Many TERA Players Quit Because of Bots

flyingchong3flyingchong3 Member Posts: 23

Since the release of TERA's OBT in January, the cheating programs have always been one of the major problems both players and media lash out at. On February 10th, the official company banned 3,331 accounts at a time, seeming to crack down on the cheating deeds. Nevertheless, the number of players who use the third-party software increases on the contrary after 12 days. When overseas players still hold out hope of TERA, lots of Korean players have chosen to quit this game.

Again. Every Korean game has the sh*t issue.  A game want to be a good game, such problem must be avoided first.

the basic issue with bots is the wrong game-architecture, e.g.

    - if you have a skillsystem like darkfall, you should not be surprised, if people are using bots to skill up

    - if your combat, gathering and crafting system is that simple that every bot can do it, they will do it.

so you need a game archetecture and gamemechanik, that most bots will fail or work inefficent, because you need a human brain to manage it. for the smaller rest of cheaters you then can use tools in order to catch and ban them. if TERA made these well known mistakes, they should fix it until launch. unfortunately it is not trivial to change architecture later on.

When did you start playing "old school" MMO's. World Of Warcraft?

the issue is not Korean games, the issue is you. where are you from ? America?  WoW/WAR  is not korean games, but they have cheaters too.

stop blaming who made the games, blame  yourself.

Just like every MMO you mean.

EQ has macroquest, WoW has / had Glider, Aion had tons of hacks, Rift is out 1 week and it has speedhacks.

Every MMO has hacks, unless they change the model so you're not in a competition with each other, every MMO will be hacked.

Americans and Europeans are a huge part of the problem, this isn't "asia" only, most of the Gold BUYERS ARE AMERICAN.

    MMOsite again....

I've come to associate mmosite with sensationalism and fishy news reporting, more of a tabloid site that posts halftruths and wildly blown out of proportion news items in their search to spike their hits count.

So, until I see the same news from other more reliable sources, I regard their news at the same level as 'woman births baby from alien abduction' kinda news.

    Sad but true indeed :'(

Botters were the reason I quited Lineage II. Game is good, but botters make it impossible to compete agains them. If TERA goes the same way, I'll skip TERA completely.

Games that reward mindless, repetitive activity will be botted. It's as simple as that.

I believe when games in which when grinding is very hard you'l always gonna see bot. my suggestion is if it can be done use a capcha like system, for every 30-45 in game. a window in game pops up and tells you to enter a certain combination of words and if not answered the account will disconnect from server and cannot login for 5 min that will scare some botters.

Actually that is the capitalist market telling the game company the their MMO should be F2P + Cash shop. If a game company won't offer RMT legitimately then many players will use 3rd party sites instead. This is doubly true if non RMT players abandon the game.

    1. TERA Korea uses hangame to put out their game which they use Xtrap/GameGaurd..etc

    2. NA Tera, from what I heard will be using it's own in house anti-cheat.

"Q: I´ve read a lot about your point of view about MMOs security. Let’s talk about this first. Gold farmers and game-fraudsters earn about 1-10 billon dollars annually. With TERA in the eyes of a lot of people (and growing) I think you should know TERA will be focused by these "cybercriminals". Are you conscious of this?

A: We’re very much aware of the problems caused by cybercriminals in other online games; given the enormous amount of money that they can generate by gold farming and stealing game accounts, then selling game gold for real-world money, it’s no surprise that they’re already looking into TERA. While their interest does validate the growing excitement for our game, we know that online crime is a critically important problem to solve, and that we have to do much more than other game publishers have done in the past. Players have already seen that simply pulling out the “ban-hammer”—as publishers have done for many other games—is an ineffective solution.

We have a lot of work to do to ensure that our game has a high-quality play environment free from chat-spam, account theft, purchase fraud, phishing, scamming, and all the other nasty behaviors that criminals use to make money. We don’t have these mechanisms in place yet because we’ve been focused on creating an excellent gameplay experience first. That said we know it is a critical area for us to innovate before we launch to ensure that gamers have a great experience playing TERA. Just so no one gets alarmed by that statement, we won’t be using GameGuard or its ilk."

It doesn't surprise me that a game has bots. I would be pretty surprised if the Korean players actually quit over it.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

This whole thread is based on information from a very unreliable source.

When games are played for abstract rewards in a digital world rather than the joy of playing there is a problem somewhere for sure.
