I thought the same too. In two beta events I've played through the sub 20 content Atleast three times each on each side. One would assume that I would be bored by now but I find the overall experience so well put together that I look forward to running through I a few more times as launch. Also even though I'm using the character I plan on leveling first he doesn't have one of my normal mmo names and isnt the race or faction I plan on playing at release so that helps.
Seriously? The one track per faction linear path isnt getting old for you yet?
And it isnt even a unique setting, the whole farmland/beach/graveyard setting is so tired, i just want to zone out for it all and, i dunno, awake in some interesting surroundings.
Personally im debating whether or not to participate in the next beta, if i decide to buy, just so it doesnt get stale on me. I figure im at least going to roll two characters, though the same exact settings, quest lines, and experiences.
Hell even the rifts started to get monotonous....sure they look cool, but its all the same, zerg tank n spank, the kill the boss, thats it, nothing more to them. And the rewards for the rift completion....meh. I did get an item that turned me into a bat for 30min, was interesting, i couldnt use any skills or remove the effect, and then i lost it 3min into the effect from 4 falling damage on some tiny hill...
For me, if i buy, it will be for the class diversity and versatility, exploring the classes was the most exciting part, despite how dissapointing the mage class turned out to be overall.
Understood. But got to atleast be thankful that Trion listens and is more responsive to Player Feedback then Blizzard, Sony, Tribune, and many other companies with Triple A MMO Titles.
How far this game came from Beta1 to Beta5 is a huge leap, and it will only get better this last month and into release.

Keep in mind i've been playing Eve almost exclusively for over 4 years.
With the exception of two months in WAR and three in Lotro I have not been exposed to the same old themepark leveling experience over and over that you guys go through every couple months due to game hopping.
I took peoples advice and stayed away because i knew after almost three years in WoW if i played a Themepark right away it would feel like i was doing it all over again.
Now maybe you could understand why im finding Rift fun... because to me its not old and tired.
For me expecting an MMO to deliver everything it has to offer in an hour is absurd. No one who realistically expects that should be even playing MMOs in my opinion, no less reporting on them as a 'professional.'
I didn't bother to quote the individual who made that post from Massively because frankly I have no interest in getting in another flame war with someone who just wants to argue that his opinion is right.
OP- glad you are finding what so many others that like Rift have been saying all along. As more people get to experience that game for a longer time, the more will defend the game. It's already happening in these forums as more are experiencing it for themselves.
Notice how many that dislike the game tend to be the same people. While those that generally like the game tend to be from different people. The Trolls are now getting out numbered and for Rift, that's a very, very good thing.
I am done with the beta events. Do not want to spoil to much for launch. Got my collecters edition preprdered and ready for the 24th. Until then I will play EVE and be waiting on the 24th with much anticipation.

For how much i would like to continue help testing and enjoying myself in RIFT i just don't want to spoil anymore of the game itself. I have played enough to get me hooked and enough to know that it will be a game i will continue playing till SWTOR comes out - maybe both, depending on SWTOR.
But i will now wait and play a few time filler games up until the games launch! What mind you is my lucky easy line on my roster at work - 3 days off, 1 day on and 3 days off again . Hmm maybe i could organize someone to do a shift swap for the night i am on so i have 6 days hmm ;D.
I hate how the rift forum gets spammed by people that tried the game in the lvl 1-9 brakket. and found it generic and linear.
Its a freaking tutorial and noobie zone. You are expecting end game gameplay right from the start is just silly.
The game had way more depth then anything seen in other mmo's lately. There are loads of ways to lvl up and sooo much to do.
People that say its linear shoud get there head out of there ass. Get on there mount. And start exploring! if you actualy new anything about rift. You would know that there are
a) Secret quests all over the place
b) achievments to be gained from lots of different things around the world
c) artifact hunting
d) and the biggest exitment of them all. Secret mini games and loot chests EVerywhere! i think i lost count how many purple items i found at lvl 20. From exploring and finding stuf. Even in the middle of nowhere like in the giant lake in the center or at the beaches. Or even in the huge mountains. Explorers can find wonderful things. and whats even nicer. These items scale with your lvl that you do them!
Pah... why did you have to get me all excited again about the exploring. Beta 5 is over.
I could hardly believe it when I started to climb a mountain range and I just kept on going. Roamed all over the top and had an awesome time.
And you know, I was surprised because I believed the stupid posters on these boards that played the game to level 10 and decided it was a closed world. Bah. That'll teach me.
After taking about 6 months from playing wow as i quit from getting hacked, i find rift refreshing. It's well polished for beta, the rifts themselves are really exciting always on your toes and looking out for random groups of mobs coming down the path. Me and afew of my old friends from EQ decided to come together to give rift a go and we all like it so much that we will be making a reunion on there. many of us have played all the mmos out there and to be frank, rift is like a breath of fresh air that some of us have been looking for for the last few years.

