WOW was never created. would mmos still be the way they were in the befor time? or would mmo games be dead after awhile.

think if WOW was never created what wouldi t be like. would alot mmo games and companys still be around?

*no easyer answers like oh a game like wow would come out and that game would be wow*

really think about it.   how would the culture of mmorpg games be? the same like it was in the befor time or would it change in another way

your thoughts?

for me DAOC would still be big and AO would still be busy also.AC 2 would still be around and alot of games would still have newer ideas.

i have been playing mmo games since 1999*late* early 2000. i am 24 know*random fact lol*

There would be so many amazing sandbox games your head would explode. Hehe, i kid. But in all honesty id say we would have more mainstream sandboxes than we do now. Simply because the focus would still be on creating a virtual world rather than an online action game.

i will aggree with you on that. but i dont think it would be main stream thou. when i played mmo games it seemed like a small culture of people.*at that time i was 14 yearls old* it was super rare to see someone my age lol.

it was a little secret*mmo games* between people. not many people knew about it and you would only tell a small few lol. thats how i felt it was at least.

until i found mmorpg.com in 04 it opened up some thinbgs for me at least.

i think mmo games would be still a little secret

If Blizzard hadn't invented WoW then someone else would have instead. The idea of having a persistent online game is pretty powerful so I think it would have inevitably reached the gaming mainstream by now.

Well...MMOs would take longer to reach the popularity they are at right now....I mean, come on...do any of you really think MMOs would be this popular without the help of WoW?

I mean I didn't start playing MMOs until WoW was already 4 years old...No, WoW was not my first MMO, and no I have never played WoW (tried it for like an hour but didn't like it)...but I dont think a lot of these other games that I have played would have gotten such mainstream exposure if it weren't for WoW's success.

    ...but...

With the increasing popularity of online play on both consoles and PC a more "casual" and "solo friendly" MMO, something that would be more appealing to the mainstream and "not so hardcore" gamer, would be bound to be developed.

Actually, if WoW was never created I truely believe we wouldn't have seen an MMO that successful until like 2009 or somethin...

    PLAYING: NOTHING!!!
PLAYED:FFXI, LotRO, AoC, WAR, DDO, Megaten, Wurm, Rohan, Mabinogi, RoM

    WAITING FOR: Dust 514

Had WoW never been invented, I think its place in the annals of gaming history would have been taken by another big I.P. game.  Most of the early adopters of WoW didn't play it because it was an MMO, they played it because it was Warcraft.

The world would be a much better place if WoW never happened.

    Some pretty wild ideas here.

AC2 would still be around?  Really?  You think people would've opted for AC2 over EQ2?!

People are gonna glob in whatever the perceived best MMORPG at the time is (factoring in the social weight of game populations.)  Neither AO nor AC2 were going to survive in the same landscape as EQ2.

From what I gather, SWG's updates which were meant to draw in subs from WoW would never have happenned and we'd all be playing SWG now.

    If WoW didn't happen...

MMORPGs wouldn't be half as popular as they are now. There would be much more variety of them with more niches filled. F2P model may have caught on sooner and had more success.

I agree, though, there would inevitably a mainstream MMORPGs or EQ2 be turned into be more mainstreamed that would draw in a lot of new gamers. But I doubt that EQ2 or any other would have drawn in the numbers like WoW did. Generally, the number of subscribers would be spread out and there would be fewer failed MMOs. There would also probably be fewer MMORPGs but more MMOs.

There may have been a SWG2 or revamped one and there may not have been a SWTOR soon on the way.
