questions about UO (I never played the game)

MarkusanMarkusan Member Posts: 92

I have a few questions about UO in it's current state.

1.

How much character development is there? How many skills can I obtain and how much time would it take max them? Are there other forms of character devlopment besides items and skills?

2.

Are there classes in the game and how does skills work in conjunction with classes? I heard that there used to be no classes and you could choose magery and melee combat to create a battlemage. Is this still possible?

3,

Is Trammel a PvP free world? Is the rest of the world FFA pvp?

4.

Would a new player be able to accomplish anything in UO or would I be ganked by PvPers? Are there areas suitable for new players?

5.

Are all races and classes/skill combinations viable or are there a limited number of choices (some combinations being seriously underpowered) if I wish to see the end game content?

If I wanted good graphics I would play crysis and other FPS games.. I want a good MMORPG that offers a lot more freedom than WoW, Rift, Warhammer, DDO and all other handholding games.

    1. Last time I played a long time ago you get to gain 700 skill points in any skill.

    2. not sure, after my time. You just get 100 skill points to disribute into 3 skills upto lvl 50 skill when you make your charater.

    3.  I quit right before the release of felluca or whatever its called but trammel is ffa pvp an the other is pve. both of the worlds are exactly the same. they did this to add more housing space.

    4. Getting a house was a big accomplishment. getting 100 blacksmithing gets your name on all GM made items.

    5. Think they just have elf and human. end game stuff can't say, been too long since I played last.

hope this helps till some-one who's play recently responds  :p

Maxing out in UO take a long time.  Skills raise very slowly, but the game isn't about becoming top player.  There is much more to the game than to just sit around killing things and getting better.  Explore the lands, which there are quite a lot of.  There is so much to UO and your character than any MMO to date.  Venture out on the sea, gather treasure maps and gather a party of people together to find the treasure.  Build a house to your liking.  The list is long.

No, there are no classes in UO.  The game has skills that you pick to raise.  There are 59 different skills in the game, and there is no wrong way to use them.  You can pick any 7 or 8 skills that you prefer and go with that.  Decide throughout the game that isn't what you want?  No need to re-roll, simply adjust the skills so you gain another as you lose points in the one you initially wanted to raise.  So yes, it is still possible to make a battlemage that can cook and play and instument.

    3,

Yes.  And Yes.  Trammel has no PVP, it is the more popular world.  Felluca is a FFA pvp world.

You can accomplish a lot in UO.  More so than when the game was new.  EA now has a city called New Haven that gives you quests to learn the game and a safe area from monsters and PVPers.  As long as you stay in Trammel then you will have no problem being ganked.

    5.

There are no limitations at all.  Plus there is really no end game content.  Uo does have dungeons and harder places to go to.  But there is no raid, no end game PVP.  It is a completely different game than the rest.  To me UO has always been about living in another world.  Simply put.
