Oh man, he completely annihilated the game... The funny part is after playing for 5 years (dear god what was I thinking?) I started selling accounts.... After seeing one too many players spend $300, 400, 500, 600 and even $1000+ on an account to play the "numbers" game I finally sat back and thought "wat?". He said it himself, once you see all the zones you really do get bored.. Its more than true but for some reason something makes you KEEP playing. "When I saw the level signal it was as good as my baby's first words" sort of explains it, in his words.
Now if only someone would make an MMO that had decent exploration and REAL PvP (I want to take castles and use terrain to my advantage and have actual rivalries between factions!).
I have been hearing a lot about this guy lately, I don't think he's that funny, a few giggles here and there, but really why is he so popular recently?
I feel sorry for people that get stuck in the number/gear grind thing...I really don't get how it happens, I never became weird like that.
Saw it a couple weeks ago. lol I loved WoW for the six years i played it and i didnt think he bashed the game at all. Entertaining and true, good stuff.

I like him as apart of his sarcastic sense of humour he has a sharp, critical mind. Have I mentied that he is not under any kind of pressure to write a "possitve" review about any game ?
When it comes to the numbers game...I think it happens because that the part of the human nature, to compete for what is seen as the best available reward. It is possible to avoid it by designing a game without a need to chase a carrot to enjoy yourself. However that would mean you need to relay on fun factor and creativity to attract players to actually play your title...

Its a shame that'll never happen. Oh well
The closest to your dream I have seen since ages is probably Darkfall, however the game needs a lot of work to actually attract anyone with above minimal expectations.

Part of me thinks he IS a little harsh on some games, sometimes as if he goes out of his way to find faults but for the most part what he speaks is true... And the sarcasm adds a bit of humor (or tries to) as you said.
Also for the part in red: See vid, same site, Different person.. Less sarcasm and more information.

Which is why I avoid darkfall. It meets what I'm looking for but thats about it.. The engine is bad, the graphics are bad, the animations are bad, the combat is bad (Switching weapons and changing views to cast certain spells, specifically).... Etc, etc, etc.
Believe me, I KNOW darkfall meets what I'm looking for but it lacks just about everything else.
Most of what he said in that video could be applied not to just any mainstream MMO, but any MMO in general. The only difference is subscriber numbers. MMOs are designed to keep you engaged.

Graphics whore much? Darkfalls graphics are just fine. The combat in Darkfall is some of the best you actually have to aim to you know.... hit your target. Go hit some mobs in WOW and then do it in Darkfall and tell me the diffrence they actually run and use tactics. Theres nothing wrong with switching weapons in battle as it would reflect real life etc etc etc. and mounted combat is something not seen in hardly any games these days.

Thats how WoW used to be. Running around in Aq40 & Naxx gear owning everyone in that crappy ranked gearthat was no better than tier 2. It was obvious unblanced so blizzard went all esport on us. Oh well... Goodtimes.

always a treat

To get better gear!
"And what to you use the better gear for?"
Raiding!
Yeah and thats basically how every single online game is.
Its funnier to those of us that actually understand it and dont use it as a form to bash on games we dont like.

You realise he's making fun off MMO in general right? Every MMO.
He would burn non-mainstream MMO even harder.
The reason he doesn't even review any MMO outside of WoW is because he hates MMO in general and doesn't want to review them.
What's mildly funny is that a blue poster from Blizzard promoted the site a year ago:

As a token of thanks the Escapist burns them to the ground lol.
LOL nice pretty funny

I know that guy , he is one of my favorites on the web. I think I am even sub to his YouTube channel.
/Fixed.
But seriously, if you really think about it, that's how it should have been since day 1.
Make PvP some in-game purpose and it's perfected.
Playing: Rift, LotRO
Waiting on: GW2, BP
... so WoW is the only mainstream MMO ?
