Maybe, if they did it well. But I am not impressed by the little art.

And Ultime really need Garriot, he made every game so far (and not just UO, I started play Ultima IV on Amiga). Sure he messed up TR but nobody is perfect.

Well TR still had it's diamonds worth noting.

If Garriot was on board and most of the team were new faces not from other MMORPGs that's out now I'd be excited.

But if even a MapleStory janitor was involved count me out.

Most MMO teams seem corrupted from the start now by reusing the same ol' tired faces and lame ideas.

UO2 would have to be REAL special. But wasn't there talk of this .. 4 years or so ago? And 7 or so years ago? A good decade ago?

Will develop an original MMORPG title for money.

Yea, Ultima Online 2 was cancelled in 2001. lol

Maybe if SWToR makes EA a billion dollars they might rezz UO2...

I can see them following it's success with another MMORPG, especially a fantasy one.

Until then, nah, not happening. EA have too much invested in, and resting on, SWToR for anything else to be started. Maybe you will see a UO2 in, what, 7 years or so?

  • zabTHzabTH Member UncommonPosts: 35
Sadly, those are 2001 sketches / renders. Just google the names and you'll soon find that they were all origin employees back in 2001.

UO probably won't ever be remade for at least another five years or so, but if it is ever re-created, don't expect the sandbox freeform world that made the original so great.

Unless Richard Garriott was behind it, no thanks.  EA sucks at everything which include destroying quality IPs and Developers!

Besides Lord British recently said he was working on a new Social Game with the vein of Ultima Online, so I'd rather get my hopes up for that instead!

its all about the sims midieval and the online possibilities from it. just you wait, EA has it in the works! image

this might be a good thing, if it didnt have two words that doomed it from the start "Social Game". Social Games suck, period. If Garriott wanted to get himself back on top, he'd make another niche game like UO was back in 1997-2000.

Right now, he is just trying to accomodate the lowest common denominator, the facebook gamer, in an attempt to relive his old glory days when people actually respected him. With each facebook game he makes, he looses another chunk of his credibility amongst quality gamers everywhere.

The truth about Garriott right now, hes gun shy. After getting anal raped by EA with UO and the Ultima games, then having NCSoft flip him over and go in for seconds, he doesnt have the mettle to take another chance and make a real MMO. So, he plays it safe making kiddie games for Facebook and its snot nosed punk ass owners.

Face it people, Garriott doesnt have the stones anymore. Don't count on him making anything good ever again. Ultima was his crowning achievement, in the gaming world that is. Unless he can either reclaim UO and the Ultima Series and restore them to their former glory, or make another MMO that is just as good as old UO was, he's going to fade away into obscurity to only be remembered as "That guy who made UO".

    game needs raph koster.

While he was bleh on EQ2 ,if you want the ultima feeling this guy is the one i feel can do it.

  • SionedSioned Member UncommonPosts: 135

yeah no other dev is able to pull that off - definetly need raph koster. But i fear that the sandbox idea is dead - at least in the eyes if investors and SWOTOR will only make that worse. I doubt we will se a world sandbox game anytime soon. And so i think UO 2 is just a rumor.

I know all the Shallow Hals will be all over this for the dated graphics but this was the shiznitz trailer when it was launched back in 01.

P.S. Because I know it will come up. The music is the Grimm Fairies.

There is CCPs "World of darkness online", it have good budget and competent devs. If it sells OK it will open up for games like UO2 again.

The idea isn't dead, but sandboxes need to change from UO into something that have the potential of getting more players. If anyone can do that it is CCP. I believe that sandbox games will have a second comming (sorry, MO and DFO have too few players to be called that, and even Eve) but it will just like the first comming have to start with a good and different game.

Just copying UO with modern graphics would fail miserably, what made UO a great game from the start was that it made stuff noone had before and that it tried to bring pen and paper RPGs into a online computer game. Not that it copied a already good game.

Why do you want UO2 when you have Mortal Online? Support that "project" first !

  • taramirtaramir Member UncommonPosts: 74

Id rather support the original UO than Mortal. That statement was completely ridiculous.

Always liked the tune from that trailer.

MO can die for all I care.  UO2 I would support.

As long as EA is making Ultima it will be shit!

When Richard Garriot sold Ultima to EA it went to shit, they impemented all the new style MMO garbage and the game went to hell... The origional Ultima kicked ass, it was unique and didn't care what others were doing. it stuck to its guns and thats why thousands upon thousands played.

If they make ultima 2 and it has all the AOS properties, etc ltima will be forever dead; except on free shards.

Although MO has come along a long way, I don't believe SV has the required talent to be a UO2. By the time they can complete MO, we'll all be living in spaceships travelling through the galaxy

  • HenchdwarfHenchdwarf Member UncommonPosts: 517

i love many of the features MO tries to implement.  the biggest difference between UO and MO, in terms of hardcore pvp and playability, if that initial character creation in MO is not intuitive or user friendly.  i see what they were going for, but i was turned off by not really having an idea what my traits and skills meant, nor my race choice.   if a game requires template building to be successful, fine, give me a readily accessable system to start intentionally using from the start. i dont want to waste my time building a gimp because i thought it made a cool back story, when any seasoned player will have already remade his toon with min/max foreknowledge, and thus eat me for lunch until i do the same.

in UO, it was acknowledged to be a competitive pvp game, so even new players at least knew what they were aiming for. id love to see a UO2 take some of MO example, but ultamately keep the same focus on player ability, as opposed to character history.

I'd love to see that, but I think the window of opportunity has come and gone.  Garriot needs to do something though to redeem his name after his last failure.

E.A. CEO, GET OFF YOUR ASS AND MAKE UO FREE TO PLAY. THEN START PRODUCTION ON UO2!!! There I feel better, had to screem it!

Sometimes its good to think deep. Some times it good just to play games.

R.G is working on an other project, and i think it is far more interesting that any possible UO2, especially knowing EA, an Uo2 will have nothing but the name from the original design. Also R.G said he will implement all the richness in role playing ulitima online had and even more in his new project. I don't recall the name of his new project, Britania something, and it will be browser mmo i think.

Bull, Garriott's next project is going to be a freaking social game. Bascially, he wants to combine all of the Zenga "Ville" games together into one horrid monstrosity that is going to suck more donkey balls than Matthew McConnahey (or however it is you spell that shirtless douchbag's last name)

    Darkfall is a good "UO2"...