The linearity of quests in Rift is something that can be amended to some extend by adding more quest off the beaten track. But I do not think it will happen beyond what we have seen already before release. Of course, you can chose to not do any quest at all and take a "sandbox" approach of rift hunting, do only dungeons from level 18 onwards or only PvP. But the quests themselves are linear as hell.
Secret quests? What a weird name for delivering items you loot during your travels. The puzzles are fun though, but there is only one per zone afaik. I would not say they are everywhere. More fun are the hunting quests. Mainly because most of them cannot be soloed and give you a reason to team up. Oh, and in contrast to normal quests there is no hand holding for hunting quests. When people like them more of them will probably be included lateron.
Achievement are nice and give you something to do besides questing. I don't think there is any reward for them, but that is easily repaired.
With a few exceptions most collections are difficult to complete before you outlevel a zone, but maybe the AH will help. Trying to complete them all is a terrible grind, but some like that and nobody is forcing you to do it.
Rifts though are too plentful and become boring pretty fast, but you learn to evade them. Only footholds are a pain in the ass when you are questing and you need to clean them up to get a quest and clean the up again to delever quests and again to deliver follow-up quests and again and again. Really annoying.
Overall though Rift is a decent game. Not as good as I had hoped but there is a good chance you will like it and have fun playing it. But I see no reason to get over excited. You are just creating false expectations that way.

I'm glad for the OP and all the other positive posters that this game is what you have been looking for. I'm envious that your search is over! It's not for me but that's my personal choice and my search continues.
If we all liked/settled for the same thing then the world would not have much diversity. So in the end to each their own. Have fun in your next beta and with the launch. Hope all goes well.
Just because I'm not a fan of Rift, doesn't mean I want to see it crash and burn. It clearly has appeal to a certain demographic and at least its polished and working, which is not always the case with MMO launches.

I mean we have a few good games releasing toward the end of the year, why havent people moved on and went back to playing their old games waiting on the new ones?
My only assumption is that Rift is a good game, that it is well put together and they need to lie about the game because their pissed that other people are having a good time.
I've never, not through my time defending both Eve, Ryzom and Lotro on this forum have felt more attacked for liking a game than on this forum.

Let's put it this way. When you do all the quest lines from the quest hubs you are directed to there is nothing left to explore. Only the Scarlet Gorge is an exception to that. Although when you play both factions that is also true for Scarlet Gorge. You will have seen it all. Ok, with the exception with some very uneventful places.

Not for me.
With my cleric by the time i hit level to leave Freemarch i didnt see half of the zone.
Running Rifts/invasion/footholds, Dungeons & warfronts kinda level you quick.
I guess if you do nothing but quest exclusively you would cover a good section of the zone but why would you do that?
The reason you play this game is for the stuff outside the vanilla questing. Hell i got to level 20 with my Guard Chapion/Rift/para and hardly did any quests and not one bit of my acitivities felt repetitive.
I think someone needs to get off the quest train and look around.

I think you missed the point. The point was about how big the world is. It is not very big, but how to measure it. I gave a way to measure it; not a lecture on how to play it.

