I purchased this game on Thurs and have already cancelled my account and requesting a full refund through paypal.
This game is the saddest excuse for a "Next-Gen" MMO i've ever seen. In fact, Trion should be sued for false advertisement for even daring to market this thing as Next-Gen. It is about as next-gen as putting wheels on a Bike.
There is nothing going for this game. It's as generic as generic can possibly be. One might argue and say "But they have Rifts!"... right. A spot on the map where a bunch of monsters get spammed out of. Gee, I wonder how many seconds that took to think up and implement.
The combat system is just your generic button mashing.... graphics are mediocre at best.... At the end of the day it's nothing more than a bad version of WoW.
Save your money for something like Guild Wars 2... stay away.

it's the hyundai of MMO
Haven't you heard? It's what they do, put a team together and create a game, toss in some odd elements, call it next-gen and release it. Then hope for enough suckers to buy into it for it to get on the + side financially.
Me personally, bought the game and will play it for a bit. There's nothing better out there to play and the gameplay elements, quests and the world is something new, so why not.
The people and the friends that we have lost, and the dreams that have faded, never forget them~
Yup Guild Wars 2 is totally not going to be another kill things, go on quests, or races based off the first game made playable. Yup, RIFT is the only generic MMO out there. Don't mind SW:ToR, or any other games that are out and coming out down the road. This is a new game so lets act like they've lied about random things!
Let the crap fest begin.
When did you start playing "old school" MMO's. World Of Warcraft?
Yes that is all very interesting mister 1st post.
My brand new bloggity blog.
I'm not really sure we can blame a single game for the term "next-gen" not actually progressing with each generation. All "Next-gen" means to me is that it is the next generation type MMO after UO/EQ1. Since the advent of the term, it hasn't progressed at ALL.
This is genre-wide. Its a marketing tool, a buzzword.
How we can sit here and blame one game or one developer, I don't really know.
My question to the OP is why did you buy a game just because it was "next-gen" ? You've clearly played at least one other MMO before, you should know better than to buy without doing your due diligence. This "next-gen" thing not really meaning "the newest ideas and systems available" isn't exactly breaking news.
I really hope that *insert game name here* will be the first game to ever live up to all of its pre-release promises, maintain a manageable hype level and have a clean release. Just don't expect me to hold my breath.
I bought for me and my wife, and would do it again in a heart beat, honestly it is the most fun we've had in a mmo for years.
Would I recommend it to people who want sandbox, or twitchbased combat? Not at all.
Would I recommend it to someone who just wants a game to have fun in, and is not demanding unrealistic changes to a well defined genre? Yes I would :P
End of the day I just want to have fun and relax when playing a mmo. If I want groundbreaking gameplay i'll probably look towards a console or other types of games.
My god has horns.... nah, I don't think he is real either.
I didnt buy Rift, nor do I know if I ever will, but I do think it's funney to see new accounts bashing every game that is released as soon as some nice numbers start to appear...
I see this in 2 perspectives, or, this people work or have interests in other companies, or, they feel so related to other games that the urge to bash this new ones is unavoidable, either of the 2 is frankly sad...
Yeah I would agree . The OPs comments would be hold more weight if it was'nt his first post . Obviously a troll . Who said this game was going to be a next gen mmo anyway ? It is generic but then again if you take that arguement about even solo games you can trace half-life back to Doom or Quake theres a point when a game stops becoming generic you see and becomes a genre and thats what happened with first person shooters same applys to mmos . I'm also guessing the OP can't have played much of the game before rage quitting and certainly did'nt give it enough chance to see what the game truely was about . As for getting your money back from paypal good luck with that . You've already paid for the game you can't request a refund because you did'nt like it . If you'd have had the sence the rest of us did you would have pre-ordered played the beta and then cancelled before the release if you did'nt like it . Sorry I don't suffer fools gladly .
I'm not sure where people are getting the "mediocre" graphics statement from. It looks much better than WoW, the current "Standard" I guess. I highly dislike WoW's arstyle, but that aside, majority of things are low poly and they use higher rez textures for the new stuff to try and hide their lack of updating models. Shiny water does not impress me when the rest of the game is still low poly.
I bought this game and im loving it. *shrug* just cause you didnt like it doesnt mean you should start ranting off "dont buy!" to the world
Currently Playing: LoL,EVE, Rift

Yes lol
My god has horns.... nah, I don't think he is real either.
Dude, people were playing Far Cry when WoW was released.
Rift still looks WAY better than WoW ever did, in my opinion. And since opinions vary, there is no real way to prove a point based on opinion.
Still pretty confused as to why all the bashers feel the need to keep stopping in if they hate the game and the community so badly. Are there no good games to occupy your time?
My god has horns.... nah, I don't think he is real either.
Rift was very polished in beta, and set out to do what it was supposed to do. It attracts the questing themepark crowd, and I am sure it will do good in that demographic. I dd not think this game was terrible, I, myself, am just burnt out of the themepark games, and am holding out until a good sandbox game delivers. For now, wow I am having fun on my PS3.
I agree, and to the Far Cry - These are two completely different genres. The graphics and engines have to be optimized for different priorities. At most times in MMO's, there are a lot of more things running around and in the backdrop than in most fps games. You can't have the same graphics and expect them to run exactly the same with more going on.
This post is an excellent example of an uninformed opinion. Granted, this game simply wasn't for T67U89 but there really isn't anything here to substantiate said opinion. I can understand and respect that people have the right to post opinions but, and this is a big but, truly inflammatory opinions like this have no right to be aired without being duly substantiated in light of the flame wars and distractions they undeniably cause.
(1)TL:DR must be your way of saying that thinking hurts. Then again, this may explain why it looks like you responded to the post without using your brain.
(2) It's not about community, is it? You just have nothing better to do.
It depends on the post . But yeah generally when someone comes on here to be this negative its because hes using a second account . Its proberbly some WoW fan worried at Rifts success . Although its a bit premature to be worried . Its month two after release and the retention rate that will tell how well its doing . Personally I think they'll have well over a million subs by then . Sadly I'm not one of them but not because of the quality of the game but because my pc did'nt run it well enough in the beta with low fps .
+1
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
Sick and tired of seeing this idiotic point (or non-point) being made on this forum.
Perhaps some genius could explain why a comment made by someone who hasn't posted before is any less valid than someone with 100 posts to their name.
Length of time spent on a forum or the frequency of a poster's activities have absolutely no relevance when it comes to judging the validity of an individual post.
There are cowboys on here with 1000 posts clocked up and the vast majority of what they've said is entirely worthless - and I frequently read posts from gamers with half a dozen posts logged and consider them to be right on the money.
Yes, they may be trolling or whatever it's called - or they may have just felt strongly enough to make their first post - or they may have discovered MMORPG and this is their first post. Everyone has to start somewhere...
Haters already (/sigh). RIFT will be successful no matter you say as there is no other company that do its job like this by releasing a very polished MMO. Success emerges from such beginnings. Think about this, a polished game with 24 classes at start up with full useful professions. Which company could ever achieve this, please answer. People must be really blind who can not see the future potential of this game.
I think that's very true - I'm finding this difficult to play, but that's only because I've maxed out on this whole fantasy lark and really can't be bothered any more with the whole grinding/questing/gear swapping merry-go-round, but the game, while fairly generic at the end of the day, appears to be well thought out and produced and I do think it's going to do well over time.
Doesnt mean he is not right. The game is a very generic MMO indeed, only thing it has going for it is polish.
