*cry* that's a huge download for someone wiht simple DSL.
It was only 20MB...
Well, like I said, DSL sucks.
Surely the entire game will be many gigabytes.
I forget what the total size of the final launch client is, but around 12-14 gigs, I believe. There's good news and bad news with that. If you haven't uninstalled the beta client yet (which, unfortunately, you were told to do), you should be able to move the assets folder (and only that folder) out of the beta directory and stick it anywhere, uninstall the beta client, install the live client, then move that assets folder into the live client's directory. That'll shave 7 gigs off of your download, just leaving you with the updates.

Well, if it helps, Sovrath, that really was an emergency solution. Basically, it's to transfer all the bulky stuff like art assets and voice files, then tell the patcher to "recover data" during the patching process. It could backfire, but it depends on how good the file recovery code is and what, if any artwork they changed. MMOs usually don't switch things like cinematics this close to deadlines, but you never know. Best case scenario, it would save you the 7 gigs. Worst case scenario, you could download the remaining 5-7 gigs and have the entire installation corrupted, requiring you to download the full client all over again. That's sufficiently unlikely that I'm risking it, but you may actually be better off not doing it. I'll let you know.

Keeping the assets directory tree and then choosing the Recovery button instead of the main Update button resulted in keeping approximately 3 GB out of the old 7.5 GB of files. The size of the download has started at about 5.9 GB.

Too bad both mmorpg.com and the Rift devs fail to mention they still haven't fixed the coding for the launcher to allow for starting where you leave off if you try to pause it or have to restart your PC. I know this because they emailed me and acknowledged they haven't fixed the issue yet back when I was going to try the beta. Until they fix their launcher, it isn't worth my time.

I felt your pain about three years ago. Now I download between 1-3mb/second. Time to upgrade my friend. It is definitely worth the money.
There is very little difference between DSL and cable. Especially when you factor in if the PC has registry issues, living in a crowded neighborhood, or a bad ISP. That being said, your 1-3mb speed could easily get slowed down at any time. If anything, that is your speed on a good day, not all the time.
Unless of course you're rich and can afford fiber-optic or T1. If that were the case, it would just be arrogance to brag on that.

I was downloading at 1.5MB/sec and later on it fell too 7.6 KB/sec I was at 7.56 gig at the time. I stopped my download, turn off my router, modem, and turned off my laptop. Recycled my Modem + router + turned on my laptop , restarted the download at i started off where i left off.

So whats the problem?
Nothing against you personally, but if that is true then I would think the devs would want to post that the problem was fixed in their update notes(which I haven't seen), considering that they took the time to email me and acknowledged the problem in the first place.
So I guess you get a cookie for a smooth download, good for you.

DSL worked just fine for me, no interruptions whatsoever, even when I was downloading AoC.
Well, as of this morning the client is downloading. Seems to only be 8 gig and change. Not sure if there will be multiple downloads but that is a good sign.

I downloaded it all in one go but my friend stopped the download with 800mb left, rebooted and started to download again without a problem.

I think they have fixed it. Or at least it wasn't an issue this morning.
I started the download and realized that my roommate was still in the apartment. Stopped it as I didn't want to hamper his internet use, then started it again and saw that what I had previously downloaded was still there.

I have had no luck getting access to download the headstart. I preordered through Gamestop and had access to the previous Beta events but now it won't let me even log into their site with the same account. I've been having trouble getting access to their customer support, since that too is through their game website. I am hoping things will be resolved before the start tomorrow of the head start, but I am not overly hopeful. So far my experience with Trion's support has been woefully underwhelming.
Did you get the game code from Gamestop and apply it to your account. ? I am not referring to the beta code but the code for the headstart and game. Avoid using Firefox as it seems to have some problems accessing the site.

There was a poster that works at a game stop , he said the code was printed on your reciept when you pre-ordered it.
I called Trion about my head start code and how I didn't recieved it yet, firs question he asked me is "where did i purchase it."
I told him from Trion directly, he then told me "then you don't need to enter any code, and you're automatically in the head start."

I had previously entered the code that I had on my receipt and that game me access to the beta events (after some back and forth with their customer service). I am still getting the emails stay that the headstart is coming, but when I attempt to patch, it tells me to try again later.
Did you clear out all your cache and remove the beta client before you tried patching. Redownload the patcher and try again after you ahve cleared cookies and cache and beta client.

Well you have to have a preorder code in order to post on the forums so that will cut down on some trolling.
