sorry to double post, but here is a hint of what you might be playing...
MMORPG.com:
How will you handle the many Space Marine Chapters in the game? Will there be some form of customization for players?
Tim Campbell:
All I can say for now is that the chapter that we are focusing on for our base playable Space Marine is the Black Templars. There are many reasons for choosing this particular chapter that will be revealed over time. As for what other Space Marine chapters will make an appearance in DMO, we’ll keep you posted, but it’s safe to presume that there will be some sort of customization option for players, after all this is an MMO we’re talking about!
Also I am willing to bet that Nids will not be a playable race, but you never know.
This game has such potential if they build in some kind of crazy customization system for the factions.
For Example. You can play Imperium...but....you can customize your character to an inner faction.
Also, rumors point to a two faction game..
It would sertainly be fun to play one, but I don't see how it can be made possible without adding a third faction.. I don't think the Tyranids would ever ally with another race.. they'd probably all out zerg any other race currently on the same planet. Same goes for Necrons, which are my favourites, and I'd be screaming like a girl if I could play one... sadly, they don't fit as a playable race either..

Hey Rax,
At least Necrons are getting some new models soon....
I want to see Table top WH40k made into multiplayer screaming 3D technicolor and not some lame themepark rip off sharing nothing in common with the source material except art style and name.
I'd rather have a faithful repo of the table top game as something non-mmo and the mmo to have all the flavor of the 4ok universe. As for themepark stuff, meh, I spend points and play a mission on a card most the time. Although I'd like to see each race as a faction, with the ability to side with certain races on a limited basis. But that would be to cumbersome probably. But yeah, please don't let them poo on the Ip too much.
1. Lore fluff: I want ALL the flavor text goodness thats been written since Rogue Trader dropped in game. Thats the kinda stuff that fires the imagination and creates immersion.
2. Details, details, details: When an engagement takes longer than expected, i wanna sweat running out of ammo. When I run into Tyranids I want the howling, clattering horde to be terrifying. I want to be awestruck when I see a titan smash the enemies front line for the first time.
3. DEVELOPERS!: Every game has devs, I want Vigil to employ DEVELOPERS! People with brains and passion and not just corporate shills phoning it in.
Also I am willing to bet that Nids will not be a playable race, but you never know.

Hey Rax,
At least Necrons are getting some new models soon....
Really? Was a long time ago since I played the game or painted models etc.. but are there any links to sites displaying these models?
New stuff from GW means they absolutely want it in the game.. so hopefully we at least get to see necrons as NPCs!

Agreed.. Tyranids and Necrons are some of the most interesting races and to not have them in the game would be... bad, to say the least.

Hmm, I must be missing something then. I am pretty new to war40k lore, but from what I've seen Necrons are just robo zombies and Tyranids are your classic space bug. What about them do you find interesting? Could you suggest some good reading?

Trust me.. they're both the most badass races in 40k.. but unless you want to buy the codex's, you can read up on them quite well over at the WH40K Lexicanum.
Id like to see a crafting system that is robust, fun and profitable. Each race's interface for the crafting should suit the flavor of that particiular race.
For orks, guns should require crafting bits like, leather straps, red paint, hummie gun bits and so forth.
i hope they read the book ,to get the proper mood at proper time ,etc!the book serie is insanelly good!so if they paid attention to the book and the people working on this game just dont go oh lets do it the wow way,it might actually be a big surprise, but for some reason everybody that touch warhammer have a hard time getting the mood right getting to flow of the game play right
i mean come on read the dam book!if a person is working on this game and havent read the book they might as well shelf it already!
IT will be a flop in that case!there are ton of surprise attack invasion etc i mean it is hard to explain it all the content is too rich someone have to read the book to understand why people see so much potential in warhammer.
but if past is any indication, they probably havent read one line of book so it will probably fail!
Wot I wan' is a righ' an' propa WAAAGH! where I can pick up the nearest an' bigges' choppy thin' an' go an' knock sum teef ou' o' 'em Marine boyz like any good ORK in a WAAAGH! would wan' 'o do. LET'S GO STOMP SOME HUMIES!
Now really. Aside from ORKS, I want gameplay that is FUN, first and foremost, and refreshing. Free for all pandemonium would be third on my list, but that's just not going to happen... at least on release.
If THQ's track record with DoW 1 and 2 are any indication, even though it was Relic making them, and not Vigil, there'll be plenty of character customization via wargear, which is nice.
Ultimately, what I want is to stomp some humies with a big, hulking and nightmarishly ugly Nob and have tons of fun doing it.
I was reading the Rift review, and they've got a point about leveling - Once you level one character, You've pretty much seen all the content for that faction. Other then experiencing how a caster or warrior class plays, theres no reason to replay.
I'd like multiple paths to take while leveling. Rather then going here and doing that, I'd love to go here and do this instead. Ya follow me? Age of Conan did that right - although it had 3 predominant zones, I could go through Conalls Valley, Poitan, or whatever was in Stygia (hated stygians.) And occaisionlly quests would branch out taking you into these new areas. Bottom line is, I guess I want some diversity in my game experience. I don't want to be able to see all the game content for one faction in one playthrough.
Needing is Wanting... Wanting is Coveting... Coveting is Sinning... I am SO going to Hell.
From a gameplay perspective, I would love to see very shallow vertical progression with TONS of horizontal progression. Having too many levels/career paths/skill points before the cap stratifies the population and makes zones that are scaled to low levels empty as the game ages. A new space marine should be able to stand toe to toe with a vet thats been playing the game for a year and at least have SOME chance of winning, a bolter is a bolter after all, still fires the same mass reactive ammo regardless of whose toting it into battle.
Should Vigil choose to have a higher vertical progression mechanic, then zone/world design needs to be done in such a way that every 'tier' of content can be found in every zone/world. Designing beautiful zones just to make them empty ghosttowns after the core population 'out levels' them is a waste and a shame. Many games have shown that this is just depressing and discourages new players when they are the only ones running around in their part of the world. For example, I started a Nelf on day 1 of WoW and Teldrassil was NEVER as alive and cool as it was in the first 2 or 3 weeks after launch. Same can be said with Warhammer. Anyone that played WAR at release will tell you that the public quest system was the coolest thing they'd ever seen so long as there were bodies to really make it shine. Many original players of WAR levelled their first characters on JUST public quests alone, they were that much fun with population.

