Wow.. you just CANNOT make this stuff up... after they announced the free trial a day early and subsequently pulled it... then they start the free trial but their website points you to the wrong place (buy the game)... now:
After the 12 hour download and patch.. this morning I activate the free trial and this is what happens when the game loads:
The best part is that after clicking that empty error window... the game kind of closes but my desktop is totally screwed up (black background and shifted icons all over).
/sigh... I should have known better.. I really should have.

OK... here is another update of my journy into Mortal Online:
After rebooting and trying to run the game twice. I decide to do a file integrity scan after reading the forums. Lo and behold, even though I just installed the game last night (with the wonderful fan made patcher) it does find an error with one file.
I allow it to be repaired... which is really quick. Now I am once again hopeful and load the game up. It actually gets past the old crash point and the sword is spinning! I am getting in!!

This time at least the box has some text... Fatal Error. Oh well... I will provide further updates on my attempt to enter Mortal Online as I progress.

Don't you remember you need some serious jury rigging skills to get the game to work.
OK.. turned EVERYTHING to minimum and the game loaded! Progress!.
I finally get in game!
After a few minutes my character discovers jumping and running (despite the fact that he is 30..). So I move around.. find the mushroom guy and he gives me a quest to gather mushrooms. So I spend a few minutes doing that but it is just PAINFUL to walk so slow until I build up stamina or something. So instead I take out my trusty pick axe and start to wack a tree. I am currently tabbed out while chopping said tree.
More updates to follow!
(PS... saw one guy so far.. he rode by on a horse and didn;t respond to chat)

OK.. broke my axe chopping a tree and there is no vendor that I found in the immediate starter area to get a new one. So I followed the road to town. I did find one person AFK chopping a tree. I know they were afk because I pushed them away from the tree and they just kept attempting to chop it. Made it to town.. but no one was home:
Surprised since other said they never saw less than 5-6 people here in the big city.. but it is what it is.. and that is EMPTY.
So.. I find the utility vendor and after a few minutes figure out the insane interaction system where you have to drag coins from the NPC's inventory into a trade slot equal to the value of what you are trading. Whatever.. got it done, sold my wood.. and bought a new axe.
Currently back outside at the nearest tree AFK chopping wood again!

Well at least that screen shot looks pretty good.
12 hour donwload and patch isn''t that bad for a 32gb game. If you're really sincere about exposing Mortal Online for the fraud it is, it would be helpful to quantify your porblems a little more. You're supposed to work in IT, right?
Aside from the blank error message, which you as well as I know is of little use to anyone outside of SV anyway, and the icons being moved around your desktop (which I believe is a graphics driver issue with Windows that normally appears after you close a maximised window of some sort , especially a wrapper window for a directX application), what exact problems are you having? You lowered everything to the lowest settings. Did you have them on the highest before? It would be really good to have such statements quantified with this sort of information and supplemented with the specs of your rig - it would give the potential player a much better understanding of problems s/he may face.
I'm skeptical of your screenshot, however. I travel all around Nave (Mortal Online's world) and Fabernum is by far the busiest place in the game. I can't think of any time of the day such a shot could be taken and I play at all hours (I have to squeeze my time in when I can, being in full-time and shifted employment). The server just went up and you were first in? Again, quantifying statements is of great help in warning the potential defrauded away from this steaming pile of a game.
Mechanics you don't like - I can live with that. I do remember the time you positively gushed over them, however. Discovered they're not actually for you? That's cool.
And to the new player:
Why not try it for yourself? Mortal Online is a fantastic experience - some people get bored quickly and some have been playing for over a year (beta included). But I can't think of many who didn't at least get a month of enjoyment out of it and you're getting 2 weeks for free. I do recommend downloading/patching client before you get the trial, but that goes without saying across the whole mmorpg industry.
Played at the very early beta and did not enjoyed the game. Now downloading to try it out and I hope the progress would be amazing...but who knowes.

