If it is as good as the last DA:O with character development, then I will pick it up based on what you said. I don't want any spoilers, and I just trust that it is good.

Which version is better? The PC or console version?

I am guessing this thread will turn into a bunch of spoilers. :)

Hmmmm this is going to be a big spoiler for those who havent finished Nier's last ending. I have to say ending D in Nier when you sacrifice your existance for your girlfriend's life. As you are doing that the game makes you watch all your work get deleted one by one, every savefile every weapon every quest data every item, every word in your diary. this left me lost in life for a good 12 hours sitting on the couch.

this was just a random thought i had since i've played alot of games in the past and found some character deaths just so depressing that you can't revive them.

as for DA2 the game is pretty good but i suggestion renting it first before buying lol

After thinking through all the bloody and horrific ends met by various characters I could think of only one truly depressing one:

The first time I beat the first colossus in Shadow of the Colossus.

I thought I would feel good about the win, but I quit playing for a month because it made me so sad. The runners up would be every colossus after that as well. It wasn't so bad when I beat the other ones though. Catharsis and all that. It still makes me sad when I play it though.

I'd have to say the death of Pooka and Fygar in Dig Dug.

Dig Dug is honestly one of those games which just revels in its wonton disregard for life.  It's so bad that it gets to the point of basically dehumanizing the characters of Pooka and Fygar, and the manner in which they die is gut-wrenching to watch, both emotionally and in terms of the visceral violence employed in their means of death.

Both of the characters have potent defenses, Pooka being able to travel through walls, and Fygar having the ability to project flames.  However, they're no match for the nemesis they're pitted against.  In Fygar's last moments, he desperately paces a corridor, knowing that his enemy is somewhere around him, unseen.  He uses his flames wildly as a desperate defense, but his foe simply lies in wait until a moment of weakness.  When Fygar's guard eventually falls, the monster bursts through a wall, and using a hand pump, inflates him to death.  He gets larger and larger until he eventually explodes in a shower of gore.

While this is happening, Pooka desperately tries to escape.  The game almost taunts us into thinking Pooka is safe.  He escapes from the underground and begins a desperate flight overland.  Unbeknownst to him, though, the monster has been pursuing him, tunneling through the ground below him at amazing speed.  Moments before he reaches safety, Pooka is also struck by the monster's pump.  Air is forced into his body until his frame gives way, and he too explodes in a sickening display of blood and guts.

Normally, I would dismiss the title as just another shock value piece of trash, but Dig Dug becomes strangely tragic because the game does such a good job of making you feel Pooka and Fygar's desperation, feel the intensity of their struggle as they fight a losing battle to save their own lives.

I guess I can link a video for you.  I'm just warning you that this is extremely graphic stuff.

FF7 crisis core you know zack will die but it's still very depressing when you play the game showing how he lived and meeting aerith and the wussy cloud strife.

When Crono died (Chrono Trigger).  It was more of an impact to me, because I really didn't see it coming. Yes Aeris' death was sad, but I was just shocked and dismayed by Crono's death.

The most depressing death I've ever had in an mmo was surely any charactor of high level dying in EQ with no priest...

The exp hit is devastating - hours of grind, down the drain :(

Honorable Mentions: Aerith from FF7, Chrono from Chrono Trigger

My vote goes to Zoe Castillo from Dreamfall: The Longest Journey. You play her throughout the entire game, overcoming obstacle after obstacle, and then, at the end, just as the mysteries start to unravel, you die. The bad guys seems to have one. Your ex-boyfriend seems to have been zombified. The person you tried to save (April Ryan) seems to be dead. And you were killed by your own mother, no less.

Of course, it wouldn't be quite as depressing if Funcom ever started releasing Dreamfall Chapters...

Delita doesnt die, and theres no proof Ramza dies either.

I consider the sight of Ramza in the ending as a simple ilusion of someone that dont wants to believe he indeed died, and about delita, well the odds are that he died after losing blood from the stabing

Anyway, the ending is tragic enough xD

EDIT: hmm I remember that he delita  was indeed dead...ah I need to recheck my memory
