Rift unfortunately has less pvp that even WoW....

They said before release their intent was to have a content update once a month.  This first one not only drops in new stuff, but advances the storyline.  This also holds true to their committment to the lore.

I dont consider this as a content update as its only an event that runs a week and not a permanent thing.

"The battle for Telara intensifies as world-changing invasions from the Plane of Death engulf the planet, giving Ascended heroes a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity "

Not saying this is not going to be a fun event, but far from being a true content update. Again, this is an attempt to keep people in for at least another month as the event starts Mar 30th and runs through the subscription due date of April 1st and ends mid next week. They even had to throw in there plug at the end of the article....

"The Founder’s Pricing plan for RIFT has been extended until March 31st. Details for all plans are available at www.riftgame.com/subscriptions."

From a buisiness persepective, thats cunning and very smart.

So a new permanent raid zone/instance is not a permanent thing?  That is a weird viewpoint.

My god has horns.... nah, I don't think he is real either.

Opps. I meant to say " I dont consider this as a content update ""excluding the 20 man raid""..."

But even then, only one level 20 raid added for the level 50s... Besides, like I said in a previous post before the type of mmo combat is to common in the genre today.  1,1,2,1,2,5,2,1,1, dead.  Rinse and repeat on next mob. So yes, most who are leaving are not seeing much of a change from other mmo combat mechanics. You can have a ton of content but if the mechanics are the same as everyone else then why keep playing. This little update and event is trion saying..."Please stay".

With all my doubts, I went ahead and bought Rift 2 weeks ago. Yes it s a typical themepark MMO, but they do things so well, profesional, and just right it seems to me. An event this early in the games life is great news. My wife and I just paid for 6 month founders, and are happy as hell we did. They are going to finally be the developer that gets things right IMO. Kudos Trion, for making and maintaining a great product. Can t wait to see what the future brings.

But even then nothing.  What I said was true and this event is for everyone.  It is also advancing the storyline.  You fall back on it's mechanics, when if you think that people can just faceroll their keyboard in experts - you got another thing coming.

If you don't know your rotations, you will fail.  And your rotations change based on the encounter and souls you will NEED to switch out of for each fight.

You sound like you're just making excuses now to bring your point across that you think Trion is putting this out here like a stunt.  The truth is they've had this plan for a long while which is what's my point.

They are incorporating their content release to their story.  That's important to me and I appreciate it.

Their timing is pretty smart, I'll give you that.  I don't think they're begging people to stay.  I think they are planning on giving people value for their buck.  That's the point.

and you're wrong about this too...

    FROM HARTSMAN VIA ZAM:

Since this is wrapped into a general major update for us, the first major update, there is just the general content addition to the game that we do all the time in addition to the event-specific stuff. The reason we wanted to call out the fact that there are a ton of items in addition to the special ones is our game tracks discoveries; who discovers what and who's the first to see something. Even if you weren't the bleeding edge on launch day and weren't one of the first to 50, it's cool because there are still ways to get discoveries. We're going to keep introducing stuff all the way up and down the level range. It's a fun little surprise when you get the notification that you were the first to find something. “Really? Sweet! I'm level 20 and I discovered something!” That's pretty neat.

The cosmetic items either drop from events or you can get tokens to buy them. Even later on in the game, my suspicion is they would become ultra rares so you won't fully miss out on them. If you really want a great chance at them, being there for the event is clearly the best way to do it.

Seriously? You met to say "excluding the 20man raid" ? Isn't that the main drawpoint for this event? And yes, it is actually content.. And whens the last time you heard of a MMO companie releasing content + doing events like this after the first month of release? I bet you're a cups half empty type of guy, looking at this as some sort of conspiracy to keep players into staying.. Me, I guess i'am a cup half full.. I consider it something Trion want's to give its players that are supporting it at launch.

No need ot get hostile. I am not saying this is a fact of what they are doing but my opinion of what I think they are doing. I have played rift since beta 1 and is currently still playing, but I remember at release and into the first 2 weeks there were queues even after the new servers were established. Now the two servers I play on have no queues. It only seems to hint that the player base has significantly dropped. So from a maketing stand point, in order to keep players who are thinking about leaving...add the event and some content on the week of when preorders subs expire. But from what I read the content wouldnt hold you for a month. Again thats my opinion and everyone is entitled to one. If you want to continue to play the game, thats Great!

Hostile? lol good one one trying to make me seem like a rabid fanboy.. Then again, i didn't say one thing "hostile" in my whole post.. Either way, it's good that you are now refering to the new patch as "content" because thats exactly what it is, and that's what my point was.. Trion is indeed adding new content to this patch, something you didn't agree on with you're first post but certainly do now.. Weather it's gonna hold people to sub or not is another questions all together, i think if you're enjoying Rift you'll stay, if you arn't then the new update isn't gonna matter much to you in the first place..

And ques depend on what server you're on.. For my server (braircliff) i didn't have ques for 2 weekends straight, then last weekend we had ques fri+sat for 10-20+mins almost all night.. If you go by that logic then Rift is indeed "growing", but honestly useing que's to base a whole games population (or even a servers) is illogical.. Dosn't work like that, at all lol.. But, i expect Rifts population will indeed drop and even out as all MMO's do after launch.

Forgive me for thinking it was hostile. It was the statement of "I bet you're a cups half empty type of guy " that seemed offensive. But if it wasnt meant in that manner I do apoligize.

As far as agreeing about calling it content now, when I first read that little blurb that rift posted and that the OP has pasted, the way its worded is a bit vague and somewhat confusing. It wasnt until someone posted (page 3 I believe) the link to zam.com that had the developer going a bit more into detail. It certainly cant hurt to put more content in whether it was planned to keep people or just planned. I can only hope they roll out updates on a frequent basis that make the game more fun. Personally in my opinion, as the game is beautiful and polished the PvE is lacking in the quest sector as it all seems to be kill 10 and fetch 10 of these type quests. Also the PvP needs some major work as its very unbalanced. I guess we will just have to see how these go as time goes on.

I've always loved things like that UNTIL they start hoggin' my bank space. Sounds fun for now though. :)