How can you be skeptical that is FAB and he took a pic.
I wouldn't hold my breath, from the OPs post it looks like a failcascade.
I'm skeptical for the reasons stated.
Throw up a 5 minute video of fab and I'll be placated.
Long story short, I can't think of a time I could have taken that screenshot myself over the past 3 months - unless I was first on after the server came up.
You don't have to shoop people out of the game. I've got nearly the same results and if you wish, will post screenshots with NOBODY around.
Also, that empty error box was LOL as I had the same thing for about 2 days.
He who keeps his cool best wins.
Still got some hope because I still can remember the anticipation of that game...and when I was accepted into the beta I was really happy and yes...then I felt miserable but still there is slight chance to enjoy the game.
1) No I don't work in IT...
2) I am simply documenting my journey
3) If you don't enjoy simply do not read but if you can actually backup your statement about how I "positively gushed" about the mechanics previously please show me... because that is BLATANTLY untrue.
OK.. now back to the story:
Using my new pickaxe I continue tree chopping. Some nice man walked up to me and handed me 4 new pickaxes while I was AFK. Not sure how long he stood there but I happilly accepted once I tabbed back into the game. Good thing too because my new pickaxe was done for!
Anyhow.. given my new found cache of axes and around 600 wood I figure I better get back inside town to the bank. There are 2 guys standing there this time! I quickly bank and then call to my new neighbors.. to be met with:
Damn... back to desktop (but this time it did not mess with my setup). Try to run the game again and immediately crash. Once again do a file integrity scan and guess what:
Seriously? 14 damaged files? How is that even possible? Sigh... repairing now. Not sure when the next update will be, but I will follow up later.

Um he just loged in went to Fab (one of the biggest starting towns) took a pick. He did not have 3 months to sit and wait for everyone to move off screen.
I am sorry but a lively game to me, especially in a starter town is not that. When I quit a little over a month ago the most I would see in Fab at one time was 1-10 and to me that is not an active population. First couple months of release we had over 50 in Fab easy. Meduli would have 100 easy.
Now especially with a free trial going on I would expect more.
For anyone following this thread, have a look at the OP's posting history.
For slappie, I shalln't descend into a flamewar. You know why I know those things.
For anyone wanting to recreate slappies errors, alt-tab out of game and delete a few files.
Wow now you are accusing him of deliberatly deleting files to make errors to report on. Just wow.
On the average in the year I played I would get atleast 1-2 CTD a day and I would have ti fix files a lot. It is not rare look at the support section in the official forums.

think about that for a moment.......you are complaining about something that is FREE. what is next? are you going to complain when people give you free money?
if you dont like it then dont play it but for God's sake wait untill you have to pay before starting to complain.

The purpose of this thread is not to complain but to simply documeny my journey. I will list the good (great stranger just handing me pickaxes!) as well as the bad (file errors and crashes). Again, if you don't enjoy the tale then simply skip it
Anyhow.. did not do much more as it's now night. I did grab a FRAPS of town for the naysayer. Sorry it isn;t 5 minutes because I have a 30 second limit with the free version. Uploading to youtube now and will link later on. There was one person in the city at this time and he was AFK chopping wood in the center of town. That's fine though.. this isn't a population debate thread as there is a new free trial so I am sure that the pop will pick up for the next few weeks. Vid is simply to rebut the naysayer who accused me of doctoring a photo.

I don't think the complaining is about a bad but free product, but it is to estimate if MO really was as good as some fans tried to make it sound like. Simply to prove who is right or wrong, not that they complain about errors in a "free" game.
And it will "prove" nothing, because, as always, the credibility of the source must be taken into account. Or, do you really believe that an accurate, objective report is the intent here?

Ehh we will see. At leaset he is playing the game and documenting what is going on. I remember quite a few fanbots in here puking all over the forums "the patches don't break things, there is no bugs, there are hundreds in every town" turns out they were not even subbed.
I believe Slap is capable of doing a more or less realistic report, without sugarcoating it as many fans would do. I tend to trust such people over the hardcore fans. If you look at his posting history, despite him highlighting negative sides of MO, they have not really been lies, have they? While many fans tend to sugarcoat all the cons and deny all the bugs.
Then again, it is down to you as well to be able to read between the lines in such a report, regardless original intentions. If he will bullshit to much, it will be obvious, not to mention I too will give it a go so I can compare.
I don't see anyone accusing you of doctoring a photo. I see people accusing someone of accusing someone else of doctoring a photo. For the record, it was you who brought up population. If you have decided it is outwith the scope of the thread, perhaps delete your own references to it? Otherwise, I don't believe the terms of these forums disallow the questioning of the inclusiveness/context of any evidence put forward.
A dairy is for documenting, a book is for tales. A forum is based on the priciple of discussion and debate and you accept that when you publish to this format.
