So, for quite some time my PC mmorpg experience hasn't been the greatest. although not a lot of effort has been put in. that's about to change. that's why i'm here, to gain some direction. I've played runescape. Got to lvl 83 then decided to look down and saw more guts there than i wanted. so i took a break to get my fitness back to working order. got into wow, couldn't hold the game past level 60. I loved the original age of empires, loving starcraft 2 atm.(even though they are RTS's perhaps they could provide insight). I'm drifting away from console gaming and looking to Get into PC gaming.

I'm looking for suggestions on what MMO's i may enjoy.

ANY help is appreciated.

cheers,

Agent47Monk.

What exactly are looking in for an MMO, seems like you neither enjoyed the sandbox nature of runescape neither the themepark nature of wow and actually enjoy the single player games which you say your drfiting away from?

i know seems weird doesn't it? the facts of runescape that i always loved was the element of community. there was always someone to help. and when you were a high enough level you could do so for someone else. so basically the ease of clans and guilds etc. would be a major decider in games for me. with gameplay coming a close second.

It'd really depend on what you'd like in an MMORPG. For me personally, I like PvP, so Aika's mass PvP is a Godsend for me. I'm also into TPS' though, but you're looking for an MMORPG, huh?

Anyway, try Aika. It's worth a shot, and the client isn't that big anyway (about 500mb installer, client is about 1.5gb).

My suggestion is that you try out a few games and see what you like. Even games with monthly fees or B2P (buy the box, no monthly fees) have free trials.

Here are a few interesting games:

Wow (largest games around, getting old now but you should still do a a free trial to see what the buzz is about).

Guildwars (Made by the lead designer of Diablo and Warcraft 3. A bit different from most games but fun).

DDO (D&D as a MMO, not that bad actually)

AoC (If nothing lese than because it still is the best looking MMO almost 3 years after it released)

Vanguard (small but different game which mixes sandboxes and themeparks)

Eve (just try it, it is not that easy in the start but it is very different and pretty good)

LOTRO (Lord of the rings as a MMO)

Take a weekend for each game and give it a go. There are a lot of others as well around, you can always check with your buddies and hear if anyone playing anything and would like to help you starting.

I disagree that AoC is best looking MMO out there.  I think Aion wins that hands down, especially the intricate armor detail and special effects on certain rare armors.  I just canceled sub on Aion but I definitely had fun in my 1.5 years there, the end game grind and limited things to do solo just gets a bit stale if you are a full-time player.  If they expand level cap, mitigate the grind, and introduce some new pvp mechanics, I might go back.

If you like mech-type games like gears of war, may want to check out Perpetuum, a rising newcomer which is basically an EVE clone but on land with mechs (fighter, transport and mining units).   Great for casual player since skill points are earned while offline (similar to EVE). Just gotta join a good corporation and the fun factor elevates.  Community is pretty solid (so far).

    Good luck

    TC
