Guild Wars: Skill Balance Changes & Dervish Love

Arena.Net has posted the latest Guild Wars game update with a host of skill changes included. In particular, Dervish skills have received a huge amount of attention. The dev team determined that the Dervish was hampered by long cast times and skill cooldown and have made adjustments to make the character more viable.

In this update, we're doing an extensive overhaul of the Dervish. We've taken a close look at this profession and determined that it has a lot of unique and interesting mechanics, ranging from avatar skills to enchantments that have end effects. However, these fun and original mechanics are hampered by cast times and long disables, making it hard to utilize this profession to its full potential. To address these problems and make the Dervish a truly great class, we've made major changes to nearly every skill he uses. This may seem overwhelming and confusing at first, but we feel that these changes will make the Dervish a much more enjoyable character to play, while emphasizing the types of skill interactions that defined him to begin with.

'Bout friggin time! Wow those changes are sexy. Shame I already got all the points I need in the HoM, but I might log just to see how they play now. They're almost completely different now.

I was rather surprised seeing some of the functionality changes. But at least now I've got a reason to use my Avatars.

    ... now I'm extra sad that there won't be a Dervish in GW2. :(

I've tried a build with these new skill changes and it's pretty awesome now. Heart of fury + avatar of balthazar = massive consistant damage. With the new damage reduction skill changes, dervishes are really strong farmers. What the devs said about pressure on multiple opponents is  definately true, but the same is true for single opponents. I highly doubt an axe warrior can out dps a dervish now.

Having successfuly played a dervish since i got nightfall so long ago. this update has removed my class and added a new one. this is a not simple changes to the dervish. this is mutalation of a great class. and to those of you who say this makes them stronger. unless you can go fking 2 hit a lvl 22 boss mob now then it has definetly made them weaker. they have complete changed all the skills and the basic way the dervish functions.

I'm dissapointed in the changes to the Sunspear ability Eternal Aura. I used that offensive skill with my warrior. Now it's a totally useless defensive skill to anyone except a dervish. Come on guys, you could've just made another skill instead of ruining this one.
