Quite a few low post accounts being ressurected to support Rift in one sentence statements I see.
I have more than you, does that mean that because I have more post that my voice has more relevance than yours. Also, I have seen my share of low post count posters that are trolling these forums as well. So I do not think your comment is exactly all that accurate.
One of the things I am most intrigued by is the PvP balancing.
According to some dev posts, the souls will not be balanced at all around PvP, just the four PvP souls. The difference being the PvP souls are entirely PvP desirable abilities, and carry a heavy penalty in PvE content. Abilities such as CC breaks, increased damage against players, "Tanking" 25% of the damage done to target ally by other players (ala WAR), and many others. A similiar type of balancing system was implemented in WoW in the mastery system, giving Blizzard a simple way to balance PvE performance by balancing mastery stats.
Regarding the Soul system as a whole.. It's quite intriguing. I'm a huge fan of character customization, and after playing WoW for a few years, I've been craving an MMO with a good amount of customization.. as everyone who has tried it knows, WoW has extremely small amounts of customization. The OP said that WoW has it's classes (10, total) with 3 talent trees each. That's 30 seperate trees. Rift has 9 souls per calling, with there being 4 callings total. You pick 3 souls per "Role" and can unlock more Roles later.
Taking away the PvP Soul for each calling, that makes 8 souls per calling. This gives you more than 300 combinations of souls per role for each calling. 500 if you include the PvP soul. That's the customization I like. Are all of them amazingly synergistic with one another? Doubtful. But it's there.
The role system is the "Dual Talent Specialization" of Rift, and allows you to pick another combination of 3 Souls to switch to. This will allow you to, as a Cleric for example, have a pure DPS solo spec (Shaman/Druid/Justicar), a pve healing spec, pvp healing spec, pve tanking spec (using Justicar), etc, etc.
Is Rift as a whole entirely unique? Hell no. I agree with the OP though that it is a good MMO that, like WoW, has taken great aspects from other MMOs and merged them into a well made product. Which surprises me from such a new company, and like other new companies that are producing their first MMO, they seem to have a grasp of what the community wants to see changed and are making those changes quickly. Ugly animations are an example.

LOL, from where I sit you'd be one of those low post counts. OP was honest and probably dead on the money, just a matter of what a person is looking for I suppose.

Clone this clone that bottom line is Rift is the best MMORPG on the market right now. Play it or not you can't deny a polished and fluid game that at it's core is just pure fun..

And while you notice that, I notice that you have made more than one post, in more than one thread, to make certain to belittle the game you say you don't like. Are you on some sort of crusade or something? You have stated your piece about that game more often than not and now you are telling another person how they feel about the game when they say they don't want to continue the beta? So from where I sit...you're not in much position to judge anyone despite their 'low post count'.
Zone Events are ground breaking, they are very, very difficult, take the entire zone working together, and still fail the majority of the time. They are not just public quests, like the RIFTs are.
Scarlet Gorge, PVP is a blast. Fighting during events, and pvping while we go.
and also I leveled from 12-29 without doing 1 single quest.
so its not linear, also you dont have to finish 1 quest area to move to the next, there are multiple spots you can level along the way. You dont have to QUEST at all.
so replayability will always be different, my first Char will probably do questing, since thats the best way to acquire cash, my 2nd toon will not do a single quest after 12, and i get my soul recall and first sigil
