if you want to play on Crom(EU) then the answer is Yes.
the server is full of player,at everylevel minigame starts and there's a raid/istance every 5 minute.
on Fury or the RP servers the situation is much more different.kinda empty servers,a lot of people is moving from them to Crom.
i don't know the US servers situation,so i can't help, but if you want to play on the EU AoC then i assure you that if you play on Crom you'll find it full of players,at every hour.
The US servers are similar. If you're looking for a PvE server, like Wicanna, then you're in luck. It's thriving. If you're a pvp person, then I'm sorry to say you're out of luck. Cimmeria has a decent population but Tyranny (my server =/) is a ghost town. PvP for the game in general is not that great because the game Director insists on ignoring their pvp player base. I wouldn't completely ignore the game, though, because it is very promising.

well I recently subbed, and found only 1 newb person on cimmeria and 3 on wiccana, when I checked the official forums which I can only read, they are talking about how the population is dropping even further.
Wait till it goes F2P but with there model of being able to buy superior equipment that bugs me
I feel like if they are going to go F2P they are going to wait as long as possible and squeeze as many subs out as they can, particularly because it has one of the cheapest subs on the market. F2P saved LOTRO's butt, but they didn't wait until the game was almost completely dead to do it. AoC isn't going to have enough people who are willing to say it's good when it goes F2P, unless Funcom pulls out all the stops in marketing.
And they're not going to do that, because I'm getting emails about their new DotA clone. They don't care about AoC anymore, which saddens me, because it will always be my favorite MMO.
I play on the Set server and the player base during my playtime hours is reasonable. It is not jam packed or anything, but there are always people running about and global chat is always active. I don't group a whole lot except for raids so LFG doesn't happen much for me. I would recommend finding a guild, as you then have people with a vested interest in helping you out if needed.
I am in one of the larger guilds and we have around 2500 toons in the guild, plus we have an alt guild with another 500+ toons in it. There are several guilds of similar size to ours as well.
End game raiding is still very big in AoC, I see hundreds of PUGS each week.
All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.
I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.
I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.
I don't hate much, but I hate Apple© with a passion. If Steve Jobs was alive, I would punch him in the face.
No idea sorry. I don't play AoC anymore. Saddur was that slavemaster boss right? I cannot remember. I only played AoC very briefly, I actually kind of liked the game, but got caught up with other games and quit. Don't know if I will ever go back though, not a huge fan of Funcom Might try it out if they do end up going F2P, something like Anarchy Online's freemium model.
No new servers coming, unless its the "Blood & Glory" pvp server coming in May. Name is unknown as far as I know.
The PvE servers are also having population issues. The expansion released two buggy bosses and called it tier 4 and nothing since, so PvE players have been leaving en mass since the expansion, PvPers already left but i do miss those monthly posts by craig saying that pvp is going to get addressed and farming rocks and trees for honor points and PvP gear was working well. Dang it has been a long wait for pvp stuff.

Wicanna is like a ghost town now. Population has been halved in the last month.

Set is the same way. Prolly a bit worse off than Wiccana.
Funcom has reviewed all of its assets relevant for
impairment testing. This process has led to
recognition of an impairment loss of around
3,1 MUSD for Age of Conan due to a decrease in
numbers of subscribers for the game. Funcom Q4 10 report.

I just resubbed a couple of weeks ago just to see how much things have changed since I last played a year ago and Set is indeed a ghost town. I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of other players I ran into while questing. If not for the channel chatter, it was like I was playing a single player game. Things might be a little better at the higher levels though since the pop seems to be top heavy. I dont know for sure since my highest toon is 64 but all those people on the channels had to be somewhere in the game and it wasn't anywhere I was ever at so I'm guessing endgame content areas.
I'm willing to bet real $$ that Rift is going to take a huge and permanent chunk out of AoC's population.
90% of gamers prefer a generic high fantasy game environment? Then I am in the 10% minority because that is the least of my gaming preference. I am not sure which genre I have had the my fill of more, high fantasy or first person shooter.
