SWG. It were great days. *sigh* Nothing the like we will ever see again, I am afraid.

EDIT: Just for the record, I thought the CU was great. The pre-cu SWG combat was just broken. Period.

What? lol, as compared to...say... what do you think is untruelly the best MMORPG ever made or...what do you think is kind of, sort of, close to the best MMORPG ever made? LMAO

I personally love World of Warcraft, EQ2 (I still have yet to play EQ) and LotRO

    My top 3

SWG (before they screwed it up)

    Anarchy Online

Planetside (before they screwed it up)

For a game with the greatest vision and options for players to try out?

    Ultima Online.

For a game that chose a concept (pvp) and set forth to see what they could do with it?

    Dark Age of Camelot

For a game that shoved players with a fresh install on their computers right into the fun?

    Planetside

Warcraft taught the world what PvE was about, but the price of dumbed down gameplay and a sharp reduction of player options was too great a cost.

After leaving SWG during the CU I went straight to WOW, and it helped me develop a greater understanding of what the genera was all about.  I went back to SWG not long after the launch of the NGE, and truthfully I found the game much more accessible, but what really kept me hooked was the community on my home server.  I have yet to find an online gaming community as memorable as the one I encountered in SWG.  Another thing about the game that still really stands out to me is its diverse gameplay.  For people who didn’t care about combat the game offered a ton of non-combat activities like entertaining, decorating, fishing, sightseeing and a truly complex yet rewarding crafting system.  For players that were interested in high level PVE content there were numerous dungeons and heroic encounters.  PVP be it in space or on the ground was incredible on my server.  The game was nowhere near perfect, and it’s inexcusable what SOE did to its players, but I still love the game none the less.  I truly wish more current games offered the gameplay variety found in SWG.

You think the community wasgreat post NGE... you should have experienced it  Pre-CU / CU...

Really?  Did you really have to nitpick his title that much?  Are you "truly" LYAO?

So uhm.....what?  Is there a point here I'm missing?  It appears to be entertaining. I see a "LMAO," but no....you know.....point.

Is it the OP's question ITSELF that has you confused, or are you just pretending to be confused to be facetious?  I'm not asking these questions to be a smartass, I just don't get what it is that you don't get.....truly.

Oh so YOU are being a smartass.  Well no wonder.  I don't always pick up on that. Gaming is serious business.

    Pre-NGE Star Wars Galaxies

Best resource gathering system, best crafting system, best player driven economy. The crafting and economy i haven't seen in any game since and probably never will looking at recent and future releases.

For a cyberpunk MMORPG, Neocron was the best ever made. That's a fact.

    I gotta go with EQ.

I've been looking for SWG again, wandering around aimlessly to other MMO's with a "why even bother" state of mind (though, I bothered on alot of MMO's haha)... I hope I find you soon my old friend...*looks out the rain soaked window into the unknown, wondering ..* :)

Have to agree the community interaction was probably the best ever in any game ive played. That with the ability to lead huge groups and the ease of helping others grind up their first template were some of the best times ive had on any game. Professions were open and there were never any wrong templates it only mattered what you were using it for. Changing your toon from a swordsmen to a Riflemen was just a few days of relaxed grinding or 1-2 days of hardcore lair smashing lol. Id say hands down though the way they had it so everyone needed someone else made the game epic. Why theres not another game close to this i dont understand. It didnt have a huge playerbase but it had some of the most loyal which have scarred SOE rep ever since the CU and even more the NGE.

I would go with World of Warcraft.

Mission in life: Vanquish all MMORPG.com trolls - especially TESO, WOW and GW2 trolls.

Hands down, Asheron's Call, I am still looking for a game that did what Turbine did, monthly patches every single month?? are you kidding, unique armor found only in AC, unique mobs, found in no other games.  Original Lore, and the best damm loot system of all time.  There was nobody else in the game that had the same armor as you.

    and this was 1999

    still hasnt been replecated

    Definately NOT World of Warcraft!!

Meridian 59, Ultima Online, Everquest back in 1999 were the best MMOS ever made to date.

For me it was DAoC. It had everything I wanted.

    That doesnt make sense..

Just cause the "perfect" MMO hasnt been released yet, does not mean there isn't a "Best ever". Best ever means, of the current selection, which one stands out as, well, the best.

Plus, the "perfect" mmo will never come out, due to the differences in peoples preferences in MMOs. There could already be a perfect mmo, to someone really.

So with that, I think there really is no true "best" MMO since they all can have different types and people play them a different way to others. Theres too many variables :P.

But, since its what do you think, I would probably say EQ, simply because it was the doorway to what we have now, in my opinion anyways :)

    World of Warcraft...

Why? Because since it has been out, 90% of games crash into a steep wall trying to copy it. If it was not the best, other companies wouldn't try to leech off its success.

My favorite however is not WoW. My favorite has yet to be released, but one day, it will come! Who knows under which name, but from the looks of things it wont be TOR. FFXIV was already a deception, all hopes are currently on GW2!

Ive played almost all of them to some extent or another, my top 3.

1 - WoW, when your the biggest kid on the block, everyone wants to challenge you and put you down. Hate on it all you want, god knows i have myself, but Blizzard made one holy hell of a complete package them park mmo. When i first tried that game back at launch i dont think i saw any of my friends family or sunlight for a few months, it was that great.

2 - Eve. if youve read this whole thread then all i can do is rehash what everyone has already said about it. For what it trys to do, it does it almost perfectly.

3 - Planetside (the first year or so, before sony did what they do to there best games) . Without a doubt i have never experienced anything more epic and fun than the massive base assults on a population locked continent as i did in planetside. Although i didnt list it as the best mmo, it was without a doubt my all time favorite online game, period.

For those that played the game, and remember being involved in things like an entire outfit doing a Max Crash run at a base, while syncronizing with fleet of dropships and air support while the tanks roll in, you might get goosebumps visualizing it again. On the flip side defending the base's could be just as heart pounding.  Jumping into a corner wall turret madly firing away at 50 or more targets while your buddy tries to keep you repaired crouched down behind the gun.

Like any game it had lots of issues, but for pure fun factor, and if you were a member of a active outfit, it was the best.

I could go on and on about planetside, but i might start crying :"(

    DAoC for PvP,LOTRO for PvE.

SWG. Pre-NGE and NGE. The community, pvp and the amount of stuff you could do other than combat was great. It may not have been the most polished game but I'd take a few bugs for an enjoyable experience. Played it for 5 years.

There are many MMO's i like but none come close to SWG for me.
