Try as I might, and the time given for any viable signs of improvement. I have edited the origional post to contain the following month after review. I will say that I am not proud of writing this, and I wish it could reflect the state of the game better than what I have witnessed thus far. Of course, you may disagree with my statement here, as these are mainly my own opinions and observations. Either way, all one needs to do is read the forums on the official War of Angels website itself to see the chaotic state that the game is in. So, without any further waste of words, here we go.
-graphics, Still much the same as my review of the beta. The world is, regardless of the flaws in the game's mechanics, still very stunning. But, that is far from a saveing grace.
-game play, As it was in the beta. The game is still the usual fare in regards to quests. There is still a lack of a tutorial for new players, and despite continued efforts from those of us that took part in the beta, that request still goes unanswered. There are still many bugs and inconsistencies that just serve to frustrate even the most stalwart players. The game's quests are still painfully linear, where your forced to go through instances if you want to attain the next level. While they did add some level 30-40 quests, even those leave much to be desired. As of yet, they still haven't even updated, and or fixed the quests for levels 1-29; and there are still painfully large gaps in levels. Which forces players to have to grind the levels out in order to get to the levels they need in order to get those quests done. Mob over crowding is still an all to painful issue. Which, like so many other suggestions, has gone without apparent notice by the developers.
-forum community, Not much has changed in regards to the game's community. Both in the forums, and in the game itself. Certain newcomers have a holier-than-thou mindset. Which has lead to even one individual taking other people's ideas, and claiming them for their own. In game it's nearly impossible for new players to get assistance, and what assistance they do get ends up involving one scammer or another. The one active GM in the game doesn't seem to take notice of what goes on, and seems even less interested in actually getting the correct information to the players. This is evident both in an in world conversation with the GM, and on the forums where they have responded to three forum posts. One of which was started way back in November. Not a good track record there. Which would lead anyone to believe that the forums are still unmoderated, even despite the bland responce from a GM to one of the posts that they even bothered to actually read. The claim by the GM is that they only delete posts if there is abuse going on in it. That, sadly enough, has not been the case, and the forums are still a battle ground for the malcontents, and the dilusional.
-game economy, As it were, and as rumor has it, the game economy is "Doing ok." Some claim that items are not nearly as expensive as they once were, while a few others have said otherwise. As it is, players can still only sell two items at a time in their personal stores. The unbalanced issue in regards to money gained from quests and selling vendor trash, still doesn't cover the costs of training and gear repair.
-bugs, I wish I could say that some bugs have been fixed, but the lack of information from the developers keeps this one up in the air. From what I have heard and seen in game, the majority of the bugs that existed during beta, are still painfully evident in the game even today. Rather than report and avoid the bugs, players are still taking advantage of the situation, as the game still seems very unmoderated. Despite the hollow reassurances by the GMs that they are aware of the issues, it makes me wonder how many they actually fixed. Given the lack of information, I'm going to have to guess... not very many if any at all.
-gear, This is about the only silver lining that I can put into this dark cloud. The developers did put in some rare armor peices for levels 20+. While this hardly makes up for the alarming number of issues, and the lack of responces. It does, however, give the player a slight chance to change their appearance by a small margin. The gear, on the other hand, one can expect to feel the sting of the nerf bat sometime later in the future. Much like those who took part in the closed beta experienced when the extra stats were stripped from their prized halos.
There we have it, the month after release review in a nutshell. So, what lies in the future for War of Angels as released by Neowiz? I dread to speculate given my past prediction for the game that I have given. Either way, with new bugs appearing with what few patches have been released, prospective new players turning away in frustration as they find the loader and or the downloader fails to function and causes crashes, poor communication from the developers, and the ton of mushrooms on the forums. I leave for you, my loyal readers, to speculate on your own where this will lead the game. Until next time.
Comments
Paragraph 1 - intro, nothing significant
Paragraph 2 - continuation of intro
Paragraph 3 - still nothing noteworthy, mentioning about lack of comms between devs and community.
So, umm where's the review?
Nice re-review, shame no one plays this as it is one of the most unoriginal, badly implemented EQ clone I have ever played.
I just can not believe that anyone could design this thing. How anyone could play it is beyond me.
If you reread what I have already stated, I said I wasn't going to review the game for specific reasons. Sorry if it was a little to long for you to grasp everything there.
If you liked this one, you should have seen my prerelease review. As to your question as to why anyone would play this, that's an answer I can't give.
As King... I decree jihashi the Royal Writer of All Laws.
I write that because I need someone who can really take my very simple, fair, and just laws and make them seem much more significant when they are finally rendered unto parchment by ink & quill.
I take it tho' that this F2P game is pretty typical fair, whose gimmick's failed to appeal to such an elaborate scholar such as yourself?
I haven't played it and I'm usually all over F2P games, simply because I suspect there will be a few more to come around with real innovation in gameplay. (or so I can hope, a King can dream right?)
Needless to say I shall now attempt to close out this thought with a rambling run-on sentence that doesn't really explain much to people other than to point out the fact that I am trying to finish up this post and then eventually go to bed in this late hour here on the West Coast of my vast and very real and no made up at all Kingdom in which I am the ruler of in a monarchy that completely lacks any sort of Parliament simply because my subjects find me to be fair, just, and prudent in all of my actions and they rest well knowing that such a caring and loving leader is here at all hours of the day to make sure that they are safe, secure, and sanitary or at least they should be because I have enacted a hands washing edict that should be followed to the letter at most times but you know all rules are meant to be broken from time to time.
The King hath QUATED!
On the contrary, the game mechanics are satisfying enough. Just not the out of the box feel that Neowiz insisted on when they rushed their version of WoA to release. Couple that with their lack of communication, loads of bugs, lack of content, introduction of new bugs with each new "patch", unmoderated forums, and a frustrated community. To say the least, it leaves a sour taste in one's mouth. It doesn't take a genius to see that this game won't last long with its present condition. Even its defenders have to acknowledge the truth that it is only a matter of time before people get fed up.
To make a long story short. You can have a game with terrible looking graphics, horrible game play, and a screen flicker that would make anyone have an epilieptic seizure. But, if you have top notch customer service, prompt replies, and regular GM interractions. You can expect to last for a good long while. I could name several MMOs, both F2P and P2P that look shoddy, but have the best support imagineable. However, if your game looks good, plays good, but you have no visiblely active customer support. Expect it not to last to long.
WoA was a great game at the beginning. Then as you level up the bugs and lack of support from the Devs and Gms made the game nearly impossible to play. The latest patch of ineptness was the final straw for me. I got out of there before I waisted any more real cash... Maybe in the future they will fix WoA ,,.. I do know I am not alone in the leaving class..
Only Rugby releases the stress of Life.
Sadly enough, your words ring true. Especially since that reflects what people have been saying since the game's December 15th launch. I myself have seen their incompetence going back as far as Thanksgiving weekend. So it's no shock to me that people will soon be leaving this game in droves.
