Attn Beta Players: I Want to Play RIFT

The_GrumpThe_Grump Member Posts: 331

This thread is for the people who have played the RIFT beta and, perhaps, for people playing the Head Start. I would post this on the official forum but Trion has wisely prevented people who do not 'own' a copy of the game from posting in order to prevent undesireables. I take that as a good sign.

Now, to the point. I am very interested in playing RIFT at launch but one thing that I am very, very concerned about is product/customer support. I was very interested in playing AION and watched as NCSoft completely botched the launch and offered genuinely meager support (when it offered it at all) for over a year. I understand that NCSoft is not a new company to the mmorpg genre so there was absolutely no excuse there, it was simply NCSoft being NCSoft. I was also interested in FFXIV but watched S-E not only botch things with the game itself but, ultimately, try to repackage FFXI with some other novel ideas...but I think enough has been said about that fiasco. In respect to RIFT, though, I am very curious how Trion will handle things. How they will handle things is of incredible importance because we aren't merely buying a game when we purchase and subscribe to a mmorpg, we are buying a unique partnership with the company (or companies) delivering the game.

How has Trion handled: bug squashing, server stability, griefers and any other elements you think should be commented on?

Thanks in advance for all the helpful information and please understand that I am expecting there to be some problems and queues with the launch of a new mmorpg. I'm also excited to potentially be one of the players there when the game officially starts. ^^

(1)TL:DR must be your way of saying that thinking hurts. Then again, this may explain why it looks like you responded to the post without using your brain.
(2) It's not about community, is it? You just have nothing better to do.

    Hi Grump,

I am in rift headstart and played four of the beta's I havent needed to contact a gm or anthing so I cant really comment on customer service, there has been a few issues with patch errors with downloads but after a couple of goes it will be fine (mainly small patch), I have yet to be kicked from a server alot of ppl are complaining about server wait times because they are at a few hours at peak pst time, I reakon this is just due to starting zones only allowing a certain number of ppl into them so quest hubs dont get overcrowded and should settle down as more ppl get into higher lvl zones.

Griefing is going to be a part of rift in higher zones as defient/guardian clashes over rifts ect will occur rift team team has stated that this is an intented aspect of gameplay and want ppl messing with the other factions over controll points zone bosses.  If griefing is an issue for you perhaps pvp server isnt for you.

i have seen a few complaints about graphical bugs such as cursers disapearing and a few minor things which would more likely be driver related, Trion seems on the ball with fixing issues as they appear with a short server restart and minor update after day 1 I havent  encountered any bugs yet, framerates appear to be better then open beta also so more optimiation of the game engine has been done since beta 7.

If you have not had the need to contact a GM that is good customer service. GMs need to be there when you need them but you shouldn't have to need them, something that is an encouraging sign.

Download/launcher/patcher issues are to be expected because of the newness of the game and Trion getting things stablised, so having some issues with that is expected.

Griefing can be an issue with PvP servers and it just happens. What I mean are things like people standing in NPCs to prevent access to them, not corpse camping fools and their ilk. I have heard some things about Trion quickly giving the boot of some sort to the griefers of the first sort.

Graphical issues will be more problematic for ATI folks like myself because of how shoddy the newer ATI drivers are, however this is something that Trion will have to deal with and probably will deal with by having gaming profiles.

Ultimately, that you are saying Trion seems on the ball with fixing issues as they appear is a very good indication for me and something that I am glad to read. Like I said, there is a unique partnership between the player and the gaming company and, as mmorpg players, we don't have much goodwill left in 2011.

    Thanks again for your feedback.
