Playing Eve is always a choice until DF gets it big update in couple months time that's changing lighting system where they'll be shadows to hide in you can't turn off, new UI, new character models and animations, new environmental sound system, redoing the world, dx11 support coming, an armour system that will put an end to uber pvp jack of all trades. Right now DF a bit rough around the edges in a typical indie kinda way, but if don't mind that and want get taste and start a character for the new era of DF that will change how the game is played then by all means do the 10 day trail. Right now because of DF second birthday you can buy the client pretty cheap too if you like the trial. There is a a lot fun to be had joining a community within the game and the game does have a good foundation on which to build on.
I am doing the DF trial now... However its kinda rough :P
Will I loose my character/have to rebuy the game when DF relaunches?
No, you will not lose your character. The "relaunch" they are talking about is just going to be a promotional deal to try and draw new players to the game. It will coincide with the launch of a big expansion to the game. I believe the expansion will also be free to existing players.
Darkfall is pretty much dead. Has very little players and the developers have proven themselves over the years to be incompetant. Even if you start out liking the game you'll eventually grow to hate it because of all of the issues it has that could seemingly be fixed by a competant dev team but Aventurine is totally incapable of handling.
Save yourself the frustration and avoid Darkfall like the plague. It's nothing but a never ending grind anyway with zero content, it's a sandbox with no sand. Eve is the better game in every conceivable level.
You just have to ask yourself which you like better as they are totally diffeent types of games. Both are open world, Eve has a larger population which is where DF has struggled. I will say that this is a good time for DF, it does seem to be picking up...be sure to go on the NA server. Once that TIA alliance disbands, the game will really be in good shape, at present their zerg does kind of make the game boring. With the increased xp, Darkfall is going in a great direction. Theres some good clans to get into early on as well, thats really important. Check these out:
1. Incognito accepts new people and is big on getting them on their feet. Decent in pvp, nice holdings...very nice group. Very heavy in politics (SG - Balin Goldhelm or Fornicator Forn)
2. NME has some seasoned vets, very much out of the loop on politics, basically do their own thing. So good clan, but kind of, :"out of the game" (SG - Papa Smurf)
3. New, not sure whats happened with this clan...just before the TIA domination...new was destroyed by multiples on the server as it had gone corrupt...believe a guy has tried to relaunch it but it hasn't taken off. (SG - not sure...all noobs here...which is a problem but they'll accept you)
4. The Imperial Army, this is the TIA zerg...they pretty much take anyone...while they don't see close with one another, having multiple holdings allows them to have easy leveling in their own cities. I do think they will be disbanding though...lots of internal issues. (SG - King Zaraki or Skreww L00se)
5. Dominion has been around for some time now...total prick leader, but the rest of the clan is good to go and has a nice holding. (SG - Fspy Zuhandler, he'llhand you off ot someone else...not sure who)
I'd suggest looking at these guys...talk to all their SG's as its a good starting point to learning the game.

Damn its a tough choice. Playing DF atm. Seems quite fun, however a bit hard to learn.
EVE and Darkfall are easily the best games I've played in the genre. I am often subbed to both at the same time. You should check out the Darkfall accelerated character development videos made by Val Roth. They are incredibly helpful to new players, and really aid to speed up the learning process.
Important tip: never equip or bring items with you that you are not willing to lose. Bank often and don't worry if you get killed early on, any equipment you are going to get at this stage is easily replaceable.
Have fun, and welcome to Agon.
EDIT: no, Darkfall is not dead.

Really dont know which on them I should stick too. Sounds like Eve is the most secure game to go back to while DF sounds like it could do in a couple of months.
In Short EVE is a great game in regards to the fact the Universe presented feels very "real". Everything works, though personally I stopped playing because
A) I would never be able to catch up to players that started before me no matter how much better I may be than them.
Combat is boring
Play Darkfall for:
- FPS type combat
- Best PVP around in regards to skill due to FPS style
- Player seiges can be amazing
- Atmosphere
Darkfall is an amazing game in regards to the controls and concepts behind the game. FPS type combat and full loot are in my opinion the right direction for next-genration MMORPGs to take. I am so sick of MMO's offering little to no risk... or challenge. I crave for an MMO to challenge me, and Darkfall does that. There are some huge issues however and I feel Darkfall is a mere step in the right direction. Not a stride.
A) Character developement while at first was fine durring launch has gradually become very taxing because people have exploited the system beyond repair. The time is takes to create a PVP viable character and to get to the bread and butter aspect of the game is extremely long and mind-numbling boring.
Lack of meaningful content beyond PVP
C) Only one playstyle viable. No variation in characters... or very little anyways. In a sense it's a one class game.
D) Not enough dynamic content in regards to player cities and so on.
In the end you play Darkfall for the PVP and social aspect of the game. You need friends to survive. However because of the huge grind for new players few stick it out... oh and lets not forget the crafting system / economy is fucked beyond repair. Crafters will not like this game.
I find Darkfall pretty funny still... But the graphic is killing some fun.
Because in the end it's yet another tab target no skill involved game. I know positioning might matter but in my opinion if you're not manually aiming and firing AKA FPS or TPS then it's a no skill game.
I personally find Darkfall beautiful. I love the graphics.

I play and love both, but having fps targeting for a game in which you are flying massive space ships makes no sense whatsoever. The 'skill' involved in EVE is more down to planning and execution then down to aiming.
I'ts all subjective I guess, I'm just glad both games are out there in a sea of themepark detritus.
Oh and I like the DF graphics to, not sure why so many dislike them.
"Come and have a look at what you could have won."
Skills which you can only learn through time, not use. Add onto that fact that not all EVE skills are used towards PVP in some fashion and you have yes more skills. What is your point with skills amount? That doesn't make it so players require more player skill. Hell because of the time based learning EVE has Darkfall at least wins in regards to the fact the more you play the better you get.
I still think that the biggest problem of Darkfall nowadays is the low population... it would be a completely different game if that could improve.
So... I decided not to continue with Darkfall and resubbed to EvE.
Agreed, much of the fun in Darkfall is based upon player interactions and clan affairs... low population means less of both of those and what is left now in Dakrfall is a handful of clans fighting over too many player holdings. There is no struggle anymore clan wise. I remember on EU launch the scramble there was for a holding. I also remember needing a 40+ man active clan to even hold the most worthless of holdings on the map because there were so many people / clans wanting one.
The dwendling of people in Darkfall has ruined both the fun and gameplay. New clans coming into Darkfall not only face a HUGE grind to catch up to those who started before them... but they also face the fact that while they level those few clans with most of the holding will be collecting and storing rare resources and equipement the entire time making it nearly impossible for a new clan to ever take control of a holding without help from others who have been hording as well. New clans in Darkfall are now only possible if they are a few members of another clan splitting off.

The two games are nothing alike.

Im an european player...
Well, I heard both that DF is dead and Alive by so many different players...
Whenever "zergs" fall, the game gets boring and starts to feel empty again. That is how it always was back in the day when I used to play.

Only bad thing atm is the extremely ugly graphics
Really dont know which on them I should stick too. Sounds like Eve is the most secure game to go back to while DF sounds like it could do in a couple of months.
The answer is simple.
Play EVE for:
- Atmosphere
- Sense of an actual universe
- Functioning Economy

Well Ive read your thread now...
I dont know man. How can you see how many is online?
I also fear a little pop is too low. A shame cus this game feels fun.
But I already joined a guild with many players online.
