If it isent you cup of tea...sorry.   I am loving the game.

Yeah, I just got off of an all day session. Making dinner now.

Same, about to go make some taco salad for dinner and then go back to Rift for the night.  It's been a long time since I've been addicted to an MMO, finally the slump has been broken. Yay!

    hmmmm taco salad.

Only reason I got off was because they brought the servers down for an update. Thought it was the perfect time for food.

will go back in a bit and spend the rest of the evenign.

    Interesting "fun" story.

I was followin some rifts and came to that town that is in the water. Apparently there was an invasion that took it and it spawned quite a few mobs so that everyone was a bit reticent to dive in. There were only a few people standing around apparently wondering if they should take the chance.

so I dove right in, pulled some mobs and then was joined by the rest. Then I saw on the other side another group fighitng there way toward the center like we were.

Took a small bit but was a good time taking back that little town.

Haha, nice.  Yeah I'm enjoying the fact that "grouping" in the game is fun and worthwhile and easy to come and go while doing other things.  So far the community is pretty good, most people are friendly and help each other out, love joining forces to close down Rifts and invasions. Currently I'm leveling my Guardian in Gloamwood, the games token spider and goblin infested woods.  I've died A LOT and I don't mind at all, it's been fun.

Its WoW 2.0, no doubt and will carry a substational amount of players to carry the title.

However I am not feeling the game excitement, I do enjoy the graphics and mechanics of the game though.

The UI is very polished and the ease of use to get into the action is fairly simple.

I am going to play it for a month and then decide whether to stay in RIFT or head back to Everquest (Progressive Server).

If you like reading LOTS of QUESTS to Level, this is the game for you. It seems like I am doing more reading than killing and hacking up mobs for XP isn't the way to go of course.

It does feel like I am on a railroad track once again though, but I already knew this would be the case when going into the game.

Yes...this game is extemely addicting imo. I also become addicted to Xsyon if i play too long. it's good to have two games come out around the same time that are addicting for completely different reasons...aside from just being fuckin fun. May they both remain active for  a very long time. Pretty sure at least one will but I've been wrong before. (many times.....er....well...most times actually...lol)

Or you could do what I do, only do the quests you want to do and then do rifts/invasions and perhaps try your hand at the pvp.

I don't allow myself to get on a quest train unless I want to.

Loads of you trolls around these days. Should've tried the open beta before getting the game.

Hmmm, not really quite sure what anyone can say OP. If you don't like it, then you don't like it which is fair enough.

I can only give my own, somewhat different viewpoint, I've just managed to tear myself away from the game thanks to them doing a quick patch right now, I've been on since 10:00 this morning, so a very unhealthy 13 hour session on it.

Rift is without a shadow of doubt the most enjoyable mmo experience I have had fullstop. The graphics are fantastic all maxed out on my system, the gameplay feels suberb once you hit 10+, the gameworld is very impressive and I certainly haven't had the linear and confined experience you spoke of. As things stand right now this game is on course to be a shining example to all other MMO company's out there on how to get a game ready for launch. For far to long we have had games go to launch when they are nowhere near ready. Rift was ready and it certainly shows. The most professional launch I've had the pleasure of being a part of.

The world is small and linear. I gave up the grind at 14. Its forgettable. Never again will i believe the hype. Blizzard you are redeemed.

I agre that the rifts are not so cool, but the rest of what you say is bull=====

Rift is the most polished game I have ever seen at release, and it is not even released yet, they are still working on it.

This game is maybe not my favirit kind of game, I like more hardcore like Asherons Call or Vanguard.

But for those who desire this kind of game I must say  that you wont find any better.

OP obviously fell prey to a ragequit and thus his opinion is more trolling than anything. The Game is rather polished Honestly he could have tried the beta and see if the game was to his liking. I tried and was not utterly impressed, saving me from spending 50$ on something that would not have been satisfying.

This being said, he has a point when he speaks about linearity. They could have made some more starting areas, one per race maybe, as a nice way to introduce the lore. In fact, I had the impression that the Lore is very generic and a bit shallow, especially if compared to other MMOs such as LOTRO, WoW or AoC. Quests seems a mere excuse to level you up and no wonder some people do not even bother about them. Lore for me is one of the most important aspects in a MMO, as it is the means by which I'm immersing myself and willing to discover it.

The game has some interesting features such as the Rifts, invasions and the Soul system, so those interested in new game mechanics and dynamic content may enjoy it. For me, the insufficient lore is a gamebreaker.

Can agree with that. This has to be the game with the most content packed into each area, though. Even the usually "empty" places in other games have at least a few secrets to be found in this one.

...Even if they ARE horribly difficult puzzles. :p Without any quests to guide you to them etc.

We were all laughing at some guy in chat today. He kept saying how hard the game was and how it sucked etc. (The game isn't really hard, I'll be honest.) Some other guy came in and told us to stop bullying him. He was genuinely having trouble because he was running through groups of mobs and getting slaughtered by them. Instead of killing them or trying to go around.

That just made it all the funnier, of course. xD

EDIT: Also, on starter zones, you have to remember that WAR had a seperate starter zone for each race, and that resulted in empty zones later on. Hopefully they'll prevent this with a single unified zone.