Freemarch alone is the size of any three wow zones excluding barrens. Thats fucking big dude. Who cares if the quests let you see the zone. each zone has like a thousand freaking quests i consider that a good use of available space. not a negative.
I dont care about the square footage of the zones or the same features drawn from other games all I care about is the more I played the more I wanted to play. I preordered and cant wait for launch.
I just want this game to start officially so I could kiss this forum goodbye and go back to just reading the news articles.

Thats pretty much true about EVERY MMO. After your first two characters you will end up seeing the same exact content with newer characters. Happened in EQ, EQ2, WoW, you name it.
Thing is there is a lot of hidden content in each of those games and the same holds true for Rift. The problem is people just don't want to have to find it, instead they want to be shown where it is by either having the game show them or by having sites like Thottbot, WoWhead, etc. Then they start complaining that there is nothing to explore...
There are 3 types of people in the world. 1.) Those who make things happen 2.) Those who watch things happen 3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
I miss my Pyro/Elem/Storm...I was rocking with that setup. I was involved in a couple of huge battles in eastern Freemarch (can't remember the town) and it was EPIC. I'll be pre-ordering for sure.
Can't wait to actually get in this game on release and see how my soul tree set up works out...
So far so good, but that is only at low levels. I got up to lvl 21 in the course of 2 beta's. I may have to tweak my souls a bit just to be viable in pvp, but we'll see how it goes.
Yea this game is definately worth the 50 dollars.. Not gonna get the CE , but the 50 dollar deal seems well worth it.
Actually have til Monday, and a week after that will be another 20% off deal, but any Fileplanet member gets the 15% off anytime regardless. But use the Redeem code: wetkitty
And you can have the Rift Collectors Edition for $50,

Seeing as we still have 20 levels unseen in beta AND there is that pesky "end game content" still behind the curtain, I think there is enough in Rift to keep me through that initial 6 months. After that, we'll see. PVP, Raids, Dungeons, Exploring and just being there is enough for me atm.
I dont care about the square footage of the zones or the same features drawn from other games all I care about is the more I played the more I wanted to play. I preordered and cant wait for launch.

Can only agree, these rift forums are making me sick. Why cant those "i hate rift its not cool enough for me" just post in one nice tread. or just leave our forums. I dont go post on there forums telling how shit there game is >.>
They are like little kids wanting to get attention by saying stuf that they know wil upset people.
The game is great. and the hype from this game is almost exclusivly from mouth to mouth advertisment. few weeks ago, rift was even unknown to the public. Compare that to gw2 and swtor lol.
Freemarch alone is the size of any three wow zones excluding barrens. Thats fucking big dude. Who cares if the quests let you see the zone. each zone has like a thousand freaking quests i consider that a good use of available space. not a negative.
When the question is asked about the size of the world and how much there is to explore why should I not answer it truthfully?
It is great that you experience the zones to be much bigger than they actually are. Actually they are about the size of WoW zones. Maybe slightly bigger, but not much. The size of the world is fine for a game at launch, but it does not really cater for the explorers amongst us.

1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
I miss my Pyro/Elem/Storm...I was rocking with that setup. I was involved in a couple of huge battles in eastern Freemarch (can't remember the town) and it was EPIC. I'll be pre-ordering for sure.

Quick question I have about this.
Is one still able to obtain the founder monthly pricing even while purchasing from a different site?
Seeing as we still have 20 levels unseen in beta AND there is that pesky "end game content" still behind the curtain, I think there is enough in Rift to keep me through that initial 6 months. After that, we'll see. PVP, Raids, Dungeons, Exploring and just being there is enough for me atm.

Compare that to gw2 and swtor lol.
the are really ruining my mmorpg.com experience

When the question is asked about the size of the world and how much there is to explore why should I not answer it truthfully?
It is great that you experience the zones to be much bigger than they actually are. Actually they are about the size of WoW zones. Maybe slightly bigger, but not much. The size of the world is fine for a game at launch, but it does not really cater for the explorers amongst us.
