Originally posted by Rednecksith Huh, didn't take long for the CCP Fanboy BrigadeTM to jump on this one. The UI is a clunky, unwieldy nightmare. It is not the least bit intuitive, and looks absolutely terrible. You know why some people refer to EVE as a 'spreadsheet in space'? The look and feel of the UI is a big part of that. The learning curve for the game can already be steep, struggling with a non-intuitive UI shouldn't be a part of that. Granted, it's functional once you get used to it, but it could be done so much better.

UI is constantly being upgraded, lastly with Incursion expansion.
Unless you truly intend to troll only, you specify in your question what part of the UI you are looking forward to be improved because UI is a very broad term.

if people are going to criticise something then they really need to specify what it is exactly their complaining about.. at least if they want anyone to take them seriously.. even now i have no idea what it is that they are complaining about.. other than its something to do with the UI.. which is singularly uninformative.. so unless they can add some detail about what their problem really is.. then how are we going to know its not a troll.. its no different to posting a review of a game.. where the only details are.. i dont like this game.. no reasons.. no explanation of why... just a typical flame bait posting..
Look, when CCP decides to put out an updated UI for EvE, then they will push it out. Until then, all the complaining and whining about a change in this mechanic of the game or this mechanic of the game is pointless. if they are or are not going to update the UI system or any other mechanics of the game is totoal speculation at this time.
As to the OP, that is a good question and only time will tell.
Is the player base of EvE going to complain? Yes, everyone and I mean everyone complains about change in one fashion or another. I am one that complains about something everyday, if I didn't then there is something wrong with me
Is that change going to be accepted? Yes and no. Just remember that you can't please everyone all of the time, that is just human nature. Some people accept change better than others and then you have some that threaten to quit the game if they (the Dev's) implement a change.
Is the change going to break the game? I hope not, that is why CCP has test servers and a player base that loves the challenge of "breaking in" new things and helping develop new ideas prior to being release for use as a part of the regular game.
Are there somethings that can or need to be fixed in EvE? Yes there are things that need to be fixed in game, and there are the game developers that are working on it (I hope) to make the game better for everyone.
I say give the game some time and lets see where the game developers take us...
Didn't they mention in the keynote at Fanfest that they were working on doing a UI similar to what their video's have had? Nothing more than a "we're working on it", but I'm pretty sure they said that. heh
CCP seems to think there's something wrong, otherwise they wouldn't have hired someone to specifically work on the UI upgrade and nothing else.
To that end, I would think that any development company aspiring to advance their product would always see that there is room for improvement. The UI being the "window" into the game as it were, is a high profile item so it makes sense to hire someone for it. That said, and more in response to the OP, the main changes that I have notices are menu items being moved around a bit and minor cosmetic changes that don't really make it look any less like EvE. If you logged in right now, you would still recognize it and likely still be disappointed if you didn't like it.

Most of the stuff that I think CCP doesn't like about the UI is more the backend of it then anything in particular. Its less about the looks or functionality then it is about the fact that the UI is based on almost 10 year-old code that wasn't designed to be modular or really to be expanded.
I've been playing eve since day one back when asteroids were gray speckled oddly shaped boxes and warp drive blew your eardrums out, not to mention you could stack multiple afterburners and get battleships going 27km/s trust me OP if your trying to flame the UI now i dont even want to hear about it cus the hundreds of UI changes eve has gone through over the years would make you rage quit, to answer your question the developers will most definetly release numerous upgrades in graphical and functional parts of the game to cope with the upcoming first /third person walking systems in Dust and in the eve-online game itself, the spread sheet in space comment makes you sound like idiots as well. If you truly have played the game into any amount of depth you would know the only truly flat spreadsheet like interface is the market/contract trading system. Fly the pipe in a battleship during the weekend by yourself 27 jumps through 0.0 and survive without warp stabs and then come tell me the game is a spread sheet in space.
Enjoy the UI because trust me it could be so much worse, on a side note if you knew what you were doing like i said earlier you would use hot keys instead of pressing the UI buttons so your attempted trolling is null and void good game and good night.

Looking for that next MMO

Yea, if that's the only game you know, then go with it.

It's a few months old, but if you haven't seen the following link, then it at least shows in idea of where the UI is headed: http://www.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=831
