This is what I am looking at:

I was just going to upgrade the ram to 4 gigs and add a geforce 460 graphics(currently have a 9800gt) card to the above, but what do you think. I read that my processor my bottleneck the graphics card if I don't upgrade it.

The Below is what I got:

I have a 9800 gt and was thinking about just upgrading the ram to 4 gigs and get a geforce 460., but I read that that will bottleneck because of my cpu. I am looking to spend about $400.

4 gigs of ram and an ATI 5770? Could always get a better CPU later on but I don't see a problem with the one you have for now.

The GPU is more important to gamers than the CPU. 4 gig and W7 64 bits is a good deal. However try to get a 560 GTX instead of 460.

I would keep the CPU for another year or so unless you play FF XIV or something else that are really heavy on CPU, few games are.

Thanks for the help guys. My power supply only has 32 amps on the 12v rail, its a 600 wattt ultra ls, thats is why I was leaning more toward the 460.

Not a big fan of ATI video cards. I have been burned by them in the past and from what I have read the 460 outperforms the hd 5770.

Yeah, I'm a certified ATI/AMD fanbois and love it :) I suggested the 5770 just that it's a good conservative choice price/performance wise. But you know your budget best and you can see how much you can spend, but I'd say 4 gigs of RAM is pretty much standard with a 64 bit setup.

Yeah I prefer AMD or Intel anyday, just the ATI portion of AMD I have had problems with.

you should build a good foundation, so when you have the money you can upgrade to better parts easier.

yeah that true more upgraded specs or higher specs are more compatible for most of the games.....so you need more saving to buy it........

I don't understand what you're trying to accomplish.  Is the first post what you propose to buy, and the second what you have now?  Because why buy a processor that will fit your current motherboard, and then also replace the motherboard by something that isn't really better?  If you've got a 2.9 GHz Athlon II X2, then I see no dire need to replace that.  It's low end for a modern processor, but at minimum, you should wait until either Sandy Bridge returns or Bulldozer launches to replace the processor.

You should also not jump the gun.

While people buy consoles and say "i'll buy for games and wont need to worry about upgrades" you cant think like this for computer parts because you are in to lose a lot of money as a consequence. You need to actually figure out which games you really wish to invest in as primary games you are planning to stay in and play and then build a system around those games on your list aimed for the best performance possible...

...Going Overkill on a video card is important. Yeah thats right everyone! I said OVERKILL.

This is because the games which come with expansions tend to be more demanding than the base games. Of course you'll want to buy all expansions without wondering if your framerate would be crushed by one of them.

The difference between Console Gamers and PC gamers is that a Console Gamer can leap without thinking and not lose much, while a PC user leaps before thinking will truly suffer.