Yup agree with a lot of this.
Also agree with the post that in a lot of mmos, you do one level progression and you've done them all for that faction ie really x classes becomes 2 classes... in 2 faction game.
Personally I really liked Tau. They are newer, more positive and vibrant civilzation than the burnt dreams of the Imperium and a suitable bright new light against the most ancient darkness of the Necron. ^ ^ : For The Greater Good.
I wish this game was less a single-character RPG, and more of a squad based RPG.
You customize your leader (and can optionally cusomize your units later) and you move as one cohesive unit. You play as the leader of a squad, and as you and your squad level up, you get more units, which can be specialized just like the Tabletop game, can customize the gear, gain new items for the Liutenant, and general items for all the troops.
Parties would be several squads working together, and raids would look like be the utterly innumerable oceans of soldiers from all of the grand space opera artwork.
I assume it's going to be a single character rpg (where you create and play as a single character), unfortunately.
----
However, the only thing that would make me happy and content would be :
Playable Necrons.
Also, I want me some C'tan up in here. Watch them feasting on the death agonies of the fleshy mortal races would be the best thing ever.

I like this idea, but I think that Vigil's on the right track with micro (single player) development and should leave the macro (squad level) development to Relic. Dawn of War III: The MMO anyone?
I personally would have liked a mmorts instead but I'm still excited about 40k mmo. I would hope they make the game a mission based game instead of a laundry list of tasks to do. This game is about war not go collecting 5 rabbit tails.
I really hope the imperium just sticks with the imperial guard and space marines and the other factiosn can work together and fight each other accordingly because thats how its worked in all of the RTS and stories.
I am also hoping that settlements can be destroyed and rebuilt on and off of planets so that other armies can move into areas and establish footholds.
For the combat i really hope its not point and click and it will be third person shooter sort of like how red dead redemption was.
I'd also like to see this game having no classes and by that i mean the player being able to weild any weapon or wearing any armor but having to set "builds" accordingly to the weapons and armor. I also hope theres a bunch of planets and vehicles. I would also like to see the universe shape up like it did in the books and all through out the series and hopefully letting the player take part in the Wars and helping to decicide the outcome. I also really hope they have space battles as well. Lastly i really hope the crafting is similar to that of Star War Galixies where the players craft everything. I am also hoping the players can have homes or instant apartments in slum areas and etc.
Either way though im really excited for this game, ever sense i was 12 and playing the RTS Dawn of War I had always hopes there would be a MMO for it.

I like this idea too, maybe something akin to WAR's public quests, but zone wide instead of tied to specific locals within a zone. They could be contested (pvp) or uncontested (pve) and would come to you over 'vox' as soon as you entered the zone. Have them on a separate 'frequency' so you could partake if you wanted or just go about your business. This would basically give the player the option of opting in whenever they entered the zone. This wouldn't preclude the possibility of conventional quest mechanics, but be in addition to it.
