to be able to switch rolls any time is garbage.... it will make you feel like ur char is pointless.. cuz everyone is gunna be running around as the same class the (op) class with some healers maken pvp unfun.
UHm shows how much some know ; This type of system has a Exponmemtial curve you can dabble but will not be master of all.
We'd have to learn quite a bit more about it to really know but it's quite capable of being a disaster if not handled correctly. Anyone ever gotten in an instance or raid only to find out the tank has never tanked before, or the healer hasn't and the dps is actually a tank that wanted to try his other spec?

I wish people would start not to be so dependent on the rigid trinity setup, and learn some different tricks.
The whole stale trinity mechanics in team combat with its rigid class system has made people lazy, made incapable to adapt to different situations or other types of gameplay.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
Switching roles in Rift has been questionable, would not like to see it again. But its part of the easy mode MMO concept, GW2 you can all heal and so on. How long before in every new MMO released we can play any class at the click of a button, give our charecter a full squard of npc companions and never have to group with anyone for the entire game?
We are not getting differant types of gameplay, thats the problem. We are getting one solo guy can do anthing gameplay. So the shift is towards soloing and easymode not differant gamestyles.
I'd still be a whole lot happier if this were anyone other than Failcom. I'm interested, but FC has a really huge mountain of past failures that they need to prove they are past before I will buy another product from them.
Well, Ao and AoC were despite their bad launches and flaws still interesting games, besides The Longest Journey and Dreamfall were definitely not failures at all, they were great games.
The maker of those last 2 games, Ragnar Tornquist, is now the game director for The Secret World which I think is a good thing.
I agree.
My interest in this game is mainly BECAUSE Ragnar Tournquist is the creative director. I know damn good and well that the story / lore will be KICK ASS. So that is at least ONE part I have no concerns about, but beyond that, it still appeals to me in other ways. TSW is the only game coming out in the near future besides GW2 that I care about at all. I intend to play them BOTH.
I found RIFT to be a tedious bore. I guess we all have different taste in games. I'm always glad when someone finds one they like, but I'm also ever aware of how far removed my personal taste is from some peoples'.

Fair enough. I haven't seen a game that doesn't use it, but even still... all I meant is that it depends on how it's handled so that you're not bombed with a player whose never tried the spec/class/whatever before entering the instance. It doesn't matter if it has no tanks, or no healers or whatever, it's still important that switching specs/talents/subjobs/whatever isn't so easy as to punish the players unlucky enough to get x person in their group.

If you'd played GW arena PvP intensively over a period of months, you'd say differently: trinity combat isn't the be all end all of MMO team play, there are different styles of MMO group combat mechanics, away from the trinity, that work just as well if not better.
People just have to be more versatile with them or adapt to different team combat roles.
But hey, people needed to learn trinity combat for a first time too when they started MMORPG's, so it should be doable, learning new things and new roles.

swg before the NGE didnt use it
that game was a skill based classless system
one of the primary reasons the NGE was taken so badly is because they changed to a class base system thus taking away what a lot of people loved about the game the ability to dictate who you are in the game
i suspect its somthing like swg had that SW is going for
but then again i could ba as far off as possible they havent given us much to go on yet lol :P
Whoopee. Another "grouping is more funner" design philosophy. Now, thanks to Rift, SWTOR, and now this, I'm going to be saving a lot of money not buying MMOs for the foreseeable future. I'm done paying for content that I'll never see. At least with Guild Wars 2, they're not going to be charging me a monthly rate to play.
Grouping is only fun for people who like it. There are those who won't do it no matter how much developers do to drive them into it. We'll just stop playing...and paying!
FFS, you only have fun in a game if you can have the same things as everyone else? Pure jealousy and greed. If you don't care to group with any of the other players in the game, why do you care where they get to go or what gear they have?
Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.
Ugh, really? Just got put on my Do Not Bother list.
Hmm, right. They didn't manage to bring AoC to the x360 so I have a hard time believing that they'd succeed for The Secret World, looking at the high end graphics and it being an MMO. It certainly won't be on the x360 at launch, if at all.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
iI'm hoping like hell they have open world PVP servers. If they do then I know this game will be exactly what I want. If they don't this game will just be another meh to me.
Although I haven't been following this game, the article and the materials I have seen right now is pretty promising. The skill system is exactly what I would want in a game and the setting is...refreshing. I love orcs, goblins and the like as much as the enxt guy, but this game is a nice change of pace. Kind of reminds me of the Dresden Files. Guns, magic and dark things which go bump in the night. I think I'll start following this one now.
In that it has 7 active skills only to be accessed normaly....not sure what the deal is with that.
Micromanagement of that type is major annoying.
So which means you gets a bunch of skills you can never use.....becasue you have to choose 7 only to be used at a time.....
oh but it has passive skills too.....<_<
Just like DC universe....
Sounds like the game will be ok.....not sure it will be that great though
It's called tactics and is not annoying at all. That kind of thing allows for a kind of class customization within all the skill trees. A role to play. It's guild wars style use of skills, what is wrong with that?
Also, in conjecture to what some guy said earlier that is related, being able to switch roles at anytime does not mean that everyone will pick the same skills/roles; as long as the game is balanced from the perspective of many different skills that will not happen. A type of respeccing is one situation though and games with multiple skill trees that you can pursue without regret(supposedly, eg Ryzom) are another. What they both have in common is that everyone will not be the same as long as there is balance.
I just worry the game will attract conspiracy nuts;
Oh, it does. I'm a moderately active member of the community at darkdemonscrygaia.com, and to me it seems rife with the same sort of delusions as the Deus Ex community.

The pve part of the game (main part) seems really interesting. I look forward to seeing this unfold more. The pvp, however, after reading this article, seems like crap. To be able to jump into a "pvp zone" from anywhere in the world will ruin immersion.

Trust, man. Really....trust. Ragnar Tournquist, the creative director is the King of immersion and story. I truly do not believe that his ideas about PvP are going to be interferring with immersion. Wait until you hear a bit more about the PvP and the "whys" of PvP before writing it off. I can't guarantee anything, but I would indeed be willing to bet cash money on him handling it right. He will see to it that it makes complete sense and doesn't interfere with the storyline or immersion, because that is what he is ALL about.

Delusional people are totally fucking entertaining though.
The very fact that TSW has NOT been touched by Gaute Godager leads me to believe that it'll be better than AO and AoC, and the simple fact that it's Ragnar Tørnquist that's GD'ing TSW has me drooling with anticipation.
That being said, I'll be waiting a couple of months before I pick up TSW, as I know that Funcom has a tendency to send games out the door a tad off-kilter, so to speak.

Final Fantasy 7
Nah... switching rolls can be a great thing. If its anything like switching rolls in DCUO I'm looking forward to it.
Kind of sux, having to sit around and wait to fight, just because you cant find "X" class to get you through.
