Skyrim has got me excited and itching to play Oblivion. I played the first hour or so when it came out but didn't stick with it. All I read about it the level scaling and it seems like it would be a total game breaker. I imagine advancing would seem pointless?
Thoughts? I would most likely be playing on ps3 so modding is not an option.
Thanks : )

Real life brings repetition and pointlessness too. The only thing real life offers is Great graphics. Its kinda expensive too and way to dependent on the cash shop. Totally pay to win as well. No thank you. Ill stick to my games.

I didn't like the level scaling at all, forunately I have it for PC and was able to get the mod for it. It's personal preference really, maybe it won't bother you as much.

It's fine. It just makes the world silly at some point when bandits are wearing the best armor.
Anyway if you have the PC edition you can mod it and fix the level scaling to make more sense.
I personally feel that the level scaling does make advancing slightly pointless (Aside from being able to do the Daedric quests), but it's a good game. No, I don't think it was great. Morrowind was great. Daggerfall (aside from all the damned bugs) was great. But Oblivion is good none the less, and I think everyone into sandbox RPG's should give this game a go. If you have it for PC, there's plenty of mods to enhance and/or alter your experience.

It's really fun even so, but really the PC version is leaps and bounds above console simply due to amazing mods. FCOM: Convergence, and Nehrim come to mind. But if PS3 is the way you go, it's still not a bad game by any means.
It is not pointless it just does become a great deal more difficult I enjoyed Morrowind more then oblivion personally although the graphics and mods are great for oblivion, Morrowind has them too in a great deal. I am pro-gameplay over pro graphics, no matter how good the graphics are they wont make up for shoddy game play or a game design/philosophy I dont agree with.
If you haven't played morrowind yet please pick up a copy in a game you can easy spend 100+ hours on one character and more if you are really inclined to do it again, excellent game.
the lvl scaling is not a big issue because once u hit a certain lvl (i forget which) they stop scaling with you and u still progress, i had to put the game on max difficulty because i had gotten so much stronger than everything else, and i hate when a game gets too easy
I couldn't stand the auto-scaling world, so I modded that. It's about the only mod I run, and I love it. Skyrim is looking like it's going to fix all of the things that bothered me in Oblivion as well.
Between GW2 and Skyrim, I might not need to pay for a sub for a very long time.
haha between those two i will prolly never play a sub again =D
What level scaling? Oblivion doesn't...
Oh, your talking about vanilla Oblivion. Get one of the big mods that removes it or makes it "better"...now have fun

Level scaling was definately a poor game design choice in my opinion, but I don't think it was a game breaker.
In fact, by the end of the game I was still so overpowered anyway it wasn't like most battles were really much of an issue. As I recall I built a combo Mage/Assassin and was also essentially running around in full stealth.
But it was pretty lame that your average ruffian in the wild was running in crystal plate/etc, hopefully they don't make that mistake again with Skyrim...
GW2 "built from the ground up with microtransactions in mind"
1) Cash->Gems->Gold->Influence->WvWvWBoosts = PAY2WIN
2) Mystic Chests = Crass in-game cash shop advertisements
It's still fun, even after all these years. I recomend getting the Shivering Isles expansion, the "Game of the year edition" got Shivering and Knights of the nine (long quest). I also enjoyed the Frostcrag spire DLC very much, quite fun to have a good lair compared to the other houses.
It's quite easy if you run at "normal" difficulty so might be a good idea to up it, especially when you make quadruple effect potions and poisions, custom stacking spells, custom enchanted weapons and sigil enchanted armor plus the odd daedra artifact for giggles.
Its not as good as Morrowwind, but still better than 95% of the crap out there.
Yes, it is worth playing.
Obliviions a lot of fun.. its not the best game in the world but its totally worth playing
Remember Old School Ultima Online
The best thing about oblivion is the modding community. Honestly, people are still doling out amazing mods by the day.
Of course a major drawback are the npcs. The ugly-as-sin, bipolar, and somewhat retarded npcs. I think there's a mod for that though, something about zombie invasions.
Its not a bad game but morrowind is far better then oblivion.
Btw if oblivion is becouse of scaling not so good try find MODS that make it good, these games are made for MODS to make them even more intresting to play.
Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009.....

It's a great game, but when you make a mistake you kinda screw yourself over.
For Example.....
I became a vampire..... Now i cant fast travel because when i do its day time so bun to death in a matter of seconds..... T_T I MUST FIND HUMAN FLESH!!!!! but i already sucked everyone in the village dry.... lol
Even if level scales with you, you can crank the difficulty waaay down. I doubt you'd still find anything to complain or fear about the enemies by then.
It's much better with an overhaul mod. When I used to play it I always had "OOO" installed (at least I think it was called like that). It did away with the scaling and added multiple, much harder dungeons and foes with suitable rewards. This made the game much, much more enjoyable and realistic.
My brand new bloggity blog.
Level scaling is not something to worry about, nor was it worth all the complaint it got. I am NOT someone who enjoys a ridiculous challenge (bought Demon's Souls, played for an hour, haven't touched it since) and I had no problems playing Oblivion. If anything, I found it far too easy.
It's a great game, probably one of the greatest of all time (at the moment) so yes, it is worth playing. There are also so many mods for it at this point that you could play it until Skyrim comes out, and even after, and still get a different experience each playthrough.
I don't know what game you thought you were playing, but it wasn't Oblivion. You can fast-travel just fine in the daylight provided you've fed recently and until you rest/pass time, your transformation is fixed in its most current state. Meaning, you could play indefinitely without having to feed, unless you sleep. You also can't 'suck people dry.'
"Forums aren't for intelligent discussion; they're for blow-hards with unwavering opinions."
Lol? It was a joke. unfortunately my xbox deleted my saved file and left me with an autosave which it saved in broad daylight after i did a fast travel to the imperial prison so therefore i instantly die in a matter of seconds. SO NOW IM PLAYING RUN TO THE DOOR OR BURST INTO FLAMES!!!!!!! *POOF*

I play Oblivion completely ramdisked (Entire Game is loaded into System Memory) allowing for a reduction of loading times by 90 - 95%. Also the Sliders in the UI at max are only Half the Maximum Settings you can write in the Configuration files yourself. Oblivion is ok if you want to try out different things here and there....I played the game for a long time and currently run SLI systems for the game.
The level scaling is ridiculous, but what is worse are the players who set the difficulty to nothing and then complain about the game being too easy....
How do you know players set gamemode to easy and then complain game is easy?
Oblivion is as was morrowind a very good game if you install right mods these games need to be played with mods from mod community and there are some awesome mods out there.
Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009.....

Btw its rather nice seeing this game pop up from time to time and many still play it after so many years and mod community still make mods for Oblivion even for Morrowind, Elder scrolls serie is special

OP...if you have the Xbox version and can't mod the game there are a couple of work-arounds for the level scaling. The simplest is to pick the skills you use the most when you create your character and just stay at level one.
This means you can't sleep. If you want to do the Dark Brotherhood you need to sleep twice...after your first murder and again after your first DB kill. You can do this all at level one before you earn enough skills to level up.
Once you do this...stay at level one and don't sleep...ever. It works.
