I love it when people talk about games taking "no risk" and "we want full loot pvp"....

    GROW UP!

Its no longer 1997 as much as i hate to say it. Im with you all, i want risk vs reward, i want full loot pvp. I want to stack my 3 or 4 houses full of others peoples loot again, but its not gonna happen............

Its just bad business, because the masses like ease.. They want to play games that aren;'t going to toss their monitors out the windows like it did to some of us 12 years ago.  And hell, the feeling of wanting to throw your monitor and tower thru the wall is a good thing. That means the game elicits emotion, gets the blood boiling and adrenaline pumping and at the end of the day when you acquire something special you feel like you actually accomplished something.

Its not gonna happen anymore.  We've seen games crash and burn over and over. The Carebears won......... Game over.

Please, no one wants another UO, DAOC, Asherons Call or Shadowbane back more than myself, but some of us need to come to terms with the fact that its not good business. (Well a DAOC 2 might be good business, as long as the pve crowd get more raid content :-p )

It's not that I hate rift, but I can't see myself playing something that simply embelishes the generic MMORPG mold. Then again I also feel the same way about TERA, it's like oooo action based combat, but at least with TERA you have the option to be ridiculous popori.

Not saying that I wont be giving them a chance, after all I was under the impression that CO was a "My numbers are better than your numbers" super hero mmo. Yet after getting into my first few teleport wars I became hooked, as my face grew numb I also came to appreciate the twitch based pvp. Once I was hooked I was allowed to fully experience everything that the game offered.

The point being, that every game is worth giving a shot. I just hope I'm not disappointed.

People love to argue extreemes. I could just say:

Rift is ok, and it should do well but I wont be playing it myself because I only like combat when you can shoot while moving.

Instead I'm listening to Samuel Barbers adagio for strings while decrying how the genere is going down the toilet.

I don't care for Rift at all and will not be buying it. But classing me  and those like me as a 'hater' is too strong a word. We don't belong in that box at all. The game is too mediocre to provoke such an extreme emotion as that. I think 'Meh' is how I would sum it up.

I don't want to see it fail though. I don't want to see any MMO fail, as it makes it harder for future projects to get money.
