Xsyon or Rift on March 1st?

-Zeno--Zeno- Member CommonPosts: 1,298

Xsyon

Features: So many it would overload your brain.

Rift

Features:  You allready know the features.  Most have already been done before.

The definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.

    Xsyon, without a doubt.

Also, they just recently changed their launch date to March 15.

I'm not sure if I'll play Rift, but definitely not Xyson. I'll give it a year. Too clunky and too many time sinks performing simple actions or crafting simple things to warrant my time.

Rift. Probably not going to subscribe past the free month though.

I choose Xsyon considering if I wanted to play LotRO, WoW, Vanguard, etc.. I would why pick up another rendition of those that being Rift. I have preordered Xsyon some months ago and I was in Rift beta the recent ones, but I cannot get myself to play the beta based on the same old same old, how can I get myself to purchase it. I don't play the pre-release of Xsyon as I did, but with wipes still coming I find no purpose until it is final.

  • circaencircaen Member UncommonPosts: 34

I actually bought both...im going to play RIFT mostly and wait for xsyon to get some updates. I bought Xsyon because its super neat and i want them to flesh it out more.. ill probably play off and on with my girlfriend because she bought a copy and she loves it.

May pick up Xsyon somewhere post-launch. Definitely not Rift.

    I chose Xsyon!

Okay, I did not - not a chance in Hell.

If I wanted something that looks like that, I would just buy Realm Crafter...

I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?

Neither, both don't appeal to me enough to buy them as for now. Besides, I've seen other MMO's with an extensive feature list of which quite a number on that list were missing, incomplete or broken at launch, sounds like hyping to me.

I wish for both of the games to flourish and be successful though, the more diversity in fun games the better .

I'll be playing both. Rift moreso than Xsyon, but they're both completely different and completely awesome.

I just burned out after playing WoW for three months, so Rift would have to be something very different to draw my interest. And I'm not sure it is. So...

Xsyon I don't know that much about. But 'the gods and magic arising' after a modern day apocalypse just pushes my ruined immersion button big time. I'm an old school player who thinks Tolkien and Nordic mythology rules, and who wishes Steampunk, Roflcopters, etc. would die the death I think they so richly deserve. But moreso, I believe I'd give Fallen Earth a try before Xsyon if I was in a post holocaust mood right now.

Xyson looks interesting but with no real PvP it's not for me.

Rift looked promising but now it just looks meh.

    Darkfall it is.

Terry Brooks' Shannara series was exactly this, magic rising after mordern day apocolypse. I think its feasible.

I'll be staying with Mortal Online, though I will be playing Xsyon as a secondary as well.

    Pretty easy.

Sandbox players have Xyson, Theme-parkers have Rift.

I really feel bad for the sandboxers though, you guys just can't get a full budget game.

I've got my eye on Xsyon for now, Rift wasn't terribly exciting for me.

I'll probably end up not playing either, i'm really sucked into EQ1 for the time being, but if it sounds like people are having fun with Xsyon i'll give it a shot.

Xsyon is not suppose to be a steampunk or a science fiction game. It's simply a fantasy world that arises after  a modern day apocalypse. I believe somebody already pointed out Terry Brooks's Shannara books, and I think this is a fairly apt analogy.

The developer has already stated that there aren't going to be any guns or anything (saying that a picture of a gun in some of the concept art was simply one of the conceptual artists having some fun). And I think the fantasy world being based in our own real world actually gives the game a much more immersive setting; we can see examples of our own actual mythology in a video game, which I think is pretty sweet.

In my palm I hold the world, in my hand I grasp it.
I loosened my fist but for an instant,
and thus I failed to clasp it.

Ordered both and will be playing both for completely different reasons

  • BlackUhuruBlackUhuru Member Posts: 770

Two totally different games but i would say both are very fun for what they do, but to be honest Xsyon has a very long way to go and Rift is very much polished and ready to go...

Good luck with both and if you can afford it i would say play them both and stick to what you enjoy the most ...

     This ^^^

No one has done a themepark mmo and a crafting / survival mmo combined (they tried and failed with fallen earth) so I'm going with both.  Level progression and questing / rifting with rift and crafting / survival with Xyson.   Although with the server problems and head start delay with Xyson, it might have to take a back seat for a while.   Only two days to head start for Rift.

If they don't do the final wipe and fix the lag on Xyson by thursday I won't be playing it much afterall.  I have far too much fun with Rift to let that sit while I'm struggling with interface, control, etc. issues with Xyson.  One thing for sure, the millions of dollars of development really shine with Rift.   I love the crafting in Xyson, but man what an ugly game.

Why can't someone with real money make a sandbox game that doesn't look like garbage and has horrible GUI / Controls?

Xsyon! Already pre-ordered and not regretting whatsoever. Can't bring myself to play a nother extremely polished turd like Rift again. The MMO genre has been going stale because of the lack of innovation, but if we keep buying these re-hashed games then the big companies will keep shitting them out.

LOL Rift is a turd but Xsyon isn't... Hey i love Xsyon's concept and with a few more years it might be playable but to call Rift a turd is laughable compared to the state Xsyon is in.

    Best Regards and happy Hunting...

And what is inovative about Xsyon anyways, it's a really poorly made sandbox game and is doing nothing out side the box..

Or is this your first go with a sandbox type game?

I have plenty of experience with sandboxes. I've played UO(2A), Haven and Hearth, Wurm, the whole lot. I see innovation in Xsyon in the details of the game. Sure it may be unpolished but you're mistaking what I'm saying, Rift is a "turd" to me because it's a boring, outplayed, overdone, rehashed design in a just as unoriginal lore setting not doing anything original not paying attention to details. Xsyon is trying unpopular (but good) things with gathering,  completely player-driven world, player interaction and cooperation and a cool setting. And it's not poorly made, I've seen poorly made and Xsyon is in really good shape for the size dev team it has.

  •      I bought both games as well. For me they are completely differnt kinds of games, Rift is for fun and flying around sword swinging (pvp server) and Xsyon is a build your own adventure. Rifts is definitely polished and ready to launch, Xsyon is going to need work but I always give indie developers a break since they are working on a shoe string budget. Of the two I guess I will play whichever one I am in the mood for at the time, I don't feel the need to rush and try and "finish" either one of them. Will either one be the new "it" game, who knows but I am confident my two picks ar good one and offer a decent chance at having fun for the next year or so till something else comes out and I can reevaluate future purchases.

Personally I thought Rift was cool but it really wasnt my bag. I'm picking up Xsyon A: Because I love sandbox mmo's and B: because they have a great development staff and within the next few years I see it picking up and becoming awesome.

Blizzard uses WOW to harvest hours played into bottles so that the dev team can remain immortal
