Lag has improved a lot, they've released multiple server-side patches that have rectified bugs/exploits, as well as improved lag. The first client patch comes out monday/tuesday, which will include some content as well as performance updates. We'll see how the game fares after this. I just upgraded my rig and can experience the game in its full glory now and im loving it, but i am eager to see what MHS has done with the first client patch. If it's weak they'll no doubt lose a lot of support from the community.
Well i managed to pick up a boxed copy for £27 so I don't feel to bothered about the money, especially with the extra time added on.
However once that runs out, I will have to see what the game is like. At the moment its just to laggy and ruff, combat just doesn't flow and its a pain to do anything.
. Lag, alot of it. up to 10 sec lag sometime. You die without knowing why
. DMZ bug ( demilitarized zone) u can't pull out your weapon, relog wouldn't work. You have to die to fix the bug. The bug seem to happen everytime you died or teleported to another zone.
. Desync bug. You can't see mobs. loot or even players. Relog sometime fixed the bug but your will crash to desktop.
. / Unstuck or /quit exploit. a player will try to gank you when u're fighting a mobs and if he or she losing. He or She could try /untuck or /quit to avoid getting kill.
. Mobs exploits. everytime ranged mobs about to shot you, just walk backward and the mobs will missed because you are out of it maximum range. It takes some practice to have good timing.
. Med-bots or turtle exploits. Just run up to argo to the all mobs and start walking backward while shooting. The mobs walking too slow to reach you. You can kill 10-15 of these mobs at once = tons. tons of xp
Be warned that if you are going to play the game to be expected that 3/4 of your playing time will be reloging. restart game, zone server crash ( about 5 times a day for 20 - 30 mins )
Log on play for 5 min, Lag = die. Now i'm desync and i can't see my loots. Relog = crash. Log on and running to loot. Looted back my loots. Now i got DMZ. Try to kill myself to fix DMZ. Rez and runing back to grind spot to not see any mobs ( desync ). Relog and Zone server down for about 20-30 mins. By now 4 hours had passed and time for bed .
I really like the game design and concept. graphic is amazing, but to my standard the game is still in alpha and it is unplayable. There are players spend all day ingame so they get about 2 to 3 hours play time and very happy, but i'm a 30 years old business owner and i have only 4 - 5 hours playtime which only about 20 min of real gametime is unexceptable.
All the things listed above are my personal ingame experiences, some player may have better luck than me.
ps: i know that there is going to be a miracle patch this week and it is going to fix everythings ( keep dreaming :-) )
Almost 3 weeks now since release and not a single patch. Also the community manager jumped ship cause he realised he couldn't do his job without getting heart attacks every week, now he is replaced which some bimbo who will do her best to get all the nerds to focus on fapping to her instead of the actual game issues. Smart move....
The game IMO is a huge scam, the fact that they still haven't delivered on the performance patch which was supposed to come at release is a huge proof of this.
Others have said it, they have been addressing performance server side and have yet to release a client side patch. Things are improving slowly but it's not at an acceptable state in my opinion. If they stick to the road map this could well be a gem, it all depends on them nailing down the performance issues and adding content according to their road map.
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"

This sounds too much like "God willing and the creek don't rise".
I think "gem" may be a bit of a stretch based on the 'ifs' you mention. Those are the same ifs that other MMOs fail at consistently.
Based on what people have been saying about this company first-hand (little communication, broken promises, the credit card locking thing, etc) it sounds like it's still a lump of coal that needs several thousand more 'years' of pressure to reach a gem state.
Call me when the lag is completely gone, there are no desync issues, I never have to relog to fix a bug, and most of the other game-breaking issues have been fixed. Then I will consider giving Masthead Studios some money and attempting to play Earthrise. Until then, hopefully fanboy subscriptions will keep the game afloat.
Thanks! You know, I was really looking forward to this game. Unfortunately, it seems we might have Tabula Rasa II: Revenge of the Turd on our hands. Hopefully not, but apparently science fiction MMOs are bad luck these days.
Tabula Rasa? Dead. Stargate Worlds? Aborted. Star Trek Online? Total garbage (but everyone with a brain expected that). Jumpgate Evolution? Delayed, in litigation, probably going to be vaporware.
The industry as a whole isn't doing much better, though. We really should all just give up hoping for a competent MMO and go play baseball, or shoot pool, or something, anything other than waste our lives hoping that competent human beings will actually develop a good MMO again in our lifetimes.

Which is why I'm playing Darkfall. It's really the only MMO that's good right now.

Pure irony. Darkfall. The game plagued with the exact same issues as ER at the start, if not more so.

Darkfall had issues with lag when you had 200+ people together all trying to kill each other.
Earthrise has problems when you are alone by yourself trying to kill a rat.
Hahahaha, Darkfall... wow. Just wow. I'm pleased you agree with me, oscarkool, but I certainly don't agree with you. That being said, at some point I'm going to flush money down the toilet to see firsthand whether Darkall is indeed the grindy, leet-kiddie, FFA-centric, everyone-is-a-mage/fighter-hybrid game I suspect it is.
Not that I shy away from PvP; actually, I love it. I play EVE, after all. But there's a fine line dividing heart-pounding, well-implemented PvP and an obnoxious, 24/7 gankfest that overrides everything else in the entire game.

A little sad that the lag isn't any better for me right now than it was last week, but I still have hope for this game. The box needs more sand in it, and if Masthead listens to their players, they'll provide it sooner rather than later.
I disagree with very little in the latest review as far as things stand at the moment, but I do disagree that the game can never evolve into a real sandbox. The foundation is there, the game world is truly a work of art, the setting is futuristic sci-fi, which sets it apart from just about everything except EVE and AO. It will be a shame if none of that ever amounts to anything. I don't regret spending the $50, and I really don't want to see this game sink.
I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals.

Yes there's retards in the game, but let's be honest. It's been out for 2 years now and it's making improvements. It will be 2 years before earthrise is at the state Darkfall is in. As it stands right now, Darkfall is the best current pvp mmo using twitch based combat.
And Darkfall definitely has it's problems (like the retarded stat grind and hybrid system you discuss). Still, I've played most mmo's out there including eve and I find Darkfall to be the most fun once you have a decent character. Eve is a snore fest and doesn't even compare to the large scale combat you find in Darkfall.
I played Darkfall when the spell/skill training was fast as a snail ( heard that they made if faster), the thing I don't like in Darkfall is that everybody are mage/archer/warrior... I think that they need to add a skillcap with a way to "forget" skills.
About Earthrise, I still think about a this game. Maybe I even will buy it... but... so much bad advertisement.

a cap would be really nice. Unfortunately, there isn't one yet. With that said, Darkfall is still the only mmo on the market with fast paced twitch combat. There isn't another game like it. Its fun if you like large siege warfare and character development. The grind sucks ass but I've been dealing with it for months now and am finally decent.
I'm hoping AV makes some good fixes to make it easier for noobs to jump into combat. As it stand now, most new players feel useless for awhile and feel lost as well. There's no hand holding.

I downloaded patch, logged in..the game is still a laggy pos. Stop the false advertising please.
