Earthrise 1 Month PVP Retrospective

AdunAdun Member UncommonPosts: 70

I posted this on the main ER boards but I don't know if you guys check in there very often, so figured I'd post it here as well. This is just a little video showing what some of the PVP of the first month of the game has been like, in all it's rawness.  Everyone is looking forward to the coming updates to the game to fix some very much needed issues or expand on others, so let's see where the game heads once these things have been added to the plate.

So thanks for taking a look guys, and I hope you enjoy.

The constant bunny hopping is really irritating to watch. Nice landscapes though. The game looks very......empty?

Yuck, that PvP looks really bad. Looks like they have a lot of work to do still.

Can people take cover behind things and fire from high cover locations or is it just all bunny hop around and hope you hit them more than they hit you?

I know it's new game just released but man, that does not look fun to me.

You can do all kinds of tactics, but once two people are within firing range of each other with non-aoe weapons it becomes a bunny hop fest, who can root/stun first, who can get off a critical hit, basically who has the better aim/twitch reactions.

Thankfully Masthead are adding a stamina cost to jumping which will completely eliminate this douche-baggery. Im looking forward to how it will evolve PvP and how people's tactics will change since we've all grown used to it.

Looks just like DF combat, minus the flamethrower, rayguns, and whirlwind spins. If they would just make a "mantle" command, or you only jump up to the level of what you are standing next too..that would be so much better. Sigh..I would be surprised if any DF players thought this combat didn't look AWESOME. Bunnyhopping with Rayguns!!!

Maybe i'm just getting too old for these..who knows.

Planetside was better, how old is that game?

ER looks crap, plays badly and is in an atrocious state still.

Expresso gave me a Hearthstone beta key.....I'm so happy :)

  • TalonsinTalonsin Member EpicPosts: 3,619

Wow, that looks terrible.  You would have thought that would have been addressed in beta.  Hope that fix goes in soon before this gets renamed to "Bunny-Hop Online".

LOL.  Footage like this makes me really really hope Activision takes the CoD engine down the MMO-RPG route (or somebody else with another polished mainstream FPS).  There are years and years of evolution behind FPS's and going back to square 1 on that aspect will just lead to nobody being happy with the mechanics...

I've watched alot of ER pvp videos, I can tell it can get boring pretty fast for me and the bunnyhopping is excessively used.

I recently started playing Planetside again and I'm glad I did, it's still pretty fun and I'm waiting for Planetside: Next.

I think Tabula Rasa's combat system was much better, too bad pvp was so shallow in that game.

Looks like the 4.65 rating is well-deserved. That looks just AWFUL.

And yet theyre still charging $70 in UK, plus a monthly fee. I guess people will buy anything.

Actually, the combat is quite well done.  Only issues are an exploit and some weapon imbalance but one or both will hopefully be addressed in tomorrow's patch.

The game is certainly rough but it's getting there.  MHS is taking the game in the right direction and working with the community to move forward.

Yeah, it was released hella early but in just two or three months this game could really start to come alive.  Don't write it off just yet.

Yea, you might be right. I am hopeful that ER gets it together. I am all for Open World PvP sandboxes. I'd rather play them than polished theme parks. I'm sure they will reduce the jumping nonsense in ER, but that's how it is in DF...thus the comparison. If the combat stays like that in ER, then I would probably give it a pass as well.

Here's hoping they get it right.

Bunny hopping is confirmed to be fixed in the next patch; jumping will now cost Stamina.  New patch has been delayed a day so it'll drop tomorrow.

The combat is nothing like Darkfall. Earthrise's combat is incredibly clunky whereas Darkfall's is extremely smooth. Also, if you jump around like that in Darkfall you will die very, very quickly. Hehehe.

I hope the Earthrise devs can put together a decent combat system soon. Hopefully before territorial warfare is introduced.
