Jagex has announced that both the Wilderness and Free Trade have been returned to RuneScape. Developers indicate that players will now be able to give gifts to their friends, have access to unrestricted trade, and take part in the most dangerous sport in the whole of RuneScape: Wild PKing! In addition, the dev team will be introducing several other updates in February including a graphical overhaul of gnomes and reshaping the pottery making system.
Other changes brought in with the return of the Wilderness and free trade includes:
The new, revenant-filled Forinthry Dungeon, where the revenants drop all the unique PvP gear previously found on the PvP and Bounty Hunter Worlds.
Limitless staking for members.
Improved Chaos Elemental drops (and a chaotic new look).
Faster respawn times on the Wilderness runite rocks.
Unlimited party room drops.
Outside of the Wilderness, gravestones will have their timers increased, and repair/bless costs will be reduced to 0.

I left after they removed free trade and wildy. Will i be coming back? No. I would have if it was a few weeks after they removed it but i have moved on from runescape.
same here, by the time I've found new games to play & waiting for new releases this year.
if they done it to get people back, it too late, I guess.
beside free trade will bring again: "free stuff please" beggars in all towns.
try before buy, even if it's a game to avoid bad surprises.
Worst surprises for me: Aion, GW2
Still had that even with the restrictions. There was a "float" which you could give away. Say you were willing to pay more for an item than what it was worth, this allowed you to give away that extra worth as well as what the selling item was worth - for bartering. Also though, this still left the beggars around.
Put through the personal paces of my crippled fingers.
When I read this I almost headdesked; it is unfathomable to think it took them so long to realize their mistake in implementing restricted trade and wilderness areas. I am glad it is back but I don't think it will win anyone over that has moved on. I may check it out but I let go a sigh of relief over them fixing this long lasting problem.
Been waiting for this!
Can't believe how long it took for them to realize how many players removing this feature cost them.
They started noticing they were losing money finally?!
I dont care what anyone says, they finally did something smart which took them a long time to do, ~long story short, i can now play the runescape i played 5+ years ago and enjoyed.
Actually, they didn't do it because of any imaginary loss of players or money.
Believe it or not, your clique is not the only kind that play video games. Runescape is so popular because it caters very well to truly NEW players (teenagers).
I've even witnessed people claiming they are going to stop playing because they brought back free trade and the wild.
I've always kept tabs on this game even though I stopped playing around a year after they removed free trade, and have of course started playing once more now that it's back. I can tell you firsthand that the game's population (I look at that "X people currently online" on the homepage) not only did not drastically lower when they took out free trade or drastically increase when they brought it back, but it has actually just simply slowly increased to about 1.5 times the average it was 5 yrs ago.
And unlike 5 yrs ago, the population no longer dwindles at certain hours of the day, as there are actually large amounts of people from all around the globe playing this game. I've met dozens of people from Australia in this game.
So then, you ask, why did they do it? Petitions. This game is still being run by one of the best teams of devs and mods ever to host an mmo. They listen, and they help out, and their #1 concern is that their customers are having fun. They still have in game events, that you can find on their forums, that are run by mods who actually show up in person and participate with you.
If you've "moved on" that's fine. This game is FREE.
Check it out anyway.
