 fps and with 150+ players and 50 or so mobs it drops down to about 25-30fps but still looks and feels really nice...

I for one am having a blast.   I absolutely love my chloromancer/lock/archon.   And I'm learning to like my nightblade/bard/assasin.   The graphics are beautiful, the community is fairly stable and polite.   Sunrest server is really really amazing.   Reminds me of my first Daoc server.  I really am excited for the release.  Preordered and 6month script already paid.

The game definitely has a lot of potential but they need to upgrade those animations and make the combat a little more responsive.

The melee animations were simply awful. I couldn't bring myself to keep playing my melee char which was my first one. I've since done a couple of rangers and the bow auto attacks were alright, but the activated skills all had some cheap little flame addition that left something to be desired.

It seems like it should have a good launch so we'll see where the game goes. Hopefully they deliver!

The best combat animations you only find in the old SWG, the melee combat rule them all!

Why didn't they copy that! Why!