I think the one thing you can say about Rift that is 100% not true is to say it is unpolished.  It is the most polished MMO release I have taken part in, the game actually works.  I have a steady FPS pretty much all the time except occasionally in invasions when it is absolutely flooded with people.  I have had only one crash since I started in beta 5 and I only ever encountered two bugs.  One of these bugs was fixed in a beta patch, the other (A broken quest trigger) I have never been back to again since so I don't know.

Unlike the AoC release which was abysmal, I'd say this head start is running swimmingly.

My opinion on the game though is that currently I am enjoying myself.  I am enjoying rolling around questing with my boyfriend and occasionally veering off to take part in Rifts or Invasions when I feel like it.  I can see how people may have a bad impression from the first ten levels though.  It is currently so rammed busy that the earlier areas feel like a warzone, every man for himself, throw yourself at anything you can get near to.  It evens out though as will the Rifts I assume once the population is more spread.

It isn't revolutionary, and it won't be for everyone but currently it works for me.  The questing despite what some people insist, is somewhat linear but the public group option, Rifts and Instances break up any tedium.  I for one like the fact that I can have my group as 'public' so people to join when heading to a Rift or killing a boss, it means strangers can join for mutual benefit without needing to actually go through the hassel of pre-arranging things.  I also like the way teams are automatically upgraded to raiding parties and raiding parties can be combined with the simple click of a button.  This way everyone can benefit from exp, loot and of course it gives my cleric an easier job healing everyone.  The class system seems at first overwhelming, followed afterwards by the feeling that no matter what you pick it all plays the same as everything dies fast anyway.  Only when getting into the late teens did I begin to feel the distinct differences between builds, a simple case of swapping one of your three souls can completely change the way you play your character depending upon how you spec it.

If anyone is reading this and undecided if they want to try it or can't afford to risk the cash to buy it, I'd suggest waiting for a trial.  If though you want a lighthearted linear MMO with interesting class systems and public quests, then I don't think you are going to find another running so smoothly or more polished with a currently healthy player base.

You know a game is going to be successful when it generates the "I'm cool so I hate ," when the vast majority of the posts on this game are very positive. I take this as a good sign for the game.

For the record, I thought the game was same old same old until I hit about lvl 16. Anyways...heading back to enjoying myself playing Rift now. You guys have fun hating every game that has come out in the past 6 years. Maybe you just hate MMOs? Ya, I think that's probably closer to the truth.

Look at the bright side Trolls, you have SW:TOR and GW2 coming out in the next 12 months, so you can gear up for hating them too soon enough! It's a great time to be a troll.

You mad? Rift is more polished than WoW is right now, Rift is more polished than any MMO i've played. If you don't like the game. Go play something, or don't play anything. Little 1-10 post trolls have no effect on game population. This game will be successful. Only because it's a finished game. It's polished. it's ready for launch. other MMOs failed before it, Because they were not finished, nor polished.

I'm more polished than WoW! Give some examples.

These two sentances of the OP are all anyone needs ot read to know where he is coming from. All he seen was a Death Rift, he quit at level 14, and says the rifts respawn every few minutes. I'm going to call BS on him actually making it to level 14 actually. There is ONLY one place that has a consistant death rift that repops in one of 3 locations over and over. Its part of the story line, you know that annoying linearity he also speaks about. I doubt he even knows why those death rifts repop right there every time like they do. No, probably not, looks like he didnt care either way.

And anyone who just bashes buttons when they play thier character, well you suck at playing the game so you should quit befoe you embarass yourself anyway. But honestly, if you never trained up your character, never took more than 30 seconds to figure out how to play your character, never wanted to play the game anyway from the first second you logged in, well I could see how you would be a mindless button basher.

My assessment of the game and the opening poster in this thread. Rift is just fine, the opening poster is the one that is forgettable. Never again should anyone have to listen to him. And yes Blizzard you have been redeemed, your still the king of every MMO player who has neither the desire to succeed or the ability to do so on thier own.

The OP was expressing his opinion. . I can't believe he got a "go back to WoW" when the game appeals to the same market.  I thought the world was pretty linear as well during the first 10 defiant levels.  Switching over I found even the starting area of the other side much more open etc. Also I like how you could just run around the map and do quests. . and fight rifts etc. . again good was the best I felt the game was and I just can't do it again.  That doesn't cloud my judgement enough to say it sucks though.

If someone doesn't like this game then they sure as hell won't like WOW, or LOTRO, War, etc.. because Rift is from the same mold as those games if not a ton more polished then that last of the three games mentioned at release.

If someone likes theme park MMO's with linear leveling then this game is what you are looking for and then some IMHO. Its not a WoW killer but it will certainly be taking subs away from other theme park games for various reasons but mainly due to the class open ended role/class system.

As for the OP well he can keep on crying like a baby but no one should pay him any heed. This game was in open beta (aka try before you buy beta) for a good long while. You'd really have to be out of touch with reality to not of read up or tried this game before the launch. So far the biggest complaints about Rift I've seen are that its theme-park MMO...well DUH !!

Games I've played/tried out:WAR, LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, AoC, EQ1, EQ2, WoW, Vangaurd, FFXI, D&DO, Lineage 2, Saga Of Ryzom, EvE Online, DAoC, Guild Wars,Star Wars Galaxies, Hell Gate London, Auto Assault, Grando Espada ( AKA SoTNW ), Archlord, CoV/H, Star Trek Online, APB, Champions Online, FFXIV, Rift Online, GW2.

    Game(s) I Am Currently Playing:

    GW2 (+LoL and BF3)
